I love DTD but I was just trying to think of the closest bus ride (I know the kids will be antsy after the flight!). How is the ride to DTD?

..Typhoon Lagoon is closed for refurbishment [the bus to DTD also goes to that water park] I don't think it should be too bad....

:flower1: Hi everyone, I wanted to know if anyone was at AKL for Thanksgiving Day? We are planning our trip to arrive on that day and I need suggestions for dinner ideas. Also, how crowded were the parks that day and the following week end. We are thinking we might just to the resort for those 3-4 days and then hit the parks. Anyone have any suggestions?

Sorry you haven't gotten a reply yet Angel.
We'll be there 2/9-2/13 for the 1st time.
Do you or anyone else know whether you can get a schedule of events (ie.storytelling etc) ahead of time? I'm an itinerary nut but I'd like to build in some time to hang out at the resort for our DS's 6 and 5. :D

Hi everyone!
Have some friends coming to AKL in April. They haven't been to Dis since the 80's. We have come quite a bit but never to AKL. They've asked for my help in finding a room(s). They need to sleep 7 totally. All the kids are under 12 with the littlest being one year. Can a deluxe with bunkbeds sleep all of them? Looking to make ressies for them for April 26th through 29th. Anyone have any ideas of a best bet for them? Also need a 'smoking' single room for their parents. :listen: I'm all ears for any help you can give me. These folks are a precious family...but having not been to AKL, I'm not sure what to book.

WISH IT WERE US, BUT HAPPY FOR THEM! :jumping4: :jumping4: :jumping4: :jumping4: :jumping4:

Thanks for any help...watching for room only codes too!

Hey there! I certainly hope that the family has an excellent trip! Now I've never been to the AKL before but have been doing some research on it myself and I'm pretty sure that the regular rooms only sleep four, and the deluxe rooms 5, so if they are going to stay there they are going to need to book 2 rooms unless 2 of the children are infants and can sleep in a crib. I haven't heard of any rooms there with bunk beds but could be wrong on that. Someone else here will probably know the answer to that. There are also suites there that could sleep all of them I believe.

We're going for the 1st time in Feb. My understanding is a deluxe is just a little bigger than a regular room but I do think it gives you a daybed. I think the daybed only sleeps one so I'd say the max you could fit in the room is 5 (plus one under 3 in a crib). You can definitely request bunk beds - we did for our trip. They do have suites but I have no idea what the layout is and I'd guess they're pretty pricey. Might be better off with 2 connecting rooms. Late April codes haven't come out yet, but keep checking Mousesavers to see if they do.
Hope they have a magical trip!

Angel16,

We were at WDW the week of Thanksgiving in 1998 and 2000. The AKL wasn't open then. We stayed at the Grand Floridian and the Caribbean.

The one thing I can tell you is that the parks were extremely busy the day before Thanksgiving until we left on Saturday. My two kids (teenagers) were constantly complaining about the long lines.

I hope you enjoy your trip to the AKL. I have been there three times and can't wait to go back.

Thank you Kathy for the information. Where did you eat dinner on Thanksgiving day?

The reason we chose those days are friends are going to be coming along. We are not sure this early in the planning the exact dates they will be joining us. We love AKL and we have ressies for concierge. We plan on just enjoying the resort and probably do DTD and Epcot, if they are there with us then fine, if not we will have a great time just the two of us. We will have the whole week after Thanksgiving which I understand is a pretty slow, so we will do the rides then.

Angel,

We had Thanksgiving dinner at the GF's 1900 Park Fare both times. It was a great buffet featuring the normal turkey, etc., and other great foods.

Does anyone know if the "Deluxe Savannah rooms" all have good views, are they all on a certain trail or do I need to get some room requests on my reservation? We have a non-smoking request on there because our kids have asthma, but I would really like a great view, too, since this will probably be our only trip to Disney for many, many years (our first trip, too). Thanks.

I really don't think there are any "bad" views at AKL...even if you're overlooking the "people pen". From what I could tell, the non-smoking rooms were closer to the center of the resort. We were in a smoking room and it was a longgggggg walk to our room.

Hi All,

Posting live from the Zebra trail at the AKL. We flew out of Logan early yesterday morning on Song and we were in our room here at the AKL by 1:30pm yesterday afternoon. Check-in only had to wait about 10min in line and the CM that checked us in was great. We have a view of the Uzima savanna and are seeing a lot of birds and some bongo up close. Very relaxing. Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi, Tiffany, thanks for asking.

Yes, I do have questions! Does the gift shop have the Yin Yang Tiger symbol Animal Kingdom beach towel? Does it have Castle lager or Corona or only domestic beer? How's the weather?

I hope you have a really great time.

I SOOOOO wish I was there with you, instead of here with a foot of snow. Can you find out how to make a Mt. Killimarita (amounts as well as ingredients) and a Hakuna Matata?

Thanks so much and have a GREAT time!

Tiffany! Say hello to the baby ankole, and ankole Jr for me, please! If you are at the "end" of Zebra Trail, you are in my favorite location. Even though I hate walking, that is one walk I will keep on doing. I love having the savannah to "myself". Enjoy your trip!
