Can I rent DVC points to use for rooms at Disneyland? We're going this June.

Yes, you can, but the points are high and cash might be more cost effective. If you have a Disney VISA, they are offering some special Disney deals at Disneyland.

No difference in the rooms. You are just using points instead of cash.

For 2004 points are as follows: They probably are going up for 2005

Point wise, the lowest, Standard views, Value season are: 29/52 for GC, 25/45 for DH, and 21/38 for PP. (The 1st number is Sun-Thu and the 2nd number is Fri-Sat)

During Peak season, the same rooms are: 36/65, 30/54, and 26/47.

When you change rooms to other classifications, points all go up more. For example the GC, Fri or Saturday night, Concierge level, Peak season, is 117 points/night.

You can probably rent DVC points for around $10/point, so just multiply everything above by $10 and that's about what it would cost you to rent and use points. The lowest you could get then is PP, value season, standard view, weekday only, for about $210/night. (21 points x $10)

You'd be better off looking at cash rates in most cases.

Caskbill was all over it. We have been using DVC points for just one night every December, but I am not going to do that anymore after last year. The points just keep going up, and I am an AP holder at Disneyland, so I can get good cash deals at half the points price (assuming $10.00 per point) or better. You really are better off looking at cash - but hey - that's what points are for, is to use them, so if renting seems like a hassle, go for it with the points. The only advantage to points is that you do not have to pay the resort fee that others do, as it is built into the number of points used for the stay but that is only like $10.00 a night I believe. Whatever you end up doing, enjoy your stay at the ORIGINAL Disney park

I am just a bit confused...are you a non-DVC owner looking to rent points from a member to be used @ Disneyland, or are you a DVC owner wanting to rent points out and use the profits to pay for the room @ Disneyland?

To go in June '05 the lowest category of rooms is
Grand Californian - 39 pts. / rental value $390/night
Disneyland Hotel - 31 pts. / " " $310/night
Paradise Pier - 25 pts. / " " $250/night

The point requirements increase for different park view, concierge, etc.

If you are a non-member, you would do better off just paying for the room directly or possibly getting one AP for someone in your party to qualify for AP rates.

Thanks, everyone - I'm a non-DVC member. My family rented points last September and had a great time at Boardwalk Villas, but you're right - renting points to stay at Disneyland hotels isn't cost effective.
