Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

I was just quoting what Nathan Fletcher said earlier this week. That part was not reposted in your post.

Really wish they’d spill the tea on which grocery store is having issues. I don’t really go anywhere else!
We always find it interesting as to how the Supervisors choose to share the County info. Then, as soon as their press conference is over, the County texts out the actual compilation of facts.

They won’t release any names of businesses with cases. I would think it could assist with contact tracing but it’s detrimental to release names, they say.

We live a block from Del Sur Town Center and Starbucks inexplicably was shut down last Sunday and then reopened the next day. We were guessing deep cleaning occurred during their unexplained closure because every other business in the Center was open. I guess Starbucks or any business doesn’t have to divulge that info. Disney never explained why some of the Disney DSprings stores were closed for a few days right after the reopening.

Now face shields can be bought on Amazon. I use one at work, so I picked some up for my teenager and I. If she wants to drink, she can use one of her reusable straws and her face shield. They actually provide better coverage than a mask, are easier to breathe in, and you can slide your straw under! So we'll be dragging both along. I like to be prepared.
That’s an excellent idea!!!!! Will be getting a pair as well!
Just a reminder for anyone deciding to bring face shields to the parks when they reopen: Disney has stated that they will be requiring face masks (with ties/ear loops), so don't forget to pack those along with the shields!

For everyone participating in this thread: Please keep your posts on topic. The scope of this thread is pretty broad, so please try to keep the discussion related to DLR and the reopening in some clear way. Thank you!

I thought we had a nice and respectful convo going.. bummer to see it all just deleted like that. I think it’s impossible to talk about DLR speculation without also discussing the virus because that’s the whole reason it’s closed ya know? And hearing specific insight from those in CA is interesting... I know we’re directed to the community page for just general virus discussion but I think some of us feel safer over here. 😉 Plus I think we’re all more focused on what’s going on in CA bc of Disneyland.

Just my opinion if it’s cool to share it.. 🤗

The problem isn't "discussing the virus" per se. The problem is when people take the discussion (which, so far, has been clearly related to the situation in CA and related to DLR's reopening) and decide to run with it by expanding and expounding on their personal opinions about the virus and current public health policy. That is not the purpose of this thread or this particular board. There are other threads on other boards for those discussions. This has been repeated over and over. There is no need to go through that again. The problem post was deleted. The posts quoting that post were deleted. If people can post updates on the virus stats in CA while making it clear how the information relates in some way to DLR's reopening/not reopening, great. Clearly, many people have been able to post the information that way since the discussion appears to be moving along just fine.

No one said that the discussion wasn't "nice and respectful." It just started getting a bit off topic (even in a thread with a very broad topic range). So now the Broadway comments have their own thread (party on!). And the virus comments can get back to focusing on CA (mostly Southern CA), in relation to DLR and the possible reopening.

I’m going to guess based on the restrictions on indoor dining from Newsom we won’t hear any Disney updates after that three weeks is up. That gives him time too to see how the cases go. I’m gonna throw a dart at the board and guess we’ll get some news by the end of July.

Hoping and praying and also probably pushing our September trip back... again.... 🤪

I find it odd that Disney has not been more specific about what kind of masks are allowed or not allowed. For example, are masks with a valve allowed since they do nothing to stop the spread unless someone puts a filter in and how is security supposed to know that ? I also see many people wearing a 1 layer gaiter or scarf ,is this enough to comply with their rules ?

I read that the county has decided not to publicize the businesses because they are afraid that if they do, it will deter businesses from reporting cases/outbreaks.

I bet if Disneyland ever has an outbreak, they’ll announce it though. Just to stay on topic. Sorry, I replied before seeing mod post.

This is what I’m really curious about- how this will be handled. It doesn’t make sense to shut the whole park down for a day in response unless that’s why we see the reduced operating hours to give more time for cleaning to deal with things like that?

Don't worry -- this issue is on topic. I'm not sure Disney would announce an outbreak, based on what happened recently at Disney Springs. Maybe it would depend on the type and location of the incident? The DS stores closing was mentioned previously in this thread (ask @hiroMYhero about it). Several stores shut without notice or explanation. I assume they have since reopened. The supposed explanation was that someone might have tested positive and a deep cleaning was necessary. But no announcement was made.

I would assume that more detailed information might become available after the state releases the theme park reopening guidelines and after Disney can finally announce a second reopening date. Right now, things are so indefinite/pending that mask details don't seem to be a priority. It's enough that Disney makes it clear that masks will be required. Period. (Details to follow!)

Yes, I think everyone going to Disneyland has to assume there’s risk for COVID.... everywhere I go I assume there’s a risk. Regardless of whether or not it’s announced if there are cases at those businesses. But an unannounced shut down of a place is kind of a giveaway!

That’s interesting about Disney Springs.... possibly employees testing positive?

Probably depends on the outbreak.... if an employee tests positive in a store, close the store. Deep clean. Reopen. If it runs through a hotel or a restaurant, maybe a longer closure? I dunno. 🤷‍♀️

During one of the LA mayors updates, he did mention something along the lines of having multiple cases at a place of business will get you shut down. This is part of the reason contact tracing has been hard as people don’t want to admit if they got it at work and get their job shut down. So maybe in the case of Disneyland it will depend on how many people test positive?

Unless I'm missing something I get the impression the same mask rules will apply in both Downtown Disney and the parks. Even if this is not the case they should be more specific when it comes to mask rules for Downtown Disney. Who wants to show up with something not allowed.

WDW's requirements are actually pretty specific, and I expect to see the same at DL:

All face coverings should:
  • Fully cover an individual’s nose and mouth and allow the Guest to remain hands-free
  • Fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
  • Be secured with ties or ear loops
  • Be made of breathable material, either disposable or reusable
This excludes face shields, loosely wrapped scarves, Lone Ranger masks, Iron Man masks, etc., and would also seem to prohibit gaiters and bandanas, since they are not "secured with ties or ear loops". However, I wouldn't be surprised to see those slip through since they meet the other requirements. As a practical matter, I highly doubt Disney will get into the efficacy of valve masks or single-layer cloth masks. People around the country are getting assaulted just for trying to enforce existing mask orders; CMs are going to have enough of a job trying to keep something over everyone's noses without arguing about filters.
