Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

After watching that conference today, everything in Newsom’s whole stance just screamed ‘nope, not happening!’ when it comes to reopening procedures. I can’t imagine being someone who’s livelihood depends on this watching these conferences, I found his demeanor to be very cold when it came to the question of supporting the laid off cast members.. 😢

Trying to tread lightly around the elephant in the room (all these darn politics!), I saw in the Mice Chat update they think that Trump testing positive was going to change the dynamic for COVID in general by moving towards more restrictions.. not less. Basically, they think Disney should just take what they can get and push for more later. But maybe that offer is off the table now?

Either way, WDW here we come!

I wouldn't go that far. Even if they reopen there will be capacity restrictions at DTD, so this would help spread out crowds. I think they just saw an empty space and long lines at DTD, so might as well use it.

I wonder if Soundstage 17 could eventually be used for some kind of small food fest event, too? I know we've done AP events there, an interactive trick-or-treat trail at last year's OBB, Olaf's snow fest thing (which had snacks and drinks and "snow!"), and that they hold catered events there -- so it's possible to have food in that building. And there is the courtyard area in front of the building that could be blocked off so that guests couldn't roam further into DCA. Hmmmm.... I know we'd buy tickets!

OMG, my brain is fried, watching California press conference on Facebook, CNN on my TV and then need to switch to Irish TV in 30 minutes for Irish press conference. yikes information overload
If you are feeling well enough for all that -- which I don't know if I could handle on a regular day -- then your recovery must be going well! That is good news which I hope is true! Go treat your fried brain to a treat which you can now eat. :)

Fun fact for the day: The actress in the original Mervyn's commercial who made that phrase famous is the same person who voiced the original soundtrack for Luigi's Flying Tires. :) I don't know if she's the same person on the current soundtrack. You can find her and several other great voice actors on a panel in a video from one of the D23 Expos, Broadcasts from Buena Vista Street. She might also be on the radio show that plays inside Oswald's.

That fact put a smile on my face! How cool is that!

This MP article is about the D23 panel. The actress is Candi Milo, whom you probably know from so many things! Enjoy!

Posting DIS Guideline #5 as a reminder for everyone posting here and on this board in general. Please keep this in mind when posting in this thread, on the DLR boards, and on other DIS boards:
5. POLITICS/RELIGION
Because of the large number of complaints of personal attacks related to these subjects and inability for many people to keep a civilized conversation when discussing these hot-button topics, politics and religion will no longer be appropriate topics on our forums. Political or religion based posts or threads will be removed, and repeated violations of this rule can result in an infraction.

This doesn't mean that political news or facts can never be mentioned here. Clearly, these things have been posted throughout the 300+ pages of this superthread. But please remember that there is a big difference between posting these facts and news updates vs. venting/ranting/disparaging/preaching/insulting/trolling/etc. with this same information. Just about everyone here understands the frustration and the anger. There is no need to lash out or dump on anyone. It is possible to show respect when we disagree with people, both with people here and people in the news. A little grace can go a long way toward saving sanity.
Now, back to the game!

I read this as if one park opens, they all open. No one is left behind.

So if one goes bankrupt, they all go bankrupt....
I don't understand what the "equity system" is that the governor kept referring to.
Awesome! He finally addressed the equity matrix, something that's been on all of our minds for months. One thing, though: what's an "equity matrix?"
Here is the official explanation for the Health Equity Metric for CA:

CA's Health Equity Metric (part of the Blueprint for a Safer Economy):

Blueprint for a Safer Economy
(https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/COVID-19/COVID19CountyMonitoringOverview.aspx)
California has a new blueprint for reducing COVID-19 in the state with revised criteria for loosening and tightening restrictions on activities. Every county in California is assigned to a tier based on its test positivity and adjusted case rate for tier assignment including metrics from the last three weeks. Additionally, a new health equity metric will take effect on October 6, 2020. In order to advance to the next less restrictive tier, each county will need to meet an equity metric or demonstrate targeted investments to eliminate disparities in levels of COVID-19 transmission, depending on its size. The California Health Equity Metric is designed to help guide counties in their continuing efforts to reduce COVID-19 cases in all communities and requires more intensive efforts to prevent and mitigate the spread of COVID-19 among Californians who have been disproportionately impacted by this pandemic.

This sounds like they are trying to address low income or minority populations within an area. This may involve a county adding testing sites closer to those areas. I'm not sure what other resources they could use to address that issue.

Maybe free or low cost medical clinics for those without insurance? Access to low cost/free PPE? I guess each county can decide what is most needed and where?

Also, maybe more attention paid to industries/jobs with high rates of infection within the base jobs (that are most likely to have workers in the targeted category) and enact some workplace reforms to enhance their safety. I'm thinking of things like health aides, workers in meat packing plants, etc.

So hopefully this new metric will help counties like L.A. move to less restrictive tiers? And that can only help the neighboring counties and (we hope!) encourage theme park reopenings.

Okay, I have been out of the loop for a few weeks. What is stage 17?
It’s this area in DCA near Monsters Inc. They sometimes put AP corner over there. Last year it was a trick or treat spot for the Halloween party.

They are opening it for shopping. But it sounds like you only have access to stage 17, not DCA.
