Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

WDW's requirements are actually pretty specific, and I expect to see the same at DL:

All face coverings should:
  • Fully cover an individual’s nose and mouth and allow the Guest to remain hands-free
  • Fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
  • Be secured with ties or ear loops
  • Be made of breathable material, either disposable or reusable
This excludes face shields, loosely wrapped scarves, Lone Ranger masks, Iron Man masks, etc., and would also seem to prohibit gaiters and bandanas, since they are not "secured with ties or ear loops". However, I wouldn't be surprised to see those slip through since they meet the other requirements. As a practical matter, I highly doubt Disney will get into the efficacy of valve masks or single-layer cloth masks. People around the country are getting assaulted just for trying to enforce existing mask orders; CMs are going to have enough of a job trying to keep something over everyone's noses without arguing about filters.
Disney Food Blog has the most current update on “face coverings” allowed at WDW:

“A Cast Member we spoke with said face shields are also an acceptable face covering since they cover the nose and mouth. They haven’t seen many folks wearing face shields, but they’re allowed.”

Which seems weird because face shields don’t protect others unless a mask is also worn along with the shield.

They definitely don't meet the posted guidelines, but at this point Disney will probably just be happy to have everyone put some barrier between their nose and the rest of the world, and that isn't going to fly off when making a sharp turn on the Incredicoaster.

What I got from Newsom this afternoon is he plans to reopen and reopen safely and will be punishing counties who don’t enforce the law by restricting funds. Here are direct screenshots from his press conference today. When he said we can reopen safely, I got a chill. Idk......I didn’t hear anything that would keep DLR from opening this August. Anyone catch info that I may have over looked/missed?

Also, in regards the to safe workplace guidelines in the first slide, I see a lot of that on Disney’s website for the reopening already. So I guess we wait and see.

Did he say when the new reopening process would start? Now?

I must confess. I placed a bet with my fiancé of when they would reopen and now I think I’m gonna lose!!!! ( I put July 23🤦‍♀️🙈) I’m almost positive he put sometime in August!

Hopefully as we watch WDW reopen we can see how their enforcement goes. Plus this week DTD is opening so hopefully the rules are enforced so they can remain open.

He was very caucus unfortunately. He only said, in response to a question, that it is “...safe to reopen...” but that’s all, and he said that it is safe ONLY if the guidelines are followed. He did reiterate the current guidelines for now, but he did not mention A timeline of any sorts.

I don't get to watch the live interviews with him. Has anyone ever raised the question about when theme parks are able to open in the Q&A portion?

I was always hoping for July 24, but I don't see that happening now. It won't give them enough time. I think August would be the earliest...

Unfortunately, no, not a single question about industries outside of the ones that are currently opening/ trying to open.

My bet is still on after Labor Day. I think he will wait out these three weeks, see if conditions are improving, and if they are, then allow restaurants and other things that were re-closed to re-open. I don't think he will give the theme parks clearance until he has a few weeks to see how that goes, especially since schools will start reopening around that same time.

September was my original guess before I started guessing all sorts of random dates (anything except 2021).

I feel like I'm in Vegas putting casino chips on every single number at the roulette table, lol.

I'm starting to get nervous that they're going to open right before our trip. I know that sounds counter intuitive, but I really didn't want to be there right when they first open - I wanted them to have time to work out the kinks!

I agree that they should not allow face masks without a regular mask also. The whole point is to protect yourself and others. I don't see Disney just giving lip service in order to open like some other business seem to do. Disney has a large security staff to enforce the rules and they should do it from the start or risk things getting out of hand. I guess time will tell but Downtown Disney opens to the public in 3 days.

My hope is that DL opens for Resort guests and select AP's (ones not normally blocked out in July) when the hotels were supposed to open on 7/23. Stay at that very limited capacity for a week and then open for other hotels, ticket holders and all AP's at the end of the month. In a limited capacity again of course.
