Resort Thread Disney's BOARDWALK INN Resort

A few more questions about our upcoming first BWI stay and I'm going to apologize because this might sound confusing lol...

We're checking in on 6/24. We want to go to the MK that day for a 9am opening. We will be driving from the Tampa area. We have lunch reservations at TCP and were not planning on physically going to BWI before lunch. Our room is booked with a military discount and we are on the DDP. Can we do online/streamlined check-in (I'm not really sure what the difference is) and use our dining credits for lunch that day before we physically go to BWI? What about parking at MK before receiving a parking pass? I've been trying to research this and keep coming up with conflicting answers. I guess we could go to BWI first thing and check in before MK but that would mean waking up a lot earlier to drive and I'd rather avoid that if I can. If we do go to check in at BWI first thing, would we have to go all the way to the CL desk since we are booked in a CL room? Or could we just quickly check in in the lobby and be on our way?

And one more question...my parents will be with us on check-in day but are not staying at BWI. Would they be able to go hang around the pool with our older kids in the afternoon while my husband and I get settled in the room and put our younger kids down for a nap? They would not be swimming, just supervising our 8 and 13 year old.

Thank you!

I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong but I don't believe you will be able to go straight to the park. Since the idea is you have to show your id to get the discount I believe you will have to check in at the resort in order to have access to your room entitlements. we are using the annual pass discount and when I did online check in we were directed to the resort and I haven't gotten any correspondence in regards to going straight to the room and skipping the desk. I don't think these discounts allow for it unfortunately.

I don't think you will have a problem checking in at the main desk as opposed to heading up to club level. Just let them know when you arrive what your preference is. we've been checked in in our room via ipad type device at the gf on several occasions so the club level staff may check you in in the lobby if bw has the same capability.

I can't see a single reason why your parents couldn't supervise down at the pool. some may disagree but there really isn't any harm in it. enjoy your trip!

I realize this is a silly question but does anyone know if they still have strawberry soft serve at seashore sweets? Do the flavors change frequently or remain pretty much the same? thanks for humoring me :)

We go to the BW once a year, so it's hard to say if it's "frequently," but they do change the flavors. I was hoping for cookie dough last time and had no luck. Strawberry might be something they always have though. I really like Seashore Sweets, they usually give huge scoops, so two scoops is enough to share for two adults.

And then I just realized you asked about soft serve!! Never mind my answer. Don't take this as gospel, but if my memory serves, in December the soft serve machine was completely gone the last time we were there! My wife commented on it being gone. But it could have been in the process of being repaired/replaced...? Maybe someone there more recently can comment?

Thank you for your kind comment.

Personally, I would avoid Disney Springs until all the renovations are over. I don't think there's such a thing as a "quick trip" over there, unless you take a taxi. I've read that traffic has been terrible over there with all the road construction and I would rather spend some alone time experiencing the parks than traveling to/from that area. There are lots of great caramel treats and apples at Karamell Kuchen and it's a much more relaxed atmosphere;)

This is a bummer to hear!! The Karamell Kuchen is a fav but they stopped carrying my favorite apple a few years ago. I used to make a bee line for Germany to get a caramel apple with chocolate and pecans. Now they stopped carrying them, and last month I went in to see if they had a change of heart...No luck - AND - they stopped carrying the pretzel rods as well! So now I don't know where to go except DTD to get an apple custom made! I did forget to look in the shop on Main Street but I thought they stopped selling them there as well. I also want to go to the Silver Shop, but maybe I should just wait until next Easter. It was a crazy crowded insane mess when we were there and even I was losing it - not much can get between me and shopping :)

Regardless, I am so very excited to stay at BWV!

We are staying at BWV right now. I just went in to Seashore Sweets and asked them about soft-serve ice cream. The previous poster is correct. They no longer serve ANY soft serve ice cream. He said that the closest place for soft-serve is over at the Dolphin hotel.

oh no :( I guess we'll survive on the regular ice cream ;)

thanks for doing that! Enjoy your trip!

We are at the BWV right now. Just arrived yesterday (4/19/2015). We were pleasantly surprised to be placed in a refurbished studio (Boardwalk View). We are in the Crest of the Wave section, room 3005 (third floor). As we made the last turn into this section yesterday, we noticed that the hallway carpet suddenly changed so we had hope. Sure enough, when we opened the door, it was a freshly refurbished room. :jumping1:

Here are some pictures:

Is that a lighted magnified mirror on the side wall in the bathroom (please let it be :genie:)?

So I'm going to assume then they will be upgraded to the one bedrooms as well....and if so... I don't have to keep bringing this ridiculous thing bubble wrapped in my bag anymore as I can no longer see to put makeup on without lighted magnification :sad2::sad1::crutches::

Great News, And very nice pictures...Going to be crossing my fingers, for all to be completed as they once told me...Mid August..:worship:

I have a quick question. As someone who has never stayed at Boardwalk...is the noise in the evenings from the boardwalk disruptive for sleeping? We have little ones, and would not book a water view for this reason. Or do the sounds travel to the garden rooms too? We would love to try, but wouldn't handle rowdy noise into the wee hours. We will also be there during F&W if that makes a difference. Thank you!

We've stayed at BWI three times - twice with boardwalk view and once with garden. I prefer boardwalk because I love the view and find the music out on the balcony very relaxing. We've never had difficulty falling asleep on the boardwalk side, but we're usually not settling in until 10pm or so. We can usually hear the friendship boats now and then, but nothing disruptive. On the other hand, my husband prefers the garden side because, in our experience, it's literally silent over there.

The noise level from the boardwalk has not been bad the times we have stayed here. I hear more noise from the hallways than from outside. An upper floor, though, might help. Others might disagree...

:offtopic:. I can't stop crying. My 16yr old dog, my hairy man, is suppose to be put to sleep today. He's in a lot of pain, hasn't been well for long time, & they can't help him. I'm so sad. Last night I tried thinking of Disney, it's my happy place I think of when I'm upset, but nothing can help, I guess. I don't know how I'm going to get thru today. Sorry for going OT & being a downer. I don't know what to do, but cry, I'm so heartbroken.
