Disney's ANIMAL KINGDOM LODGE Information & Questions

I have a really silly question that I'm hoping someone can answer. My DH stayed at AKL last June. I'm unsure what our room number was but we were on the same level as the lobby. In order to get to our room we walked towards the big open window, past the fireplace and down a long hall. I believe we were close the the very end of the hallway and seemed to be off by ourselves. We paid for a standard view but were able to see a number of animals in the distance. (There was a very large empty pen just outside of our room.)

The reason I am giving such a detailed description of my room location is because I am wondering if there is an easier way to get to the bus stop. We ended up walking about a 3-4 minute walk just to get to the lobby and then had to walk to the bus stop from there. It wasn't too big of a deal last year so I didn't try to find any shortcuts. However, this year we are traveling with my parents who are in their 70's. I know that a shortcut would be a good thing for them.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a shortcut for us?

Thanks!

It sounds to me like you were on the Zebra Trail, most likely on the Uzima Savannah... A decent walk yes..

If you are in a Savanna room then I'd try an say closest to lobby...If in a Standard or value, I'd suggest staying were we stayed on the Giraffe Trail. We were in the 1st pod of rooms off of the lobby above Jiko...Literally 2 rooms from the windows that separate those 2 pods....Also that's were the elevators are located as well. Easy to get to restaurants, pool, and most of all SHORTCUT to the buses....No more wasting those useless extra steps walking to the lobby only to do an about face and trek back towards the bus stop...

Here's a link to get a better idea..

We are leaving for our first stay at a AKL tomorrow! (Renting a DVC studio at Jambo.) I've read through most of this thread and found a lot of helpful information, but if there are any "insider" tips or tricks, I'd love to hear them. I don't want to miss out on the special little touches that makes each Disney resort unique.

I am looking forward to the zebra domes. I am also looking forward to seeing more of the resort. We went to Boma and the gift shop from the main lobby. I walked out the doors to whatever savannah that was there. - With the rock formation and such. I have never even seen the pool.... I am so excited to be staying here. :P

Arusha Rock..Which is where they have the S'Mores campfires, and that overlooks Arusha Savannah.

Both pools are awesome & you'll indeed have fun..

Hi Guys, I need to do room requests. I've paid for Savannah View, 2 queen beds. Our number one priority is good views of the animals, I'd also love to be as close as possible to bus stop and the Mara. So what do I request? Does it matter which trail I request or what floor? Is there a way to decide between Arusha or Sunset? I don't see that in the request options.

I'm sure we are going to be happy, but I just don't want to end up with an obstructed view of some sort.

Okay, I've now added this to my must have list! Thanks.

While good and worth trying, I personally don't think they deserve the hype they get, but I will say the cold ones in the fridge at The Mara are better than the ones that have been sitting out at Boma.

Hi! We just booked AKL savanna view 1-4 June for the 1/2 half of a split stay. I just want to ditto all of scrapquilter's questions.

I am really excited, it is going to blow my kids minds when they look out the window and see giraffes and whatever wildlife :squirrel::squirrel: is outside at the time

Yes. It's got me hooked on the place.

Hi All
First time considering AKL. We will be there in August ( our usual time so I know the heat issue). Looking at 1 Bedroom with Savannah view. Is Jambo better? Kidani? What are the pros and cons trade offs? Rooms better? Views? transportation? I'm sure there is a lot of information in this 154 page thread and I've skimmed some of it but hard to determine. My biggest concerns are how long it takes to get to places and how the views are. Can you request a specific savannah view in each DVC?

Thanks much

We just had our first time there and our kids absolutely loved it! We have awesome pics of zebras and a giraffe and some other animals with big horns/antlers, etc. We were on the 4th floor on the Sunset savannah and were quite close to the lobby. The only thing I requested was an upper floor, but I think in the online check in you could request two things and near the lobby was a choice. I'm sure others will have better input about specific requests, but we liked our spot and our savannah view in sunset.

If you can do Boma. We all just loved that for dinner especially and the breakfast was pretty good too. Mara was good also. They had a really nice set up where you order and pay and then get a buzzer to go pick up your food once it was ready. We loved that. The turkey sandwich was delicious. So was the rotisserie chicken dinner and the falafel pita.

You will be there at a perfect time to enjoy the gorgeous pool area and water slide. We loved staying at AKL.
