Resort Thread Disney's ALL-STAR MOVIES Resort

I posted this on another thread before thinking that maybe it belonged here on the FAQ thread for ASMo instead. I read on another site about a traveler's recent stay at ASMo. They really didn't have a lot good to say, which I take with a grain of salt anyhow because everyone is so different in their expectation. Anyhow, they posted about not expecting anything more than a bar of soap, no shampoo or lotion during their stay. Has ASMo stopped the little bottles of shampoo and conditioner or lotion? Or do y'all think he just had an off experience? :confused3 Certainly this is nothing that will deter me since I'm not going to WDW for free shampoo and soap :rotfl: but I'm just honestly curious.

I was wondering about this too - we are booked at ASMo before our Disney Cruise, and didn't plan on taking extra shampoo, etc. in our luggage since it would be on the ship for later on, but maybe we need to for ASMo?

We just got back from 3 nights at ASMovies. They supplied two bars of soap (bath and facial) and a small bottle of shampoo. No lotion or conditioner.

We also spent 2 nights at AK Lodge. They supplied really nice "Aquatics" products - shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and lotion - they smelled great! Also two round bars of soap - it seemed to be better quality than the ones at ASMovies. I was also struck by the contrast between the towels (thin vs. thick and soft); sheets (scratchy vs. soft); and toilet paper (at ASMovies, it was gray and scratchy; at AKL, it was Angel Soft brand).

I've never stayed at value and then deluxe right in a row like that, so it was interesting to compare. Both were great, though!

Thanks for the info regarding the toiletries at the All Star Movies, we will pack our own shower gel and shampoo/conditioner etc.. I guess they may not have those lovely toiletry dispensers in the bathroom anymore. At least we'll go prepared:thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 Thanks for the comparison on the little details. I expected as much. It's only fair, really, IMO:goodvibes

Hi. I have been reading so many pages of this thread and I may have missed it but how big are the fridges provided at Movies. Will a gallon of milk fit..I would hate to get one there and have it opened, but have no where to put it right side up. Now that I re read my question it seems a bit strange, butthanks for the help.

The refridgerators are the "mini" types that lots of college students use. They will fit a couple of gallons of milk, if that is all you put in.

BTW, it is at no charge if you have medications that need refridgeration.

My DH and I will be at ASMO Sept 10-15 and as you can tell by my moniker we are of a mature age. I have reservations for a preferred room, have requested a king bed and we will have a comp fridge to put my husband's meds in as he is a diabetic.

We would like to be near the front as possible to make it easier for us. From what I understand, you can request a specific building, but how soon can you make that request? Do you think that Fantasia would be a good building for us? I do know that there will be a lot of children at ASMO which I have no problem with, but has anyone suggestions as to which floor of Fantasia might be better for us (if we can get it)?

He has to eat a good breakfast and I eat mainly cereal or fruit. Are there many cereals to chose from or anything like a fruit bowl? Do you think I could take my own cereal and bowl and just buy the milk there?

We will have our car there and I have mixed feelings about whether we should ride Disney transportation or drive to the parks. Any advice there?
I had planned to spend Friday evening at MK since one of our favorite things is Haunted mansion. Have I read correctly that MNSSHP is on Friday night, the 14th? I think that we should avoid that night there.

Are there any recent mature folks who were recents guests a ASMO who mights give us some thoughts on the matter.

Our first visit to Disney was the year after it opened in 1972. Our DD was born the same year that WDW opened. I still remember the look in their eyes as they experienced everything. Sadly we will never have Grandchildren to take to Disney.

Anyway, this mature person will appreciate any thoughts to make this another good experience.

Hi OM - I recently stayed at ASMo, and will try to answer some of your questions:

1. I, too, am diabetic and also have mobility issues. We booked a preferred room and requested the Buzz Lightyear building, and got it. Fantasia is a little closer to the pool and food court, so that seems like a good choice. I believe you can make requests any time - just call CRO or your TA.

2. All of the buildings have an elevator in the middle, so you might want to request a room close to the elevator. If you get a first floor room, you won't have to mess with the elevator, but there may be noise from people above. If you get the top floor, you might get a better view and won't have noise from above. If you want a quieter room, you might want to request a room facing away from the pool.

3. There is a fairly good selection of cereal and also fruit cups at the food court, some have yogurt and granola - yummy! You can bring your own cereal and just buy the milk there.

4. As for the question of driving or taking the bus, it really depends on personal preference. I just don't like taking the bus much, and I do like the convenience of coming and going when I want to. I do generally take the bus to MK, to avoid having to park at the TTC.

5. Instead of avoiding MNSSHP, you should go! It's a lot of fun, and a fairly inexpensive "day" at MK. You can get in as early as 4 p.m., and the rides generally have very short waits. The parade and the fireworks are awesome! My DH and I are late 40's and we would go even without the kids.

6. Have a great trip!!!:thumbsup2

I have gotten to page 9, but that is a few years ago and haven't gotten to all the updated stuff. I'm sure this is answered somewhere, but I want to know before reading al lthe pages which may take me a few days....
I don't want to pay for preferred, but don't want Herbie or Mighty Ducks. I read at the beginning that Toy Story and Dalmations are also preferred nwowtoo. Is it only part of the buildings or all of it? I know at Pop they have some sections that are part preffered and part standard. Is there a map that shows what is preferred and what is not?

Do you have shops in the all Star Movies and what is the name of the Shop in all-star Movies?

We are coming in September. This will be our very first time at Disney and we are all excited. We are celebrating my son's 5th bday while we are there. We are staying at ASM and have requested a Toy Story room. Does anyone know if I can get a cake delivered to our hotel room?

I have read on other posts that I can get one from Boardwalk Bakery and carry it back to our room, but I am afraid something will happen to it in route.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

You can't get a cake delivered as they don't have a bakery onsite. YOu can get them delivered to a restraunt . The WDW Florist has a cute candy bar "cake" that can be delivered to any resort.

Happy Planning!

Do you have a number for the WDW Florist or a website for them? I would love to see a picture of that cake. Sounds yummy!
