Disneyland workers say they live in cars and motels due to low pay

Not every job. Entry level jobs. The kid flipping burgers.....although at most fast food places that is mostly automated now. I'm in California where that job now legally requires a minimum pay of $20 an hour. But, IMHO in the short term, that law is useless because under current wacky economic reality, NOBOBY will take that job for only $20. The McDonalds near me has been advertising for over a year a training wage of $22 an hour, and $25 an hour after a 90 day probationary period.
Also in California, job ads must list a pay range. So my a job that requires a College degree and experience, starts at $25 an hour.

All minimum wage jobs prior to the 1980s were enough for a person to live off of. The purpose of minimum wage jobs in the beginning was so it was the minimum of what a person could make and still be able to make a living. That is not the case now, because minimum wage did not continuously grow like it should have. Also, the whole "flipping burgers" for kids that is not realistic because those "kids" would be in school, therefore all fast food places should be closed from 4am-3pm. and only open for like.. 5 hours or 6 hours a day if it was truly for high schoolers. But nope, also a lot of places in in my area won't hire anyone under the age of 18.

Well, my first job out of College was in 1979. It was a union job and I made double minimum wage and that was NOT a livable wage. Minimum wage here in California was $2.90 an hour, and I made $5.80.
And like I said, burger flipping jobs are NOT just for high schoolers, but also College Students and Senior Citizens. Many of my friends in College had jobs that started at 4 am before their classes, so finding people over 18 isn't an issue.

Okay, and my point still stands. Minimum wage was meant to make it so people could live still. A job is a job and you should be able to make a living on any type of job.

I see your point. But I disagree. An economy needs jobs for people who need a little income, or a supplement. THAT is what minimum wage jobs are for. Students and Seniors.

Well in this economy, people don't need a "little" income they need a livable one. Many students and seniors can't afford to live so it's time for shareholders and CEOs to get over it and pay people what they deserve.

Nobody. And I mean nobody is calling for a 218% raise. Nice Straw man argument. Well then. I'll see your straw man and raise you a red herring. " I guess you're just fine with the people that service you and make your vacation nice living in their cars."
After, "as a shareholder", all I hear is blah, blah, blah

No argument here on CEOs. I would caution that shareholders often depend on that dividend income to live or pay their kid's College Tuition. So what would you suggest for those looking for a little side income, like senior citizens and students?

Tuition in 1984 at my state college was $800/semester. People could work minimum wage jobs; side hustle on the weekend or waitress/bartend and earn college tuition. I'd love to see where one can go to school nowadays for 2,400/semester (or 3X the minimum quoted)

Supporters of the bill emphasized the necessity to create better conditions for the one-third of Americans who were financially struggling, noting the law would improve labor standards for the labor force. Proponents said the bill would end “unnecessarily long hours which wear out part of the working population while they keep the rest from having work to do.” They noted that a minimum wage would support the entire wage infrastructure by creating a floor that workers could leverage to achieve higher wages through collective bargaining.

I remember seeing something say about fast food places "only high schoolers should be working minimum wage jobs at fast food places"....and someone replied "yeah, and that's why all fast food places are closed between 9AM and 3PM every day because their employees are all in school" (sarcasm)

My argument back was equally bad. But I deliberately worded like it was to illustrate how bad his was. But he didn't seem to get the point.

Ok than who works the 7-3 or 8-4 shift? Students are in school. Who works graveyard shift clean up? College Students can but High school students can't. Disneyland is busier in the summer. Sure, they can hire students as supplemental labor then. But high school students wanting some Play station money are flat out are not going to be the mainstay of permanent Disney employees.

In 1968, fees at a UC (that's the highest system in California) were $300 a year. There was no tuition.
Now, it's $15,154 at UCLA. That's tuition and fees. Total with room and board, 42,127. Try that with weekend and evening work at Disneyland.

That would be a question for the people who do the scheduling, but apparently it works.

The University my daughter is going to in Germany is $2,428 a semester.

EDIT: CORRECTION: That is the cost with room and board. The actual tuition is 350 Euros a semester, so about $381 U.S. The Germans are very aggressively recruiting English speaking students for their technology programs.

My point continues to be that it is a multifaceted problem and will require a multifaceted solution.

If people can't see that, the problem will NEVER be solved.
Blah blah blah, nothing burger moving the goal posts, blah blah blah.

So you have no actual response worth a darn. Thanks for playing. Parting gifts in the back.

Ask your fellow senior citizen friends who work a few hours a week at, or near minimum wage. Some do it out of financial need, some do it to have a little extra money, so do it for something to do. You want those folks shut out?
Where did I say I wanted those people shut out?

YOU said "An economy needs jobs for people who need a little income, or a supplement. THAT is what minimum wage jobs are for. Students and Seniors." But that's NOT what minimum wage was devised for. Now, go ahead and tell me that's not what you said.

I think there is a difference between a "Living Wage" and "Minimum Wage". I think you are defining minimum wage as living wage.
