Disney's CONTEMPORARY RESORT Information & Questions

Looking forward to our first stay at the Contemporary in just 17 days! First time going during spring break from 3/27 to 4/6. We usually go during the summer months. Our only concern is that we will be arriving at 1:30 am. Other than that we will also be going to Sea World for the first time.

Have a great trip :). Spring break time is a little busier than during the summer, but the couple of times we've gone in March the weather has been great and the crowds not too terribly bad.

I can't believe that after almost a year of planning we check in to the contemporary tomorrow!!!!

How exciting...have a great time :yay:. Can't wait to hear all about your stay when you get back!

Is your son into pirates at all? Or Peter Pan? We did the Pirates & Pals fireworks cruise in October and had the best time!! It leaves from the CR and is an amazing way to view Wishes without the crowds. Kenny the Pirate has a great review of the event on his site. We did ours on a MNSSHP night so that we could see Hallowishes again :)

He's only 16 months old right now, so he hasn't really developed an affinity for Pirates...yet. I am not sure how he even would like the fireworks since he hasn't stayed up late enough to see any. We'll think about it when the vacation date gets closer, although I wonder if those cruises sell out way in advance.

Chef Mickey's. Get your reservations as soon as you can. (It fills up). I'd recommend at least breakfast. You might want to do dinner, as well.

It's a great, really filling, meal. And you just can't beat having Muckey and Goify and all come to your table for autographs and pictures.

(Although, yes, I will mention that some kids just get terrified when the characters get about three feet away. I guess they're a lot bigger than on TV, or something).

So far, DS has cried when we have tried to introduce him to any characters, but he may be over it by the time we go...not sure. We never ate at Chef Mickey's in the past, but we did notice that it was particularly loud and wondered if the rooms with doors facing the interior of the resort would hear it.

Well, all of the Tower rooms have doors that open into the "Grand Canyon Concourse". (Although the 14th floor club rooms have their own floor.)

Me? I've read a lot of posts about people complaining about noise from Chef Mickey's. But I spend probably 20 hours a day in my room, when I'm at Disney, with the curtains closed, laying on the bed. (Long story.) And, although yes, I can hear the sounds from the restaurant. (Particularly when they have their "celebration".) But they have never been a problem.

The way the rooms are laid out, your closets and bathroom are between your bedroom and the concourse. (And the doors are steel.) Not much noise gets through.

I'm sure you can request rooms that are at the opposite end of the building from Chef Mickey's, if you're worried about it. But like I said, I've never had a problem.

Just wanted to jump on here for the last time and let everyone know that everything is ok on the home front, but I did feel better getting home late last night and being here just in case. Have fun to everyone who is either still at WDW, just got to WDW or will be arriving soon.
Good to read that everything is OK at home.

Hello everybody!!!! Has anybody used the Direct To Room Online Check In Process for the Contemporary yet? My Check In isn't until August but would like to know ahead of time. Hopefully by the time my Check In comes, Disney would've worked out the tech kinks they might have.
Bumping your question...

We will be staying at BLT 2 bedroom lock-off lake view. I am hoping for some suggestions for a room request. I tried looking at the published maps, but I am having trouble figuring out what might be best. Any suggestions?
Did you look at the BLT Room Number/View thread HERE? That's my suggestion and requesting an OUTER VILLA so you aren't looking toward other BLT villas.

We just booked a BLT 1-bedroom lake view for 3 nights, Oct 23-26! We have never stayed at the Contemporary or BLT before, so we are really excited. Our son will be 2 years old on Oct 20, so we feel like a 1-bedroom will be perfect to give us a little privacy while he sleeps. I am going to read through this thread as much as possible and check the DVC boards for any room request suggestions, but if anyone has any input, that would be great. Also, if there is anything at BLT or the Contemporary that would be perfect for a 2-year-old, please let me know. We are not DVC members (we're renting points), so it is my understanding that we cannot access the Top of the World Lounge.
Congratulations on booking and I'll add your dates to the Log-orail. Don't forget to also look at the BLT Room View thread I linked to above. Again, we prefer the OUTER VILLAS.

Ok silly question... If we arrive and our room is not ready, is there a place to change out of our "airplane" clothes (maybe besides a bathroom) that we will have access to?
Nothing besides a bathroom, unless you're feeling adventurous;). Well, maybe the changing room at Bay View Gifts? But, I would ask first. There are bathrooms also near the pool/marina.

You'll love spring break at WDW. We'll be there around the same time and the weather is usually ideal and F&G is beautiful.

I can't believe it either!!! I hope you're all packed and please try and check in with us if you can. Oh, and on't buy up all the CR merch. before I get there;)

Just put down my deposit for November 12-19 in a Garden Wing room. Stayed there last year for the first time and loved being able to walk to the MK. Can't wait!

Just registered. My first post after being a long time watcher.
Checked into CR garden view room on March 8th. While on the magical express at 1230 I received the text saying my room was ready and the room number. I went directly to the room without ever stopping at the lobby. Requested close to transportation on online check in and we were fairly close to garden wing entrance. We were only there one night and then were checking into the BC standard club level. I received a text around 11 am saying my room was not quite ready. I think I had noted 11am arrival at online check in. Around 130 I received a text saying to "see the front desk". When I arrived I asked a CM out front with the iPad and she took us right up to the 5th floor. I asked about the text and she said they just wanted to go over the club level information. For both reservations I had completed all of the pre-requirements.

Yippee! I'll log your dates and what's there not to love about CR?!

:welcome: to the DIS and we're honored to have your first post here, Jojo200!

Thank you for posting here about your experience with the new optional check-in. It sounds like it worked flawlessly. When did you receive the option to choose this?

I received an email about a week prior to arrival from WDW for each of my two reservations. Basically explained the new option and directs you to complete online check in including adding your credit card, email address, and cell phone number. Both of my reservations were already paid in full. My magic bands opened my CR room with no problem and charging with the magic band and pin code also worked with no problem. I did not have the dining plan. So, for me, I would say it worked perfectly as we were intending to drop our bags and head to the parks. I think if we had a non-club room at Beach Club they would have just sent me that room number too. Beach club had to activate our magic bands for the elevator access to the 5th floor which may be why we had to be taken up initially.
Looking forward to returning to CR garden wing July 29 to August 1, 2015 prior to a stay at the Polynesian. The Contemporary is our family favorite and every time we stay there we say, why do we stay anywhere else? But we enjoy trying all the resorts.

Welcome to the DIS boards Jojo200!!!!! I'm honored that your first post was answering my question, much appreciated. :) The question had a lot of reads but no response for awhile. LOL. What about your Welcome Kit that I heard that they give you when you first check in, was it already in your room or did you have to get it yourself? Did the Online Check In service give you the option to choose text or email as far as how they notify you about your room?

I remember filling in my email address and cell phone number and they actually sent the messages about my room being ready to my cell phone via text and to my email as well. Not sure if there was an either/or choice. This was on the regular online check in form. I did not receive an immediate response like a text or email so I was not sure if it would really work. Then about a week before my check in dates I got the email saying I was registered for the new bypass the front desk process. I don't remember if the welcome packet was in the room. We only stayed one night so I might have just missed it.

So I found out some info about the Welcome Packet you was supposed to get when checked into your room. I read on 3 websites that you will need to get your Welcome packet from the Front Desk and that its the only time you will really need the Front Desk during the check in process. Either way, I DEFINITELY plan on using the Direct To Room service, I want me and my girl to drop our stuff and head straight to the Magic Kingdom at Rope drop. LOL. This question is for you WDWKOOK, you've already helped me a great deal in getting the Tower Club Suite for me and my girl's 5 year anniversary and for that, I thank you again for that first off. :) Now you mentioned that you should get a Club level email from the Contemporary basically welcoming you to the resort & asking if you need help with Dining reservations. I still haven't received my welcome email from them yet, my question to you is, should I send an email to them about the welcome email right now or should I wait longer? I was thinking that they didn't send it because I didn't pay my whole reservation off but I did a long time ago and still nothing. What do you think?

I never got e-mails for my last couple of CL stays (BC, GF, CR), so I just sent them an e-mail introducing myself. They then sent me the planning document and I filled it out. Your reservation doesn't need to be paid in full for them to start assisting with ADRs, etc.

Thanks AliceIn, appreciate it, I'll email them later today. Did they email you the planning document or did they do it snail mail? What does the planning document entail? What questions does it ask you? What information do you need to fill out? Thanks again. :)
