DISNEY'S CONTEMPORARY RESORT Information Thread!

I'm sure the information I am looking for is in here somewhere!! But after wading through about 15 pages I am giving up and just asking for an update!!

We are going to be at the CR from Dec 8-15. I'm wondering what everything thinks we will encounter. Specifically, do you think that the shops will REALLY be done by then? How is the rest of the interior construction coming along? Is the check in area under construction?

I'm also wondering what our quick service food options will be. Does anyone have a menu of what they are offering in this location? Can I use the DDP here?

Are the snack/groceries available in the stores (assuming they are open!) and can I use my DDP for these???

We have a garden view room booked--do you think we will be bothered by any construction noise?

I know that is a lot of questions!!! With our trip getting so close I am just wanting all the details. Any insight you might have to the CR during 12/8-15 would be appreciated!!! THANKS!!!

Yes, you can use your DDP at the tempo grab and go (CS credit or snack credits). We used our snack options there in the mornings for breakfast. Typically, we got a bagel and a muffin, then we'd go to the contemporary grounds to grab coffee, and take everything back to our room. The have an assortment of muffins and such, flat bread pizzas, hot dogs, pre made sandwhiches and salads, soups, fruit, and snacks. But, the quality for everything but the pastries is poor. I would not recommend getting lunch or dinner there. Snack options can be used for break fast items, as well as fruits, chips, or drinks. If you want to use a counter service meal credit, I'd take the monorail to the poly or gf, or the boat to the wilderness lodge.

The gift shop near the arcade did sell some snacks and drinks, including alcohol. Not sure if snack credits could be used there though, i'm guessing no.

Its being reported that the WDW cast have been informed that the last day of operation for the Concourse Steakhouse is May 10th. It's assumed that The Wave will open on May 11th.

Thanks for posting that info, because it would give others with reservations to know when construction on the 4th floor would start up again. Do you also happen to know how long it would take to complete the construction of Chef Mickey's Express?

This will be our first stay at CR. We have a ressie for a Garden Wing - Standard View room Dec 19th. Does anyone have a suggestion as to a specific room or section that I should ask for at check in? Would the third floor be preferable to the first?

In the Garden Wing, 1st floor is the best, if you want to be able to sit on your patio. Also with Standard view I think the first floor would be best because the "view" is partially blocked by bushes and other landscaping, the other two floors would look directly out to the parking lot and back of the Convention Center.

We're here at the Contemporary. The new gift shop on the concourse is opening tomorrow.

The sundries gift shop does allow dining plan snack credits. I purchased a half gallon of milk and it rang through.

Lori, how is the CR? Is the construction all done on the Concourse now? Are you having a great time? Channing is at the GF in RPC now. Maybe you could meet up!

If you see anything Christmasy with the CR, will you send me a PM? Or anything new with a monorail for Rees? Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

We visited the CR in October of 07 (MK view) and we just loved it. I do have two questions though:
1. From the garden view were would we go to see the Fireworks from MK? Assuming a stay not in the tower.
2. Tips on booking the CR. The disney site always seems to show no rooms available.
Please help
We love the CR!!!!

If you're in the garden wing, you can go up to the 4th floor observation deck in the Tower (near the sundries shop) to view the MK fireworks. The CR has become very popular since the rehab of the rooms. Also the room inventory was reduced by a third when the north wing was demolished so its often difficult to reserve rooms. You need to make your ressie at the CR as early as a year in advance to make sure you get a room. Also the WDW reservation engine on their web site is not always reliable. Always call CRO as they may have rooms in their inventory.

Don't forget about the convention factor, which could be another reason why rooms at the Contemporary sell out very fast.

We did not have to wait a year in advance but we did have problems getting all our dates and a Tower View until we go there then they switched us from the Garden View and were able to accomdate our dates so we didnt have to move.

I think with conventions the rooms get booked but then I think things open up when conventioneers cancel.

The new gift shop opened this morning at 9:00. It looks great and has a great pin selection.

The construction for the new check in on the first floor area is still continuing.

We're still waiting to be approached by the dream team! We've been here 7 days and haven't even seen one dream team member. Just our luck.:rotfl:

Happy Thanksgiving,

Lori

Thank you for posting this great information about the new store opening and for giving an update about the construction in the lobby. :thumbsup2

For anyone who has been to the Contemporary since the arcade has opened, have you noticed a space between there and the Sundries store? I asked some Cast Members if they are planning on building something in between there, however they did not know anything. So do you think something in the future might be built, because I can't see them doing nothing with that huge space.

Thanks. :) I got the outside CR construction too. The store is really cute, but I wish it were in a different location - with more unique merchandise!
My guess is the new store is selling the items that were sold in the Fantasia store, which were the items directed towards kids. So I guess you can say the adult items are being sold at the Bay View Gifts store.

I was just there two weeks ago and a cast member at the monorail station said that it would also contain a fun play area for the kids.
