We leave in less than 30 days - woo hoo! One last question...we are booked in connecting standard pool view rooms. If at check in we are offered an upgrade to savannah view, would you take it or prefer a really nice pool view? I've heard mixed reviews on this. My kids will like the animals, but I'm sure we'll get to see plenty of them! Also, if offered an upgrade, would a CM be offended if I asked which had the better view...the best available pool view or the savannah view?? Guess that was more than one more question! Thanks for any input!

Here's my opinion, after having stayed in a savannah view room...

I'd take the pool view because of the central location. The resort (according to the CM that checked us in) is shaped like a horseshoe. We were almost to the end of the right side. It was a lonnnnngggggggggggggggg walk to get anywhere, pool, Mara, gift shop, lobby, everything.

With a pool view location, you're more centrally located and there are viewing areas everywhere. Your kids may really like seeing the animals from their balcony (although we got a little tired of seeing the same giraffe day in and day out), but the walk might be too much of a pain.

We never even made it around to the savannahs on the left side of the resort.

I can't imagine that there would be a "bad" room there though.

Just my 2 cents.

For any of you who are going to AKL soon, if you could possibly find out the ingredients for the Hakuna Matata and Mt. Killamarita drinks, I'd be forever grateful. I don't even need the measurements (although that would be even better) because half the fun would be trying to recreate them!

Thanks in advance!

I found this website that has the ingredients for the Mt. Killamarita. It has: Jose Cuervo Gold, tangerine liqueur, splash of cranberry juice.

Cool, thanks! I'll be trying that out this weekend. Now we just need the Hakuna Matata!

I searched and searched for the recipes...how did you find that?

I just put the name of the drink into Google and the site came up. I guess it was just luck of the draw!

....another call from Don at concierge! What an attentive group! I feel like I already know them....he is currently trying to book an Illuminations cruise for me, although it doesn't look too good....drat, shoulda called 90 days out... :guilty: !

They have a reputation for being able to work miracles, don't they?

If you can't get the cruise, have an extra Hakuna Matata. You know what that means, right? "It means no worries for the rest of your days" :rolleyes1 :cool1: :Pinkbounc

Rach98n- I am really in love with AKL and I would not want a pool view. The animals are so amazing. My DH and myself enjoyed watching them at all times of the day and night. The whole resort is so completely different than anyplace we have been before, but the animals made us feel like we were in Africa. I don't thinks a CM would be offended if you are offered an upgrade and you ask for his/her recommendation on which would be the best view. That being said, if you have connecting rooms, that may be more difficult to get an upgrade with. So many people stay for numerous days and getting two rooms connecting in an upgrade may require a lot of pd. :wizard: But I would certainly ask the CM if it is offered.

I hope you have a wonderful vacation. Let us know how it all turns our when your return.

I posted a question in another AKL thread but I just finished reading this one & maybe its better over here. I've looked everywhere but can't find out if there is a walkway to the AK from AKL. Please don't laugh if this is a dumb question - its my first trip to AKL!!! : :D

Hi, 3Mouseketeers, Please see the other thread. I have answered there and hope you will receive more answers regarding this. IMHO it is not far from AKL to the AK. I am sure you could physically walk it, but I don't think there is a trail or walkway.

Anyone have any solid information?

Does anyone know if they sell the Animal Kingdom beach towels with the yin/yang symbol on them in the gift shop in AKL? I lost my last one, and would like to replace it this trip, but if I could do that when I arrive, I wouldn't have to bring one for before we go the park. TIA.

Kungaloosh!
Morticia.

3Mousketeers,

The AK is only about a 5 minute ride from the Lodge. The only to get to the park is by car or bus.

Kathy

Thanks Kathy. I don't know where I got it in my head that there was a walkway. But, a 5 min. bus ride doesn't sound bad at all. We'll be arriving at AKL around noon on Wed 2/9 and the kids will be itching to do something "Disney." What would it be like to hop over to the AK for a few hours in the afternoon? We bought annual passes so "wasting" a day is not an issue. I just didn't know if the park would be really crowded by the afternoon. Any thoughts anyone? BTW, is anyone going to be at AKL w/ kids 2/9-2/13? We have 2 DS's 6 and 5 and a DD 1-1/2. Just wondering and keeping this thread active is making me really excited about our trip!! :cool1: :cool1:

3Mousketeers,

That would probably work out great. AK is only open until 5:00 PM so the children would not get too tired after the flight and all. Another option would be to stay at AKL and enjoy some of their children activities. They have different things during the day for children to earn beads to place on a neckless. Also the pool is FANTASTIC! I don't know what time of year you are going, but a afternoon at the pool would be relaxing, but also let your older children burn off some energy from the trip. The resort is so inviting and relaxing as well and entertaining. Animals, guides, story telling, hidden Mickey's, explore one of the outlooks and much, much more. There is enough to explore around the resort that you wont be bored.

Oh....now I'm getting homesick for AKL! I can't wait to return :D
