Maybe, although when you click on the link for a description of "tower room," it says you'll have either a MK or bay view. I think that means they aren't necessarily assuming that enough people will pay for MK view to fill all the MK rooms, so you'll still have a shot even if you don't pay the extra. In other words, it will just become harder to get one when you reserve a standard tower room.

It will be interesting to see who will be willing to pay $40/night extra. This could end up falling apart for them. To be quite honest I love having a MK view but for $40??? That adds up! This will end up being a free upgrade for people who paid bayview.

Seems like it's all found money for them. They increased the price of the standard tower rooms over last year, so if they can get just 20 percent of the people to pay the extra $40 for a guaranteed MK view, they've done ok. I guess their view is that enough people have been requesting MK views that it's important enough for people to pay for it -- so just as the GF (for example) has standard garden view and lagoon view, now so does the contemporary tower.

i have always wondered why they did not offer that option for a little more. i think many people will take advantage of the guaranteed MK view- i know i would have. it would be worth the extra $ for us to know we will have the view. right now we just have our fingers crossed that we will

I agree with MumTo2Princesses -- we'd pay the extra money just to be assured of the MK view. At the Poly we paid the extra to guarantee the lagoon view. I would have thought the CR would have done the same thing sooner.

The south wing is NOT closed (yes they are putting people in the building while being rennovated, which shocked me). We just returned last night and stayed in the so. wing building for 7 nights. See my post above. Glad to see that there was some pixie dust for some of our disboard members. But none for me. :guilty:

Does anyone know whether these open rooms in the south wing are all newly renovated rooms or are they ones that they have not begun renovations on yet?

The latter, I'm afraid. They have laid down new carpet in the hallway, however.

Hi - we're going June 2006 and paid the extra to have the MK view. I figured it was worth it for my girls to see the castle change colors while they went to sleep!

We had booked a garden room and were upgraded to the tower facing the castle. It was wonderful. We watched the fireworks from our balcony most nights. I was so excited and happy. The room was great. We had no problems at all.

the 2 standard rooms we had in the south wing last week were still decorated in the old way (sort of looks like someone blew up a clown--colors everywhere). The only new thing was the hallway carpet and even that had some issues. This was not a great trip for us regarding our accommodations, but since we had a discounted room, I guess we got what we paid for. Had we paid full price, we would have been more vocal than we were. The day we didn't have hotwater, we were very vocal at the front desk. It's sad when you stay at a delux resort and don't have enough hot water to heat up a baby bottle. Thank goodness for the coffee pot (we used it to get hot water).

When was this?

I am in the process of booking my trip through the Disneyworld website and I have selected a tower room with magic kingdom view in contemporary and it is actually more expensive than staying at Grand Floridian. Is it worth it? I have never stayed at either resort before.

Has anyone stayed there since it has been moved to the 10th floor? We are scheduled for 10-29 through 11-6. Our first family trip and first stay at the Contemporary. :cool1:   :cool1:

Thanks

We just got back last night from a sixteen day trip, and we spent the last five nights doing the Atrium club 10th floor concierge. (The Beach Club also sprinkled pixie dust our way and upgraded our five nights there from a standard room to full concierge. Woohoo!!!)

Yes, we did have a renovated room. The room itself is absolutely gorgeous. The pictures posted on Allearsnet.com do justice. The room itself looks just like it's shown in the pics. The MK view we got was spectacular, and the staff was wonderful.

Just a heads up to people though; it was our opinion that the new rooms are a complete triumph of style over functionality. The sinks look great, but for example, they don't drain well at all so there's plenty of razor stubble left in them until housekeeping comes unless you take the time to clean them out yourself. The bedspreads were pure white, so it was difficult to read a newspaper on the bed without leaving some print ink on the new bedspreads. The inwall LCD TV only gets 13 stations, with none of the resort-only promo channels that are fun to look at while you're staying there. I imagine that this will improve once the entire hotel is finished and a full cable hookup is made. In addition, because it's an HD-capable TV receiving analog signals only, the stations actually look worse on them. Again, once Disney upgrades to HDTV in full, this won't be an issue, but it was for now.

Would we stay again there? Absolutely!!! The convenience of the Contemporary can't be beat, and the staff was nothing short of wonderful. We'll be curious to see if the rooms are a "work in progress", and if other people find things the same way we did.

While we were there, the ninth floor was sealed off and under construction. We never heard any noise from that, although it was rather easy to hear Chef Mickeys even from the tenth floor. We learned not to expect sleep after 7:30 or so in the morning. But who goes to Disney to sleep, right?

We're so sad to be back home! Fire away with any questions!

I TA! Having a castle view was VERY important to me for this trip so I picked CR over GF (we had Poly last time and LOVED it but wanted a different resort). Knowing I could pay for the view will save me the ulcer of "hoping" to get it, I have time to save so the price is not the issue (it works out that I need to save about 50 cents as day :rotfl: ).

I just loved looking as the castle changing colors at night, it puts you right in the magic!

We will be at the 10th Floor Atrium Club from 12/3 through 12/10. I think I'm going to have an ulcer by the time we get down there as I've been planning this trip for my family (DH and 2 DS) and my in-laws. My MIL expects nothing short of wonderful and it's all up to me to make that happen (if you ever watched Everybody Loves Raymond, THAT is my MIL).

It sounds like the new rooms are great; however, my husband will be very disappointed about the TV's (and my DS 4 always loves to watch the in-room Disney channels). He asked if I thought they were bolted to the wall (ha, ha).

Anyway, was there a lounge for the Concierge even though it is only on the 10th temporarily? This is the first time I'm staying Concierge as well so I'm looking forward to it!

What types of drinks/snacks/breakfast did they have available and what times were they put out?

Thanks in advance for any info!

There was a lounge set up right outside the elevators on the 10th floor as well as the concierge station. The elevators were rigged so that the only way you could reach the floor was by using your room key.

Food was set out from 7 AM-4 PM. Breakfast was croissants, cereal, donuts and some fruit. Coffee and OJ. Snacks later were sodas, Apple Juice, cookies, Rice crispy treats, and the occasional cupcake (complete with the chocolate Mickey Mouse that they also serve downstairs at Chef Mickeys.) In a nutshell, decent snacks, but don't plan on it being a meal.

OMG.....does that mean that the music for the fireworks won't get piped in?

Sept 24th to Oct. 1.

It was great!!!

Oh boy, my sister is coming back today. She had a garden room booked, I hope she got upgraded. It's their first trip and I'd hate to have them be stuck in the so.wing with all the construction and inconvenience.

Well, I'll find out tomorrow.

I'm assuming CR's consierge was not an upgrade - you had booked it??? Umm noise from Chef Mickey... I guess you were basically above the restaurant? When we were there, we were on 9th or 10th fl but up the other end and never heard a sound.

BTW, any info on when the 9th floor will be done?

Bobbysdog - Welcome back! Glad you had a nice trip. You really lucked out at the Beach Club!!

I went ahead and booked a couple of nights at the CR tower club (atrium club) at the end of our Thanksgiving stay as it is my kids all time favorite resort.

I am glad to hear the rooms are cool. Too bad about the functionality issues. The S/D have white duvets and I wonder how they keep them so fresh & clean!?

Thanks for the info & update! I think I have close to 50 days until we check in to the CR. Hope the rooms still look fresh and new! ;)
