Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

So, Legoland clarified in a comment that in ORANGE tier, they "may" be allowed to welcome out of state guests.

The post is here:

Thanks for sharing this! Very interesting.

They're still working on finishing those guidelines so maybe this is a sign things will change from that original pdf they posted?

Now I feel like I need to be watching Legoland on social media. 👀

Edit: I see they post that similar comment a few times to people asking about of out of state visitors: "In the red safety, we will reopen only to CA residents. Should we move into the orange safety tier in mid-April, this may change. Check back on our website!" Hmmmmm... what's the dirt Legoland!

So it sounds like it’s possible the state may let theme parks open to out of state in Orange, but it’s not for sure yet. That’s a good development to watch!

Now the question is... when we will they post the finished guidelines?

The answer is probably..... "soon" 😅

I booked a hotel stay for late July/August and can just kick it down the road if needed. Seeing some great rates at the neighborhood hotels!

I think it will depend on how the entire state does, because they will need to drop the travel advisory, and it can't be done for individual counties. So, I think if a few more counties get their act together (like mine) they may drop the travel advisory.

Good point.

Or there's the possibility they will just remove the restriction from the theme park guidelines even if the travel advisory stays. The travel advisory says CA folks 'shouldn't' travel more than 120 miles yet we didn't see that in the updated guidelines- only the out of state restriction was mentioned. So could be they could just remove it from the theme park guidelines but keep the travel advisory in place for the state.

I'm not aware of other businesses in CA that have to restrict guests from more than 120 miles or from out of state? For example, a friend of mine is there for the week in San Diego and her family spent a few days at the San Diego Zoo. They're from Colorado but the zoo doesn't have out of state visitor restrictions. The theme parks also draw many out of state guests which is the logic in putting the restriction in though of course.

Maybe the state is debating just removing the restriction from the theme park guidelines once they're out of the red tier?

This sounds like the most likely scenario. I bet the governor will keep the travel advisory until some specified percentage of counties in the state are in Orange or Yellow and we aren't seeing a rise in cases.

Which hopefully is going to continue with its downward trend as vaccinations increase. We're seeing that happen in our state, our cases just keep going down and down.

I think there's some political motivation to ease up going on behind the scenes too, seen the whole saga of what's going on with him in the news a few times in the past week.

This is so illogical. I really want to be in the room when they hash out these protocols. At some point im sure a blindfold and a dart board with business categories listed on it is involved.

Seriously. They went to the San Diego Zoo, a few museums, the beach, etc etc etc.

And then at Touch of Disney this week I saw so many people fly in for it on Instagram (bloggers, travel agents, etc.) I was practically rolling on the floor at the injustice of it all. :rotfl2:

Get Away Today did a walking tour on their Instagram to advertise all the neighborhood hotels around Disneyland though and it was really nice to see them all getting ready for opening. She also said it seemed pretty safe, she didn't notice as much of a problem with the homeless other bloggers were reporting.

A zoo isn't a theme park, though. The restrictions are specifically for theme parks.

The 120 mile travel is a GUIDELINE for residents, it's not an enforceable rule. It's just what the state is asking residents to do.

The theme park rule is an actual rule that the theme parks have to follow if they want to be allowed to open without the state revoking their license.

Agreed! There were 200 CA runners (and their families) at my nieces AZ track meet last weekend. So they can come here, get our germs, and bring them back just fine? I’d bet those kids all went to school on Monday! I’ve said all along it’d be much easier if the travel advisory was enforced in any way other than Theme Parks. But I’m trying to just let it go and not get too upset about it, because it’s so frustrating if I dwell on it.

Im really happy to hear there’s a shot at the CA only being lifted “sooner“ rather than later. That gives me loads of hope for Sept and some hope for Memorial Day.

This is why I was wondering if that's what's going to be dropped from the guidelines- rather than the entire travel advisory as a whole. Maybe in negotiations they're arguing in for it to apply in the red tier but not for orange/yellow?

Same with that 120 mile limit too... what if behind the scenes the state wants to implement that for orange and yellow too? Can you imagine the nightmare that'd be for theme parks to regulate? What if you lived 121 miles away but aren't allowed in? Ooof. Makes me really curious what's going on behind closed doors. 👀

As far as I know, there is no 120 mile limit for theme park visitors in Red tier. THAT part is just a recommendation from the state to the PEOPLE who will be traveling to the theme parks from within the state. The theme parks just have to limit admission to CA residents in Red tier.

I think the only place we've even seen that 120 mile limit mentioned was on Legoland's website, right? So strange.

Seems like things might still be up in the air as they finalize it all. 🤞

Edit: Yeah, here is where it's mentioned.

I think Legoland is the only theme park doing that, probably because the park is so tiny and it is just easier with such small capacity and the limited rides open before April 15. They probably want to give true locals first dibs.

As far as I know, Six Flags Magic Mountain is also opening on April 3. They are allowing all CA residents to purchase tickets. They mention that proof of residency will be required upon entry.

Yeah they took a state “recommendation” and are peddling it like it’s a requirement. No clue why.

Legoland largely draws San Diego residents. That is probably why.

Legoland at 100% capacity is 14,000. So, at 15%, that's a whopping 2100 people allowed in. They can say only San Diego county residents are allowed and they would probably sell out every day. They just don't need to open it up, so they are likely restricting it because they can.

Can we please not go back down this discussion rabbit hole again? This is the only thread still open to discuss DLR reopening, because this discussion has gotten every other one shut down. Let’s keep this on topic.

I live in San Diego and my whole friend group had season passes for years when our kids were little. My friend who lives in Carlsbad hosted a moms meetup at Legoland where over 100 moms showed up with their kids. It’s an incredibly popular place for local families. I think they will have no problem filling to capacity if they really do stick to the 120 mile radius. 120 miles includes all of SD County, the Inland Empire, Orange County, and a large chunk of LA County.

Not all the threads are permanently shutdown, I think they just temporarily locked them until a moderator has had time to review any reports they've had. I think we're short some moderators on this end of the DIS. The main superthread probably just needs to be cleaned up so it's only official info and it'll be reopened.

Let's change topics though... has anyone else read anything about the safety in Anaheim near the resort? Get Away Today had positive things to say while Mice Chat reported some pretty awful instances of crime (especially with CMs walking to work) due to the influx of the homeless.

This might change my decision on hotel vs. motel which is why I ask if it's improving.
