DAY 1 of 3
DAY 3 of 3

Day TWO of our trip report! Details:

When:
Sunday-Tuesday, May 21-23, 2006
Who: DH, me, DS5 (42") and DD3 (38")
Where: Disneyland, Disney's California, the beach
Hotel: Red Roof Inn Anaheim
Transportation: drove from AZ, took ART tram to the park
Park Package: 3 day park hopper passes, with Early Entry (SO WORTH IT!) and Mickey's Toontown Morning Madness.
Weather: almost perfect, cool in the mornings & evenings (bring jackets), perfect in the afternoon the first two days, drizzled Monday morning but nothing serious. By Tuesday it was HOT in the afternoon and we got a bit red.

Alright, the second day was Monday. The park opened an hour later that morning (week vs weekend) so we got to sleep in an extra hour to use our Early Entry pass and Mickey's ToonTown Morning Madness. We caught the 7am tram, made it to the park about 7:30am, and got in right at 8am. We stopped to ride the Astro Orbitors with DS5 (it was his favorite ride) then headed over to Fantasyland and rode rides there until MTMM started. I think its was 9am? So we walked over to the gate into ToonTown and waited until they opened. It started drizzling lightly around this time. We went straight over to Mickey's House. The line was sorta long already, out the door, down the porch, and down the sidewalk. (guess everyone had the same idea as us!) But it was much shorter than any of the lines we had seen previously in the park the day before. (Mickey was to the right in the courtyard after you walked in the gates almost every morning and afternoon) I'm glad we waited until ToonTown to stop and get pics/hugs with him. While we were waiting in line they announced over the sound system that Morning Madness was going to be cancelled due to the "rain". BUMMER! :/

DS5 had been talking about meeting Mickey for weeks before we got to DL, so I was really excited to watch him experience it. However, right when we got up to the doorway and he caught a glimpse of the Head Mouse himself, he FREAKED. I guess Mickey is a little intimidating in person, er...or mouse. ;) DS5 refused to go in the room with Mickey, like clutching the staircase banister with all his might! Finally I relented and told him to wait in the hall while we went in the living room. DD3 loved meeting Mickey and we got some great pictures of her with Mickey, the family w/ Mickey, etc. You get him all to yourself for about 5 minutes in the room, and theres a couch to sit on w/ Mickey and a worker who will take pics for you w/ your camera. Very cool. Then we collected DS5 and went over to the rides. There is not really a whole lot to do in ToonTown to be quite honest, there's only one ride, Gadgets Go-Coaster (although it was fun and DS5 liked it a lot). Then they have about 4-5 playhouses that the kids can run around in. Amusing, but not really worth the effort to walk over there, except for the sole reason of meeting Mickey. We spent about an hour there then headed back to the park.

It gets a little fuzzy here...I can't remember exactly what we did...I just remember being really really tired of walking, lol. :lmao: I dont think we planned out our ride schedule as well that day and ended up back-tracking a lot. I think we went on It's A Small World since its right outside of ToonTown. Both kids loved this ride, and if we had had more time, we would have ridden it twice. On our way back through Fantasyland we stopped to ride Casey Jr's Train, as that was the only ride left that we hadn't been on. The line was super duper long, and everyone was sorta anxious. But Alice (who runs the ride) was adorable, and the kids really enjoyed the ride. The lines were really long at this point, it was about 10am I guess.

We were getting hungry for breakfast so walked over to New Orleans Square and ate at the French Market Restaurant again. We all had Mickey pancakes, which the kids loved! :goodvibes and sat out on the terrace. I really like eating at this restaurant...good food, nice atmosphere.

DS5 had been wanting to ride on the Sailing Ship Columbia since he saw it the day before, so we headed over that way and waited in line. It wasn't so terribly long, maybe 15 minutes. Just make sure you find out which days it is running towards the beginning of your trip, because its off and on. I highly recommend taking the time to ride on this boat. I had never done it before but it was really interesting and fun. It takes you behind the scenes all around the cove. And you can go down inside the boat and look around, too. The kids and the adults really liked it.

We decided to head back to the hotel a little earlier this day, so we could catch the correct tram before their lunch break, and b/c we had really pushed it the day before and we didnt want to be cranky. On the way out we stopped and bought ice cream at the Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor. Very yummy, a definite must treat stop! The kids thought the elephant was really cool, too. We looked around in the penny arcade for a few minutes and we wouldve stayed and messed around for awhile but we were tired and out of time. Next trip I want to plan to stop in there for 30 minutes or so.

We took naps at the Hotel again, then decided to go over to Disney's California for a couple of hours before returning to Disneyland. We headed over to Its a Bugs Land. It was AWESOME. I just wish it were bigger. It is so cute...the whole area is made to look like you are a little bug and everything is made out of giant "human" things like cereal boxes, combs, straws, chinese take-out boxes. Super fun! We rode every single ride in that park very quickly as the lines were very short, and the kids loved them all. Even as adults it was fun to ride them just b/c of the creativity that went into them. There is also a water park area that sprays water out of tubes n such where you can get wet, which looked fun but we didn't do.

Then we went over to Hollywood pictures Backlot. We rode Monsters Inc which was fun/cute- both kids liked it. After we went to watch the Muppets 3-D thing. It was amusing, and the kids liked it. It was nice to sit down in the waiting room for awhile and relax. We walked over into Golden State next and saw the RedWood Creek Challenge which was SO FUN. Its this giant treehouse/climbing/rope/trails/playland with caves and rope nets and bounce houses, etc. The kids loved it, and so did we! :D I just wish we had seen it earlier because by then the park was just about closing and we only got to play for about 30 minutes.

So at 6pm when the park closed we back over to Disneyland for dinner. But first we decided to ride the Disneyland RailRoad train over to Frontierland so we could ride Winnie the Pooh. I highly recommend using the train as a mode of transportation. I wish we had discovered it the day before! Next time I am definitely planning out days with as many train rides as possible to cut down on the amount of walking. The kids loved the train, and it was super fun/interesting to see the "behind the scenes" of the park. New Orleans was especially fun!

So onto Winnie the Pooh, which the kids liked, and the line was non-existant because its in the middle of nowhere and takes forever to get there. Not sure if its truly worth it unless your child is obsessed with Poohbear. Outside of the ride there is a little area where Tigger, Pooh, and Piglet are giving hugs and pics, which for some reason was jam packed with people. We just stood and watched for a bit, then left. We almost went on Splash Mountain but again the line was super long, so we didn't.

We ate at Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante for dinner. Yummy food and fun atmosphere! We sat outside on the terrace. After dinner we went on Thunder Mountain- the line was SOOOO long. Next time we really need to plan this ride into the morning or get a Fast Pass. It took FOREVER. Poor DD3 was going nuts waiting for us (she was too short). We did the child swap thing again (but for some reason the workers on this ride acted like it was an annoyance and we shouldnt have been doing it) DS5 loved this ride! It was always my favorite as a little girl, so it was really fun riding it with him.

Afterwards he headed over to Tomorrowland and went on the "Honey I Shrunk the Audience" 3-d show. It was fun, and again, the sitting was nice :) DS5 loved it, DD3 had some trouble with it. She was very scared of the lion and the snake that *pop* out at you. (DS5 didn't really appreciate it that much either, but he didn't cry, lol). This one is probably worth skipping, especially if you haven't done some of the other rides. I think we would have been better off riding Buzz Lightyear again.

It was quite late at this point, and we were all tired so headed back to the hotel. :cloud9:
