Resort Thread Disney's Club Level (CL) Thread

So, I may fly the coop. I have an opportunity to switch to BC CL from Poly CL for a few dollars less. Our dates are Sept 30-Oct 5. Thoughts??

I would switch, too. We were originally booked Poly CL with a GV. They've only just started the east pool work, but I think it's going to be a mess there. Even if you have a lagoon view, you' might be hearing the work if you hang out at the resort. I follow Tikiman on Facebook and there was a post yesterday that the patio rooms on Samoa (east pool side) had their patio doors locked so they couldn't use the patios. It was so they could move the trucks in and out, I believe.

So I am back!

I don't want to be negative, but feel it is only fair to say..for my DD and I, we didn't feel Poly CL was very good. I would have rather had a TPV in a regular room.
To be fair, we stayed at GF CL in February and BC CL in May..so maybe we are spoiled. The offerings just were "Eh" and breakfast was only bagels, Croissants, small muffins, oatmeal and cereal. GF and BC both offer meats and cheeses in the AM.

The staff is great and better than we experienced at BC for the CL desk, but the Poly had this one CM that was there each day and it seemed she wasn't happy that you were there, eating in her area.

We had Room 1503 which had a fantastic view and we could see the castle between the bungalows but the people above us apparently had an elephant in their room every night about midnight till 2 am! I swear they were moving furniture.

The pool really needs to have the same thing as SAB where they check your MB and give you a bracelet because people were there that were not guests ( we saw them walk through an open gate and looked like they had all their belongings with them) and when another guest and I reported them, we were told "hmm..we will let a manager know" and nothing was done all day.

Towels on chairs is rampant, but I did notice on Monday, they were going and picking up towels without any personal belongings left at the chairs.

The east pool closing really didn't hurt our stay..Yesterday it was noisy with the beeping of the lifts, but not terrible.

I would recommend anyone in Hawaii, get a room with LV or TPV like we had..it was very busy and not pretty looking South toward the pool.


ETA - I was surprised the room looked a bit worn. There were lights burned out in the bathroom that they replaced right away, but the fridge cabinet door was broken and the bathroom wallpaper had been scrubbed so hard the print had worn off.
Lots of small things that I noticed because I am in construction..plugs not working, clock set to the totally wrong time ( i looked up the manual online and removed the plate to correct )

Thank you for your feedback! DH & I had a very similar experience when we were there in February, and checked out after the first night. I was completely disappointed in the lounge offerings, and our room on the 3rd floor had so much wear & tear it was AWFUL. Poly always was the resort I dreamed about staying at, and our first trip there in 2014 was great (non CL)! We were shocked at the difference this time around, and couldn't wait to get out. Luckily, it forced us to try AKL CL when we normally wouldn't have, and I'm so thankful because it became my FAVORITE, up there with GF RPC. DH & I have agreed that we wont be returning to Poly until the next round of room updates. Unacceptable to stay in a room for that much money a night and have it be in such crappy condition. (I'm talking stains all over the place, holes in the wallpaper, etc). A lot of CMs we encountered were miserable, and said hi/good morning to multiples the day we ended up checking out, and they couldnt even be bothered to respond or smile. I don't even know if we'll stay CL again there, but we'll see! I do hope they update the rooms soon, aren't they due for a fixing soon?

I personally think getting seconds and thirds (and fourths) is perfectly acceptable. In my mind, the issue with someone going and taking 10 skewers at one time is that it empties out the tray and others have to wait for refills. If you only take 1 or 2 skewers then other people can get 1 or 2 and then, hopefully, they get refilled and you can go back and get a couple more and so on.

So, to me, it's not the quantity of what someone eats but that they try to take it all at one time so others can't get any and then have to wait with nothing on their plates while someone else has a ton.

But I believe that's common courtesy at any type of open food event. I'll have a plate of food and then when other people have had a chance to get their food then I go back and get more. If the lounge is empty or there's like 10 full trays of skewers then I even think it's ok to pile your plate high in that situation - LOL!

It's about sharing and not thinking 'I paid for this so I can take this whole tray if I want to and I don't care if other people are waiting' type mentality that I find rude.

This. Completely. I've gotten seconds/thirds of some things before, but I'm talking taking one or two pieces of an item at a time. The issue is with people who take a whole bunch of something, basically cleaning off the tray, leaving nothing for anyone else. I haven't encountered too too much d*uchery in my CL stays YET. There was a time at AKL when DH went up to get dessert late in the evening, and picked up the tongs to grab the last tart (first item he went for that evening), was going in for it with the tongs, a man walks up, grabs the tart out from under him and pops it in his mouth. ***?! It was not busy, not like there was a line or anything, it was literally just my DH (we like to wait to get stuff until there's no line). Unfortunately there's always going to be at least one group of a**holes on every trip. Like this man, or the mother who would yell at her children in the lounge, then ignore their crying/pleading, or the kid who went up to the ice bucket, picked up a bunch of ice cubes, put them in her mouth & played with them, and then dumped them back in the ice bucket. If people would just be polite, courteous, and SUPERVISE THEIR CHILDREN all of us would have a much more enjoyable stay.

I actually have another question for you all -

I know it seems "frowned" upon to load your plate full... since the offerings are not meant to be a full meal...

Lets say I try the chicken skewers and the xxx dessert... really, really like it... Would it be totally inappropriate to go back for another serving and again for another? I know it is kind of the same as "loading up" - just more spread out... but what if something is just yummy?

I have no intentions to make any offering a "meal" (other than breakfast...but we aren't big breakfast eaters anyways so we will eat a croissant or something and be on our way) so it is not that I plan on over doing it for the sake of "saving money" ... we have TS meals planned every night anyways but I just kept thinking about how bad I would look going for a secong serving of a certain thing...

Just the fact that you are asking this question means you are just fine! I have witnessed the most disgusting, rude, gluttonous behavior you would not even believe it. This is why we always have a dinner ADR. I have almost given up on evening appetizers because the process makes me so angry. We mostly just use the lounge for breakfast and snacks. To me there is nothing there that would serve as dinner for my kids. They like a big juicy steak and large manly portions!

If I tell my husband one more time that I'm concerned about out Polynesian CL stay next month he'll kill me!! LOL He's had to "talk me off the ledge" a few times already, and he isn't concerned in the least. I've shown him the pictures of the new pool layout, the new lobby, and even the recent picture of the fencing around the east pool. To him, the Polynesian is "our" resort. He reminds of why we love this resort, and it has nothing to do with the food in the lounge or construction going on, unless there was a cherry-picker outside our balcony!

We've stayed CL there many times and have never had a bad time; even though I could probably list things that could be considered a negative thing, like the CMs who were putting the food out and acting like the guests in the lounge were taking their own personal food away. LOL I am past letting "bad" CMs effect me. I tend to kill them with kindness. lol

Anyway, I guess I'm just venting a little here since my husband, who is sitting next to me working from home today, who will kill me if I even hint at wanting to switch resorts!!

I just talked to a DISer through PM who is currently in Hawaii, 3rd floor. She said the construction equipment noise and beeping starts around 9:30 AM every morning. No direct impact on the building, just the nuisance of the sound and a few closed walkways. I think today might be her last day so hopefully she'll come back here with a full report when she gets home.

I think your DH's reminder of why you guys love the Poly -- and it having nothing to do with the food in the lounge -- is key for you guys. We are similar in that we have our own reasons why Poly is so special to us, though we'd love to see Poly update their lounge food and the rooms already need a refurb, sadly. It's funny but it almost seems like home -- you finish one project and then it's time to start another project. Seems like it never ends lol.

Thanks Erika! The thing is, I don't think that anything short of the Hawaii building being leveled will make him consider staying somewhere else!

But I like to read reports from the people who have just been there, so at least I know what to expect (like those gross-looking corn dogs! ).

I'm very curious to see if the "feel" of the resort has changed for me. I know that everyone is different, but I'll know as soon as we arrive at the resort and walk out the back and down to the Hawaii building whether it still feels like my home at WDW or not.

I'm going to try and post live while we're there since I'll have my tablet with me.

I feel the same way. I remember quite vividly our October 2008 stay at the Poly for MNSSHP. Everyone said the rooms would be complete crap and we had probably one of the best trips ever! I don't usually look around for chipping paint and cracked tiles anyway. But I do notice if CMs aren't friendy. That worries me more than food or room condition. The best part of staying CL is the personal interaction and friendships with the staff.

Are you guys friends with Irv at Poly CL? He's the older man that works in the lounge (retired from Social Security job I believe, full head of white hair, very social and friendly!). He goes above and beyond for the guests and takes the time to know people. Other than him, we haven't made many other CM friends at Poly.

I did forget about the very big stain on the carpet right as you walked in the door.

I know there is commercial cleaners that take out even oil (we use them alot in construction) so that was the first thing I saw when I opened the door.

Like I tried to express, this didn't ruin my trip by ANY stretch of the imagination..it was just sad that I was so excited to stay at the Poly again and honestly, I could have stayed in a regular room for far less and had the same experience..KWIM?

YES!! He was a doll!! He would give you the "last call" before they took the food away. There was also another CM in the morning that would get me Pog juice that wasn't out for breakfast.
