Disneyland, Universal and other California theme parks can reopen April 1

I mean, it will take awhile to actually get the parks open. I imagine they’d want to actually hit red first and certainly might want to wait until Orange capacity (whatever that is) is ensured. I also assume they wouldn’t have sold through April 19 if they thought they could get the parks back up before then. They need to get cast back and trained, figure out tickets/memberships/whatever, etc. So I’d still think maybe end of April/early May would be the soonest to actually open?

Agreed that it will probably be a bit. They have to call back even more CMs and other things. But it’s nice to just see a light at the end of the tunnel finally as far as having the parks really open again

I wouldn't be surprised to see DL reopen ASAP. Maybe DCA will lag behind a little, but the sooner the better. It'll be a slow ramp-up in many areas just like WDW. Low capacity means just a few QS and TS restaurants open initially, too.

Since it's always a "phased reopening", best to start ASAP and build over time.

Also, they can focus solely on the parks and lag a little on the resorts (other than the DVC villas they'll want open ASAP. Already set for May 2, I could see them pushing that up sooner.)

I’m just thinking about it from how they handled WDW. I can’t remember the exact timing but I do remember Universal opened sooner (by about a month?) than WDW. So part of me thinks that it’s possible they won’t jump right away to opening on 4/1 but who knows could be surprised.

I think it depends on just how fast they can call everyone back.

Possibly, but things were FAR less certain last summer. And Universal not only didn't do the plexiglass thing, but also had seriously poor attendance until they offered the "unlimited admission until Christmas for the price of a 1 day park hopper" deal.

I don't really know much about how long it'll take to call people back and get them trained, but we know they've already got the distance markers, plexiglass, and other covid retrofits and procedures ready to go. Also, other than the DVC villas they're already in process of reopening, they don't need to open the hotels yet either (although they might open one anyway), especially considering this is limited to CA residents initially.

yeah the way I keep reading it. Out of state might not be allowed until the tier system is dropped...

which is an interesting choice.

I don't think it'll be hard to fill 15% with CA residents. Heck, there are more people in LA county than the total population in 38 of 50 states! (individually, not cumulatively. But still, a CRAZY stat)

Isnt 15% capacity still around 12000 people or so. Probably more with Galaxies Edge

Okay but when I say till it’s dropped I don’t mean at red. I mean I saw two articles implying that even at the 35 percent at yellow apparently it still would be in state only.

I totally believe they can fill up 15 percent I know how much the parks are local based.

it’s just frustrating as being someone whose from out of state who comes here for medical a lot. Because I went from thinking maybe getting in July would be plausible when I’m back for my next appt. And now it’s back to the only God knows.

I'm disappointed by how many blogs are running with this like it's a done deal.

From the LA Times:

"Other restrictions will include no indoor dining and limits on indoor rides, though details were not immediately available."

The more details we get, the more it sounds like Touch of Disney is basically in line with what they're announcing.

it’s a case of excitement getting ahead of reality it feels like. Someone just posted the breakdown in another thread but I don’t think a lot are realizing that if your out of state your SOL for the foreseeable future

also basically sounds like 90 percent of Fantasyland is going to be closed

wonder if Disney will weigh operating costs vs money from tickets and decide if it may be more money than it’s worth to open now

Starting on April 1, California theme parks can reopen at
15% capacity in the red/substantial tier 2, << APRIL
25% capacity in the orange/moderate tier 3 and <<< MAY
35% capacity in the least-restrictive yellow/minimal tier 4.

California residency restricted -

Well, they either need to allow it to reopen for people from other states before the end of the year, or Disney's going to have to extend expiration dates (again!) on tickets for those of us who bought them before the shutdown but don't live in California, because it would really suck to have the tickets expire because the State of California are discriminating against non-Californians.
