You might be able to have David’s list it as a confirmed reservation. My guess is it will get picked up. List it for what you paid first, but you may need to drop a little bit if it gets closer. At least you’d recoup most of the cost. I remember reading that once it’s rebooked once, he won’t give another voucher, but check on that. I’d wait at least until we hear what the reopening guidelines are, which hopefully should be in the next couple weeks.

That is a good point about allowing the local hotels some extra business, even if it’s just the first month or so. And I agree an extension on the VGC points would be nice... but I don't feel like it’s likely since they are stopping all the Covid courtesies 3 days before VGC reopens. My points expire 8/31. I did drop one night last week so now the only nights I have booked are my expiring points. But there’s no later summer availability in CA so I’m pretty locked into those dates.

I'm definitely doing my part as a tourist and supporting the local, off site hotels! Well. One of them. I'm only one person . And my options are limited as I need pet friendly accommodations.

It's actually been quite fascinating watching the price fluctuations. My hotel is the cheapest it's been in a very long time. The rates drastically increased (and reward nights became non existent) when Wyndham bought them out. But rates are dropping steadily to below even what they were before the buy out. They do jump drastically in June, but that's been a thing the last several months that until a couple months out, the rates are higher than the original rate I was used to for each time of year. I'll be curious what happens with those rates if capacity remains very low.

Obviously the rates right now are low because Disney isn't open. But I didn't even see a spike for the speculated late April Chapek said for a possible opening (I did see a big spike last summer when they thought they were going to open). In fact rates dropped! To me that says they're preparing to have to fight for the limited capacity park goers to stay with them. That's why I especially think it would be amazing for what capacity there is for people needing hotels would be wonderful to have it go to off site if for just a short while like you said. Just to give them a small boost at least.


And ugh. I'm sorry . I'm grateful it's nothing I need to worry about, but I don't like how much stress I see it putting on others. The closest I can imagine is how when they originally had a 120 mile radius, I was concerned if I was going to lose days on my AP. Before they ripped the rug out from under us, I hoped they'd do us the courtesy of continuing to pause our passes. If passes still existed, I would hope they'd still do the same for anyone out of state or country. Extenuating circumstances outside of everyone's control. Things done to protect the safety of all. It just makes sense to me for that and makes sense to me for anyone who owns VGC points with a billing zip outside Cali.

Sounds like the CA Resident restrictions will be enforced, at least in some tiers.

Quick take: theme parks will use GPS and geolocation access along with billing addresses when purchasing tickets so they will know where you live. Doesn't sound like it is open for negotiation.

Oh wow I feel bad for those in neighboring states that may have unused tickets that they already paid for and won't be able to go. I'm glad they will only enforce in some tiers so that they will get the opportunity to go as well.

We don’t know if anyone will able to use existing tickets at first, but I am sure Disney will adjust expiration dates as needed if the in state restrictions stay for any length of time.

Hopefully with vaccinations increasing, we’ll be able to move towards “normal” more quickly now.

It didn't say that would be the only time they check. The end of the article talks about how they have checked for residency at the gates in the past.

Maybe that is why they decided to add green.

It is interesting that Mark Ghaly cited contact tracing capabilities. I KNEW that was why they wanted to limit to CA residents.

GPS and billing zip codes can easily be spoofed either intentionally or unintentionally and it is not illegal to do so. I think those among us who really want to obtain access will find a way.

My guess is this will all be moot and the CA-only moratorium will lift pretty soon after reopening (I think within 30-45 days).

Sure, but that is why they might decide to check again at the gates.

Disneyland just updated their Legacy Passholder Discount program and now you will need to show a personalized "discount barcode" ALONG WITH your old Pass AND a Photo ID. And this is just for shopping and dining discounts! If they are going through that much trouble for a discount program, you'd better believe they will find an airtight way to validate residency if it is a requirement from the state in order to open.

Disneyland hasnt even opened yet, I can't understand why people just can't accept the fact that when they do it will for California residents and they will have IT systems in place to verify this and that anyone outside California will have to wait your turn, which may be months and it may be 2022 before Disneyland opens up to out of state visitors.

I could probably just repost what I said in the other thread.

At minimum, I think they'll use the billing process that they used for the SoCal passes. And, as I felt strongly before (and seems to be increasingly likely), I think it'll be a new ticket, partially to take them through that process.

One wildcard I thought about later - if they decided to be really, really particular about it, the WDW system has an online method for verifying IDs (and address verification) for Florida Resident and military tickets, so they don't have to go to Guest Relations first. Since that system already interfaces with military IDs, it's not out of the question that they might be able to connect it to the CA database (if it doesn't already) and use that for address verification.

That will be very annoying if you can't use existing tickets. They already moved the expiration date from January 2022 to December 2021, so it would be weird having valid tickets and not being able to use them. Especially since I am a CA resident. I mean, I would still buy additional tickets, but I would be annoyed for sure.

I'm just going to be that little extra voice right now reminding people to be very careful about mentioning anything about ways to possibly circumvent the guidelines. It's against the rules to discuss or even joke about ways to do it and I don't want to see anyone get in trouble. Not that anyone has done it yet here, just this seems like shakey ground and it's easy to forget yourself when speaking casually.

I have zero doubt they'll be checking our IDs at the gate to verify we're eligible to use the tickets we have in hand. I only see using our billing zips and any other methods at time of purchase/reservation as a first line of defense.

It wasn't said in a conference. He is quoted in the article. Seems he spoke to the press about it.(?)

But Tuesdays and Thursdays tend to be the days, although they have largely stopped live streaming them.
