Resort Thread Disney's ALL-STAR MOVIES Resort

Sorry! Can you post the link to this, I can't seem to find it on allearsnet.com. Thanks! I'm just so disappointed too and not sure what to do. We're going at the end of October for our first trip! It just seems like so many things are happening to disappoint me already. First the change on the preferred rooms and now the closing of the Fantasia pool. I don't know if we should switch resorts or stick with ASMO.

Oh I just found it on allearsnet. Here's the link http://www.allearsnet.com/tp/rehabs.htm#oct

Good that you found it! :goodvibes

So.. anybody knows what happens when the pool is in rehab? At first I was very dissapointed but overcome it, we'll have 2 days with the pool and the we can go to another but.. DH asked me if with the pool in work, would it be covered and blocking views? Will people be working on it and doing a lot of noise? :confused3 NOW that could be troublesome!!
I'm thinking now in switching resorts!!!

Oh no! I just found out that the Fantasia Pool will be closed from September 11th thru... I think early December, I didn't catch that bit since my trip is in September 9th and almost cried! :furious: :badpc:

This is weird! We were just at ASMo in January & after our 2nd day there, the Fantasia Pool was closed for a major rehab!! They must have major problems if they're shutting it down again.

To answer the question about work, etc: Our kids swam in the pool at about 10:30 or 11 pm, then the next morning (early, like 7 am) we walked by on the way to the food court & there were blue boards (like fencing, but solid, and too high for my 6'2" DH to see over) ALL the WAY around the pool (and it's a huge pool!). You could tell people were working inside the enclosure, but it wasn't noisy or anything. HTH!

You can use the other pools in the other All Stars though... but even so.. :sad2: it's just not the same, it's my first time there and with my kids and I was talking and talking about going to the pool with Mickey! DH won't mind because he doesn't like pools, but I dooo! and DD7 toooo!
Anyway, I requested a room in the Toy Story buidings, but with this piece of news I think I'll prefer the Dalmatians, I think it's close to the other pools?

I'm very disappointed too. I'm thinking of switching to AS Music but I was lucky to have the AAA rate and now I'm sure to lose that at this point (I booked way back in February). Either that or, at the very least I'll switch to Dalmations.

I agree there's no point being in Toy Story now with the pool closed. We had requested Toy Story too.

I just wanted to add, in case you don't know (but you might) that ASMO made changes to the Preferred buildings. They now class Toy Story, Dalmations and Fantasia buildings as preferred. So if we want Dalmations we need to pay more.

That happened to us in June '03. THe pool closed the day we got there, and was being filled with water the day before we left. I can not imagine why they would need to have it down months. THey refurbed the pool including replacing all the tile and resurfacing the entire area inside and outside the pool in 10 days.

I suggest changeing your reservations. Dalmations is ideal if fantasia is down.

BTW, The piano pool over at Music was gross because of all the extra people. THe water was murky with sunscreen.

I am so sorry this is happening to you. I wouls call and see if you can switch your reservation, possibly to a different resort. Then again you do have a couple of days with the pool...

Very helpful post! That's a good point about the extra crowds at the Music pool. And the murky water - eeew!!! Not to mention making it that bit harder to keep an eye on three kids in those crowds.

actually, you might not lose anything... we have free dining at ASMo and when my TA called to switch it over to ASMu she was told NO WAY! all free dining packages are sold out and the promo is over... so she called back, asked for a guest services supervisor and because of the refurb (we were paying for preferred to be near the main pool!) they were honoring requests to switch keeping all packages, prices, specials, etc in tact... it might be worth a call! :)

Thanks Gigi!! That's good to know!!!

I called earlier today to switch to POP (sorry) and was told that all values except for sports was sold out for my week 9/30-10/7. I booked this way before free dining was announced and I am bummed about the pool.

I will call again and depending on response will ask for supervisor.

Do you think I should call as if I am making a new ressie?

Can you tell I am just NOT assertive

Thank you... it's good to know that it isn't noisy. Do you think that in overall affected the view? DH and myself are thinking not to request a change in resorts... if at least we have two days (we arrive at the 9th and refurbs starts in the 11th) we'll see all the resort as it is... after that, we might be tired after the parks and maybe we wouldn't mind the fence if it doesn't affect the resort in general...

I called today also to see if there were rooms available at POP for our dates (10-26 to 10/31) and there still are (even with AAA discount). I think we will change to POP. I guess I better hurry before there are no rooms left! Hope we will like POP!

Another person disappointed by this news. We are there 10/14-10/20. I do not want to walk to the other places with 2.5 year old in tow, and I'm assuming the ducks pool will be pretty full. We're on the wait like for Shades of Green now, but then we will not be able to get the dining plan. I guess I really can't be surprised by this news- if I didn't have bad luck, I would not have any!

When I was there in June, every room got a new mattress and box springs.
I called the resort one week before arrival to confirm connecting rooms and refrigerator. Told them I was to be late check-in, and knowing both of these things were on a first come, first serve basis, I was afraid I wouldn't have one or the other, or even both. The cast member who I talked with said since I called, he would almost guarantee both. I didn't check-in until 11:30pm, both my request were granted.

When we were there during a rehab there was a "knee wall" around. You could easily see over. There is noise, but mostly during the day. There was also a smell... If I had known it was going to be in rehab, I would've switched resorts. The other pools around got very busy as thousands of people were offloaded. The kids area was still open, but who knows what an "extensive rehab" means...

If it was my decision, I would be switdching.

(We had a great time, but the pool aspect was disappointing. Having the feature pool last summer made things so much better)

Call them back and ask them for a free upgrade to a moderate. If it works, please post here for others to take advantage of.

Free upgrades are a discretionary thing. You never know

Just wanted to subscribe to this thread to keep updated!
I cant believe they have decided to do this during MNSSHP time!
I presumed this was a popular time to visit WDW & that a major rehab would have been at a 'quiter' time! :(

Well. I have been on the phone with reservations, guest services, ASMo, reservations and then guest services again. I highly recommend it as a fun way to start your week. :furious: Bottom line is, unless I want a standard room at Music(which would also mean a walk to the pool) or a preferred room at ASSp which doesn't appeal to us at all, there is nothing they can do. I tried to get a free upgrade to a mod, but they seem to think there is nothing wrong with us having to transport a 3 and 1 year old to a different pool and kiddie pool on a regular basis. I'm definately not happy about the situation even though I know we will have a good time in Movies nonetheless.

Well that's bad news indeed!! I was about to take Steve's suggestion, but ... well, I got free dining! not everything can be perfect. My concern is that the other pools will be veery crowded, and I really don't feel like walking like crazy in quest of a quiet pool! But alas.. that is my fate.

I did this yesterday. I called the first time, was told the same thing, that all values were sold out (we are going the same dates as you.) I called back, and when the second person told me the same thing, I requested that they call and check with guest services. It took about 10 minutes, but they were able to switch us to Pop Century with no problems.

As another poster mentioned, it may have had something to do with the fact that we had already paid for a preferred room near the pool. If you were in a standard room at Movies, they might still say no. But I would still give it a chance if the pool is a really important thing for you.

Any tips on how to request the TS bldg? Gma might be taking us there for a night or two in Jan. while we are visiting family & I'd love to do this for ds. He is a TS fanatic!
