Friday, March 23rd--Castaway Cay
First of all, I can't believe I forgot to mention the character breakfast we had on Thursday morning. We really liked it. The food was nothing to write home about, but the characters were a big plus!

My kids are just starting to get to that age where they aren't really too excited to pose for pictures with characters, but when the characters come to your table, they have no choice.

I got some great pictures with LOTS of characters. I'm convinced that if it's characters you want, the cruise is a much easier place to get the pictures and the autographs than the parks are.
Okay--Castaway Cay! What can I say about Castaway Cay? I love it! I would spend my entire trip there if I could! It is, by far, my families' favorite place on the cruise!
We were able to sleep in just a little on Castaway Cay day because we couldn't get off the ship too early anyway. The temperature was a little chilly when we first stepped off of the ship, but it wasn't too bad.
The first thing we did was head for the beach chairs. I didn't really care too much about getting a hammock, but I did want to get prime beach chairs if possible. So, we decided to walk rather than take the tram because we think it's just a little bit faster.
Of course, I did have to annoy my family on the way to the beach. I just had to have pictures of the Flying Dutchman! Oh, and what's this? A Johnny Depp look alike to take pictures with? My family kept saying, "Let's go! Let's go!" But, I won! Here's the proof:
Okay, now that we had the "must do's" over with, we proceeded for the beach. We ended up having our choice of some pretty good beach chairs. We could have probably even had a hammock if we wanted, but I was happy with front row beach chairs so I could watch the kids playing in the sand and water.
We had decided to do the packaged excursion with the snorkel equipment, bicycle rentals, and float rentals. Since it was a little chilly out, we opted to do the bicycle rentals first.
My DD was completely thrilled that she had to wear a helmet, but we hopped on our bikes to check things out. The bicycle riding was fun. It was neat to get to see a little more of the island. The last time we had visited CC, we just stayed on the family beach and didn't go any farther.
The kids got a little bit ahead of DH and me, and we noticed that DD seemed to be a little "out of control". Well, DH turns to me and says that he thinks DD is out of control and about that time, she runs over a man that is walking on the path.

Now, this about sends DH and me into hysterics. I know--we're pretty pathetic people, but it was pretty funny. The path we were on was VERY wide, so we aren't real sure what in the world DD was doing! The man took it very well and just told DD that she was supposed to go around the people. He did laugh about it as well though.
On our way back, it began to sprinkle a little bit. I started wondering if our time at CC was going to be spoiled by the weather, but the rain didn't last long, and the day ended up being beautiful.
We headed back for the beach after returning our bicycles and teasing DD about her out of control driving. Thank goodness she still has a few years before she can get a driver's license!

I did forget to mention that DH was videotaping while riding his bicycle (it's amazing he didn't hit anyone), so we got to have the whole running over the man thing on tape. Priceless!
We spent a little bit of time just lounging in our beach chairs and then decided to get lunch. Lunch was pretty good. In fact, it was better than I had remembered it being last time. I think DS ate atleast 3 or 4 ice-cream cones before I was even done with my lunch.
After lunch, we just relaxed on the beach. It just doesn't get any better than that. DD went to play in the water with one of her friends from the DIS, DS decided to work on a sandcastle, and DH and I just laid in the sun. Finally, DH and DS decided to snorkel, and they thought that I should join them.
Well, I put one toe in the water and probably said some things out loud that I shouldn't have said.

OMG! That water was freezing cold--even for just my toes! I quickly decided that the rest of my family could snorkel, and that I didn't care if I wasted money on snorkeling equipment. I would be much better off in my beach chair!
So, DH and the kids snorkeled, and I just lounged with a few beverages. DH says he saw a small shark while he was snorkeling. He took a picture, but of course, it didn't turn out.

DD and her friend said they saw a baracuda, but I'm not totally sure that is what they saw. DD knows her fish better than I do though, so who knows?
DH assured me that the water wasn't cold after you got used to it, but I just took his word for it. We laid around in the sun for a few more hours, and then I decided to go buy some souvenirs. I hadn't bought anything at CC the last time we cruised, and I sortof regretted it when we got home. So, this time I was going to make sure I spent some money!
Several t-shirts and beach towels later, I returned to see that DH had buried DS in the sand and made him look like a body builder with huge muscles. It was pretty cool looking! It was about 3:00 in the afternoon, and we decided we had probably had enough sun and should head back to the ship.
DH returned the snorkel equipment, and I took the kids to get the sand showered off of themselves. The first time we visited CC, I got a great picture of the kids by those large ball things. Well, I decided that we just had to have another picture. Make sure you look at DS's expression. He was just a big pain in the butt when it came to pictures for this cruise.
Once we got back to the ship, DH and kids decided to get cleaned up for the show and dinner. I went to Shutter's to get some more pictures

, and then I headed to Guest Services to close our onboard account. I had purchased a gift card from the
Disney store long before we left for our trip so that I could have everything paid for and wouldn't have to worry about anything when we got back home, but I still had to pay a little bit more.
The show tonight was Remember the Magic, and I was kindof sad thinking about how fast the week had gone by. I was also sad thinking about having to get off of the ship to head straight to the airport. Last year, we stayed at WDW and did two of the parks. That wasn't in the plans this year.
Dinner tonight was at Parrot Cay. It was a depressing dinner. We had to say goodbye to Evan and Gabor, and I really felt like crying. I was going to miss them. Evan swore that when he is off in October he is going to come to Kansas to work on our dairy farm. However, Evan is pretty ornery, so I'm not sure we'll really see him in October.
After saying our goodbyes, we headed for the Atrium for the Farewell Party. Now, this is the place for good character pictures! The lines weren't too long, and there was every character you could imagine! I would post some, but DS was being a real joy again, so none of them turned out very good. Plus, when I look at his expressions in the pictures, I just want to hurt him all over again, so I should probably not even go there.
After we finished getting our pictures, we headed back to the room to pack up our stuff and get all nine of our bags sat out for poor Jonathan. We found Jonathan and thanked him and gave him his tip. We felt that our servers and stateroom host were outstanding this year, and we tipped accordingly.

I hate to say this (but I can since DH doesn't read the boards

), but DH is sometimes what I would call "tight". Well, even DH thought that we should tip above and beyond the recommended amount this time. Everyone we dealt with went the extra mile this year, and we really appreciated it. My jaw hit the floor when DH told me what he thought we should give

, but it felt really good to hand that tip envelope over to everyone who had made our trip so special.
We all decided to reminisce about our trip and then went to bed. This would be the last night of our "Magic"al vacation.
Next up: Our Magical vacation is over. Or is it?
