DISNEY'S CONTEMPORARY RESORT Information Thread!

I just wanted to be up to date so to speak with everything going on here. I just changed the last 2 nights of our reservation to stay at the CR. I haven't said anything to my DH yet, but I hope he's as excited about it as I. I'm trying to keep this a surprise. (at least until the CR bill comes! Maybe he'll think it's just a payment-fingers crossed)

Anyways. I loved it as a kid when I stayed there with my parents. I was hoping to spread the love with my family.

Lots to read. Great thread with lots of great info.

As of right now all the renovations on the 4th floor have temporally stopped and when I went to visit there last month the lobby was about 99% finished, with the expection of the area where the Contemporary Grounds use to be. Right now that area should be finished however no one has posted anything to confirm that. Besides that they are working on turning the Food & Fun Center into the Wave which is to be the new restaurant, however that area is covered up and no one can see or hear the renovating as it is happening. Renovations to the 4th floor will once again start on May 10th, 2008 since that is the closing date for the Concourse Steakhouse, so that location can be turned into Chef Mickey's Express which would be the new counter service location. Someone posted on here that Chef Mickey's Express will open on August 14th, 2008 however that has not been confirmed. No matter what once Chef Mickey's Express does open that will be the end of all renovations inside the Tower building.

We were planning on upgrading from POFQ to the CR for our trip in May. Our trip begins May 8th - just in time for the renovations. Do you think the renovations will be much of a distraction? I think I heard it might also affect the playground and the tennis courts. I was really excited to upgrade so we could be on the monorail but the renovations worry me a bit. We will be traveling with our DDs (3 and 5) so we will spend a decent amount of time at the resort and especially pool. Do I need to worry or should I consider the Poly??? TIA

I can't say how it will exactly be like and the only thing I can compare it to is when they were building the new store on the 4th floor. During the morning and afternoon you could hear the banging from the rooms in the Tower, however they stopped at night. I am not sure about the playground, however the tennis courts have been gone for a while.

We just got back last Sunday (were there for DD's wedding) and had a room on the 10th floor, bay lake view.....on the end with the new building construction - and YES - THE CONSTRUCTION NOISE IS EVER PRESENT STARTING AT ABOUT 7:00 AM UNTIL THE AFTERNOON - AND ONE NIGHT THEY STARTED AT ABOUT 3:00 AM!!!!!!!!!!:scared1:

So, if you can request a room on the opposite end away from the construction, I think you'll be happy....everything else was great:goodvibes

Since the Poly is on the monorail, you really couldn't go wrong there either....

I was referring to what was going to happen on the 4th floor when they are turning the Concourse Steakhouse into Chef Mickey's Express, however good thing you mentioned about the rooms on the Bay Lake side close to the construction.

Thanks for the feedback. So will the food court still be open renovations? Also - how are the waterslides at the CR and the Poly? Are both good for good children. My girls love waterslides and are pretty brave - but still tiny so i do worry about them on larger slides. TIA - the information is very helpful. As you can tell i am struggling deciding which resort. This is probably the only time we will have the opportunity to stay at a deluxe resort.

The Tempo Grab & Go will be open on the 4th floor as it has been since mid September when the Food & Fun Center closed and there is also the Sand Bar which is located by the pool. The Sand Bar is where you would see a similar menu to the Food & Fun Center, however they are not selling the mugs there.

I found the water slides to be very fun, however only you know your girls and what they will like and not like. So the only thing I can say is to show them the slides and see if they want to try them or not.

Depending on the age of your girls the slides are not that bad. We were there in October and my DD (then 3 1/2) went down once by herself. She had a life vest on that we rented by the pool (thank god). She wouldn't go again during the trip. That was her first experience ever with a water slide. She didn't cry but you could tell it was an experience for her.
If they have done them before and liked them they should be good to go.
Have fun
BTW what is Chef Mickey's express?

Hi! I just booked CR tower, theme park view for Nov 9 - 15. It's our 1st trip to CR & my DS's(2) 1st trip to WDW ever! :dance3: We are pretty excited. :yay:

I'm a little confused about the changes with the dining options at CR. I know Chef Mickey's is still there. Is there a food court or did it close? I heard the Concourse Steak House is closing also? I guess I'm trying to figure out what are dining options will be in Nov 2008.:confused3

Also, what are the balconies like? I'm a little nervous about DS being out on a balcony up high. Do you feel "safe" with your little ones out there?

I'm so excited! This is a dream come true for me & something I have always wanted to do. :jumping3: :bounce: :Pinkbounc Any advice for a CR newbie?

By the time you are going to stay there all the renovations insde will be 100% finished. Like you said Chef Mickey's will still be there, along with the California Grill. Besides that their new restaurant the Wave which is replacing the Concourse Steakhouse will be open by then and their new counter service location which is to be called Chef Mickey's Express will also be open when you stay there.

As for the balconies if you are worried about your son my advice is to always be out there with him and not to let him go out by himself.

18 Days!!!!!! Can't wait to be back at our favorite and have that fantastic view of the MK!!!

Are you planning on posting while your there, so we can at least know what happened with the mugs since you have purchased the Deluxe DDP.
Yes, I'll have my BB and my laptop and do a live Trip Report. I should have an answer by mid-day on 2/2. I plan on asking a manager at check-in. I'm guessing they have 2 options: refund that portion or give us a credit to use at the Tempo grab n go for drinks. I'll just be very polite but firm about some type of compensation (as it's part of the Deluxe Dining package) if they do not have anywhere to use the refillable mugs.

Well I look forward to reading your live trip report and at least we will all have an answer to this since you have been asking about it for a while.

I'll be looking forward to your TR too. We're going in June on the Deluxe plan and I'm curious how they handle this.

I would make sure to be on the balcony with him whenever he is out there. Always better to be safe then sorry. The view is fantastic so enjoy it with him!!!
