I don’t disagree but for out of state folks who had trips postponed and are juggling what decision to make or how far to push out their reschedule dates.... it’s hard not to want some indication of what Newsom will say about Disneyland.

And I do get that. I do. But given the current situation one shouldn't be making plans to do something until the announcement has been made that the parks are in fact reopening.

I also do not think Disneyland hotels should be allowing people to make reservations currently at all. I think that is the hardest part. Disneyland allows visitors to make reservations with no real indications that they are going to be allowed to open.

Based on WDW opening in Florida, I think the instant they get their ducks in a row and get an approval from Newsom they’ll go ahead and open. Florida’s cases are crazy and they’re moving along ahead with the reopening. (For better or worse...)

I think I lost track with everything but didn’t they get things ironed out with the unions?

It is very likely any announcement is going to be no new openings not a date of when theme parks are going to be allowed to open.

I don’t see how it can be anything good with regards to opening DLR anytime soon considering numbers and watch list and 3 weeks closed requirement once you’re on the watch list or whatever so maybe if I shut my eyes real tight I can ignore everything and pretend it’s ok. Like the cat does when it doesn’t want me to bother it

I think the union situation did get fixed. So now the only thing preventing the park from opening is the state.

This is my opinion, but if the theme parks had submitted their proposals earlier before the spikes, and gotten approved (b/c at that time Newsom was eager to reopen), I think they would've reopened still in the current situation. Granted the Newsom could've just shut them down like he did with bars and restaurants.

Originally we weren't even supposed to begin going into Stage 3 until July but as you said Newsom was very eager to get everything reopened. But weren't parks (Seaworld & Legoland) that did put in for approval to reopen early get denied?

Last I heard it was still only about 40% of the unions? And they are the ones that were lined up before Newsom said no.

I’m an optimist, but Disneyland is not opening anytime soon. Our increase in cases are nothing like Texas, Arizona or Florida, and if you actually dig in and look at the data, you can see where the hotspots are.... but given the mentality out here in California, I don’t think they’re going to pull a WDW and open. What will be interesting is what will happen if the death rate doesn’t increase over the next month. It’s not here in San Diego so far.

Legoland was one. I have a friend who works pretty high up in corporate, and they are struggling. They NEED to open. From what I’ve been told. Take with a grain of salt.

I agree with this, but getting the approval from Newsome is the sticking point. I hope I’m wrong and he surprises me.

Where we went wrong was the opening of bars, specifically, IMO. Bars, wineries, breweries....all should have been Phase 4, at the same time we collectively agreed that large scale events could return.

However, they have said repeatedly that house parties/gatherings are mostly to blame with the newest surge. People are just doing what they want, hanging out with others and not doing any sort of distancing or masks. This is how that ONE family ended up with 28 infected members. There is nothing we can do about these people. And they are acting irresponsible and then exposing others when they go about their normal routines.

I honestly feel like Disneyland would be a far safer place with all its rules and required masks than many open businesses right now. I went to Costco the other day, and although masks were being worn, the store was absolutely PACKED. There was no way to maintain distance in there. How is that any better than a theme park where you spend most of your time outdoors in the fresh air?

I agree with you . One of the county supervisors down here, Nathan Fletcher, said every outbreak we’ve had here has been tied to bars, indoor activities (I’m assuming restaurants) and large gatherings at private homes. There were several large gatherings at homes in our neighborhood yesterday for the Fourth of July. People just will not stay away from friends and family. One of my friends here said her niece has now exposed 20 members of their family after testing positive Friday, including 80 year old grandpa who has diabetes. They were all together for the holiday weekend in Ohio.

I agree with you . One of the county supervisors down here, Nathan Fletcher, said every outbreak we’ve had here has been tied to bars, indoor activities (I’m assuming restaurants) and large gatherings at private homes. There were several large gatherings at homes in our neighborhood yesterday for the Fourth of July. People just will not stay away from friends and family. One of my friends here said her niece has now exposed 20 members of their family after testing positive Friday, including 80 year old grandpa who has diabetes. They were all together for the holiday weekend in Ohio.

A recent report showed that AT LEAST 60% of new cases in the last 2 weeks can be directly attributed to gatherings outside of "open businesses and recreational activities." I.E. social get togethers in personal homes.

Another 20% are tied to nursing homes, prisons, and shelters.

The remaining 20% were attributed to open businesses.

Yep! I think part of the disconnect is that people think since they aren't at a business in public, it's safe. When we started to reopen, there was so much emphasis on being safe in high risk activities vs low risk activities out in public, but never any on activities at private homes.

Really wish they’d spill the tea on which grocery store is having issues. I don’t really go anywhere else!

There will be some folk pushing the envelope of what we all should be doing collectively to get us all to a better place. Unfortunately it's a high 'me' society factor at this moment (cloaked in the concept of individual rights)-- even in the happiest place on earth utopia is a difficult concept to embrace.

Now face shields can be bought on Amazon. I use one at work, so I picked some up for my teenager and I. If she wants to drink, she can use one of her reusable straws and her face shield. They actually provide better coverage than a mask, are easier to breathe in, and you can slide your straw under! So we'll be dragging both along. I like to be prepared.

On the other hand, if cases are going to surge regardless, why not open? I mean, it's pretty clear that even without theme parks open, the virus is spreading. Kind of seems like anything short of a full lockdown, stay at home order is pointless right now, without an enforceable mask mandate in place. Since Disneyland is going to be strict about masks, its opening shouldn't pose a problem.

Sadly, I somewhat agree with this. The reality is that many people just refuse to wear a mask, and that is why this continues to spread. A place like Disney, instuting safety precautions like masks, distancing and only so many people allowed sadly will be one of the businesses striving to provide a safer environment. The employees cannot afford to stay on unemployment forever- as I know myself, with the supplemental money ending at the end of July, unemployment alone does not cover many bills. I highly doubt that all people have savings to help them for an extended time, and they need that paycheck and as safe of an environment as possible to work in.
In an ideal world, people would follow the rules to protect others, the curve would stay low, and employees could all sit at home and wait this out. But unfortunately, it just isn't going to happen, and we have to hope for good businesses like my company and Disney to keep us safe as we hit the ground with the public once again. As fans, we can help by being respectful of the rules whether we agree or not and showing some extra respect and thank you's for the CMs!
