Resort Thread Disney's ALL-STAR SPORTS Resort

Staying at Sports for the first time in 13 days!! :yay:
Awesome!:)

I'm planning on going down to Sports Saturday-I'll tell them to get the Resort in tip-top shape for your first time stay!

I would be remiss if I didn't "warn" you the Cheerleading and Dance Worlds will start rolling into Sports around the 20th staying until around the 26th.:)

if you are taking teen age sons, they will want your room on the 3rd floor facing the fb field like shown above.
took 3 of my sons as teens and this is how they wanted to spend hours of their time one day...

Hey you guys are giving me flashbacks when I stayed at sports late April last year. I was ready to give up on this resort after that stay with all those loud teenagers. Planned my next trip this coming may for after they are gone.

i've only gone 3 times when there are groups at Sports.
hit the cheerleaders and SA groups.

not counting the run event in october.....
the hotel/sports is full but it mainly is adults and they go to bed early after race day.

We were there in February and had no issues with groups. We are thinking of going back last week of August next year. Any normal groups that week? Seems like it wouldn't be since school just gets back in most places, but curious.

You should be fine.

No Cheer/Dance Competitions and The 15s will be back in school(however it does now seem like there is a chance of 1 or 2 groups of 15s at just about any time of year these days, but nothing to worry about).:)

So for my last day at Disney i have decided that we are just going to wing it. No reservation for lunch or dinner no fast passes made. We will leave the resort around 11am at checkout time and go wherever. Maybe to play putt putt golf and then a early dinner at ESPN. Hope it doesn't bite me in the butt. Lol.

Our last 3 trips we started doing this. First time, on our last day we walked to the bus stop and got on the 1st bus that pulled up. No FPs, no ADRs, etc just winged it. We liked it so much, the next trip we did that for 2 days. The next trip 4 days. We had so much fun leaving everything to chance that our next trip we are going to do all 8 days like this. It's an awesomely freeing feeling. We are really looking forward to it.

Thinking about booking a last minute trip for myself and my daughter. Our dates would be 4/17-4/22 (checking out early morning 4/22). Looks like worlds will start on 4/23 so I'm thinking the there will be a lot of groups there the week prior as well. Do you think that's true or do most "roll" in right before? We will mostly only be at the hotel for sleeping but mostly concerned with the lines at busses, lines at food court, etc.

In our experience they roll in right before.

Thanks for the warning. We leave the 22nd in the early morning so we should miss most of that fun time. Lol.

Teams will be checking in Wednesday-Thursday-Friday.

International Cheerleading and Dance will have actual competitions Thursday-Friday.

So,it will be a gradual arrival starting Wednesday with everyone there by Friday.:)

Living on the edge, I like it! Lol. We never quite do exactly what we plan for on departure day anyhow. This trip I'm going to try and squeeze in some time at AK since our flight doesn't depart until 8pm and we are only there 3 nights. But that means I need to be up and ready to check out early to make the most of it. Somehow it always takes much longer than I anticipate to be ready to check out even when it's only two of us, so we'll see.

I am at wits end as to what to do that day and hubby isn't much help. I can throw whatever at him and he will be happy. Check out is at 11am so we will probably sleep in and leave our room around that time. I like the idea of jumping on whatever bus pulls up first. But I was also thinking of going to the Boardwalk and eating lunch/early dinner at the ESPN Club and playing putt putt golf. That would kill some time.

I have reserved Tusker House for Lunch and Kona for breakfast. Hubby has never tried the tonga toast there and I know he will love it. Other than that we are eating counter service for the rest of the days there. I had cancelled a ressie at Crystal Palace for Thursday after deciding against it. Too high priced for just the two of us.

Hi, All! I'm not a fan of any sports in particular, but just booked (literally the day after we got home from our last trip) for my DD (17) and I to stay at All Star Sports for our August trip! We were planning on staying at Pop again (we had a great time last August there just the two of us, which is how we like it as we love Disney more than DS or DH do), but they didn't have the type of room we wanted (roll in handicapped shower, as she can't stand in the shower and their shower seats are really a joke, and the king/double beds) but *** did have it. Now I'm scouring this thread!

I booked us 9 nights on the summer sale, but if free dining comes out, I'll see if I can switch to that instead of the discount (and we'd save the tickets for next spring, since we upgraded to AP's last time - we liked the QSDP last August even though it was way too much food!).

I already am planning on bringing our travel coffee maker and shipping a Prime Pantry box with water and some snacks and essentials. I've heard good and bad stories about delivery, but we'll see as it gets closer!

I now understand you can walk (well, I'll push her in the rental wheelchair) to McDonald's? Seriously? She loves those Egg McMuffins! That may be fun. Well, for her! Is there really a sidewalk?

I looked up and the ESPN site indicated a soccer thing going on over the weekend that we're there, so paid the extra few dollars for preferred room. It looks like building 1 is the closest?

My usual request is high floor. I would rather not have someone above us! We tend to sleep in on vacation. I figure with preferred we may be less likely to have sports teams as next door neighbors!

By the way, we stayed the first two nights of spring break at Pop, and it was overrun with baseball teams. They were tossing balls around like mad - one almost hit me as I was walking by the computer pool. It was okay since I knew it was just two nights, but the place was a madhouse. In August it was really nice & quiet.

If anyone has any advice, I'd love to hear it! We also got our plane tickets already! $150 round trip per person out of BWI. I haven't seen fares like that in years! I jumped on it (well, used DH's points in case we need to cancel it's easier and took so few points!). This trip is super cheap for a Disney trip since we already have AP's.

Surfs Up 1 and 6 are the preferred buildings but the way it is laid out, doesn't always mean you are close to the main lobby/dining room at Sports.

I've gone that route before but now try for Touchdown.

There is a sidewalk to mcdonalds.
Once you wak it in the hot sun, it seems longer than it really is.

There are only 3 floors to all the buildings at Sports.
You do have less noise on the top floor in most cases.

I have booked the hc room at Sports before and it has the roll in shower.
shower seat and hand held shower head if needed.
The one thing i did not like about the set up is the water does flow towards the toilet area.
It will drain back to the shower drain but until it does, the floor can be slippery.

The hc room i had was one king bed.
Do not know if they have 2 Q beds for hc.
