Sorry to hear that, Kimmar. We lost 2 of our furbabies within 6 weeks of each other last summer and it still hurts. :sad1:

So, we were booked for 4/17-22 in a club level room, but with the announcement that Rivers of Light was debuting on 4/22, I somehow convinced my DH to extend our stay another night. Still not really sure how! But, the room was already a stretch on our budget, so I will be moving rooms the last night to save a bit - I'm sure they will think I'm a bit of a nut job, but if I get to see ROL, it will be worth it! I don't think we will be able to return for a couple of years, so it was a tough pill to swallow to depart on opening night and I'm very excited we'll have a chance to see it! Now stalking for some type of FP or dining package...wish me luck and thanks for all of the great info I've gotten on this thread!

While good and worth trying, I personally don't think they deserve the hype they get, but I will say the cold ones in the fridge at The Mara are better than the ones that have been sitting out at Boma.
LoL that's funny you say that, because I actually don't like the cold ones....But to each his/her own..I do enjoy them though..

Why don't you just stay at a value for the last night, since you will be moving rooms anyway?

I thought of that, but we're already doing a split stay, since this wasn't planned. Having done a couple of split stays in the past, I just think it will be easier to move within the same hotel than to go someplace entirely different. I'm not sure of what we're going to do that day until the evening, plus we'll know the lay of the land there at that point, and I'll know our luggage is at least in the building. But thanks for the suggestion! I was just excited about it and thought this was a good place to share!

If I rented points, can I not change "my" online check in room requests?

I rented points also. I took my confirmation number and linked it through my Disney experience and it now will allow me to do online check-in through there

Mine is linked, too, but it isn't letting me change my room requests. Why would I choose upper floor instead of savannah!?

We just returned last night from a week at AKL. We had a room overlooking Uzima on the Zebra Trail and my husband (a WDW first timer) is now hooked. Throughout the week all I heard was "Why would we stay anywhere else?" So I think we have an AKL addict amongst us. I even have him talking DVC. Success!

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned already--forgive me its old news--but the bus wait time boards are up at Jambo and are fairly accurate. Plus they had a CM out every morning calling for an earlier bus if a crowd started to form.

They also had a girl out one morning playing games with the kids to pass time waiting on the bus. She came through with a cart and the kids had to reach in and blindly feel the objects inside to guess. She'd then pull the items out and teach the kids a little something about the animal it represented.

We've heard so much recently about Disney making cuts but it didn't show. When the girl came around my first thought was that would've been an easy place for Disney to make a cut and yet here she is keeping guests entertained in the morning.

Hmm...in that case I would definitely contact my rental agent ASAP. They may have to change it

Sounds like a great stay! That's nice to hear about the bus wait time boards! It seems easier to wait when you have an idea of how long the wait time will be!

Nobody can change requests via MDE. It's not possible. The points owner will have to call and change that.

Our first night at AKL, we want to eat at Boma and just hang out at the resort. We have two kids, 11 and 9, and we've heard there are a lot of fun evening activities - campfire, nightvision goggles, etc. There seems to be some availability in reservation times, so would we be better we an earlier reservation (like 6:30 range) or later (7:30 range) in order to take advantage of some of the fun stuff to do? Or even earlier? Any thoughts/suggestions welcome! Also, any suggestions if there are activities you've enjoyed would be great!

We were just there in February and I think the campfire then was at 5pm and the movie at the pool was at 7pm. I don't know if those times are for all year round or not. We did Boma at like 530 which was nice since it was before the bigger crowd set in. We loved Boma. my kids prioritized the movie so we did early to go to that.

I'm really glad to hear that a cast member was there to call for extra busses. We had our first trip to AKL last year and a 40 minute wait for a bus was not uncommon. By the time the bus would arrive there were many angry passengers. The only bus that was consistently available was the bus to AK. There was usually a cast member at the bus area but they never called for extra busses. Perhaps Disney has heard enough complaints and decided to try and fix the problem. ?? Whatever the reason is, I'm thrilled to hear this news!
