Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

I read that for California the cases are beginning to plateau...but we still have to get through Christmas and New Years.
Yea, it will be interesting to see what happens after the holidays. Hopefully it doesn’t cause another surge. I know personally, we are still gathering for Christmas but will be masked and outdoors. Hopefully people gather safely should they choose to gather. We need to get the numbers back to a low and controllable level so people can salvage what is left of their livelihood.

i will be interested to see what the numbers look like this afternoon when they are released by the state. Hoping for better but also worried for the coming weeks due to the next holidays. We will be spending another holiday at home just the 3 of us to do our part.

Yeah I’ve been staying close to home. Last time I went “out” was DTD the Saturday after it opened. I mainly just do the grocery store and barre for exercise. I saw on the forecast it might rain this weekend. Maybe that will cause people to stay in? I’m also hoping the vaccination of healthcare workers helps the hospital situation

i stay close to home. Grocery store, target, and cvs are the main places I visit. I was last to downtown Disney right after Halloween. I kind of want to go over and look at some of the holiday stuff on sale, but not sure if I will or not.

Metrics are out for the week and it is just going from bad to worse it seems like. This is from the state site with the breakdown on the numbers.

OC:
  • 78.1 new cases per 100k (adjusted rate 51.8 for tier assignment)
  • 15.2% positivity rate (22.7% health equity quartile positiv rate)
LA:
  • 106.0 new cases per 100k (adjusted rate 53 for tier assignment)
  • 14.3% positivity rate (20.7% health equity quartile positiv rate)
For the state overall, 80.7 cases per 100k and 13.3% positivity rate. 1.4% ICU availability. OC is pretty in line with the state as a whole. stay safe my Disneyland friends!

Well my Jan 8 VGC reservation officially vanished today.

Hmmm, I wonder if it's worth holding on to my mid-February reservation. I'm sure DL won't be open, but I would still consider going if VGC is open. On the other hand, my points expire end of May, so the longer I wait, the fewer options I will have available to use the points.

Yeah I thought I only had a few points that would expire, so I was surprised when all 44 werent able to be banked. Eek! I was able to switch them into my Memorial Day stay, but if that doesn’t happen.... I’m toast.

My 1/14 also cancelled today. Sigh, these are Feb banked UY points that I was just trying to use up. 12 banked and 5 borrowed at risk (although I believe the 5 will be moved back to 2020) of being lost if it does not open. Tried to booked a later January date, but getting the 7 dwarves and rex. Will try again later or call. All dates after 1/15 in January show availability for the studio.

I have a Feb 5 reservation that hasn't been cancelled yet that I'd like to bank the points from and move them to a November reservation once I know for sure, but we'd go if the resort was open so I'm not quite ready to pull the trigger yet.

VGC owners should write to Terri Schultz (terri.a.schultz@disney.com) to voice their opinion and options for owners unable to use their points for an entire year at their home resort.

I wrote her and she (or rep) responded that they are finalizing options. It was unclear what they were, but I gave my opinion.

A voucher for GC would be appropriate balance of not draining point demand on future DVC stock while also filling the hotel with loyal customers -- or open the hotel rooms on the same wing when VGC reopens ahead of GC and allow usage there for expiring points to be used. Being creative with leveraging GC rooms when in this bind.

I wrote her back in October (December UY) about my points issues. And she had someone from the supervisor line call me back specifically to discuss. They late banked points that had been stuck on a November reservation and then extended my 10 VGC points and put them on my March WDW reservation. And actually also extended 2 AKV points I had left over too, but those are going to expire end of Feb (I was ok losing the 2). My January reservation is on my February UY and is AKV points. Not sure if I will be able to convince them to extend those (would be 12). I would not try to reuse at VGC and at that point would want to use on my Sept/Oct reservation at AKV for the 50th and doubt they would extend that far out. I have the phone number of who I spoke with a few months ago, so I could always try calling again I guess. They definitely need to do something with VGC though. I have my 100 VGC points for 2020 that just came active 12/1 plus 80 banked points. I have some on a July reservation for the anniversary (need to adjust to ensure all banked from the various contracts used first though since booked at 11 months and not all points banked at that point based on the November reservation). I would be willing to take a regular hotel room if the points were in line with the villas points.

I'm in LA, which has basically been the "problem" area of California the entire time. Everyone seems to be following rules with masks and distancing, so I'm not sure there is more to be done...In regards to the shutdowns, I wish it were more targeted. For instance, if a certain business isn't following protocol, they should close, not an entire sector. I really wish the closures weren't so sweeping as it is forcing people indoors or to rebel. Even though it may look bad for places like theme parks to be open, at least if people go they are following strict rules.

I've known of 4 people (2 friends and 2 family members) who have had the virus. Thankfully they all had very mild cases and are totally fine. I work from home. But outside of that I only really go to the grocery store and my outdoor barre class. Many of my friends work in healthcare so they are being super careful and not hanging out as they have a high exposure risk.
I completely agree that there really isn't any more to be done. It feels to me that this is as good as it's going to get. I've always had the stance that what's done is done and we can run but we can't hide. It's a scary time and I hate it for everyone. I'm grateful to be in an area that seems to be getting back to normal. We were a hotspot for a while but most everything here is reopened and masks are pretty much at your own discretion. I was just in Tennessee for Christmas and there was minimal social distancing in Gatlinburg and restaurants appeared to be business as usual. I know of several people who have had mild cases. My best friends father is in his 80's and had lung surgery 2 months before testing positive. He said he just felt like he had a cold. His daughter and son in law had it and they said the same. I've not heard much more by way of complaints in my area thankfully. No one in my immediate or extended family has gotten it. Prayers for all that have lost family and friends. I know I'm extremely blessed that it hasn't hit close to home.

The day I dreaded has finally come: the day my mom's and my APs disappeared from my app. I know they will get extended since that's what I requested for us both, but it still hurts to see them gone :sad1:

I am definitely going to cry the first time I set foot on Main Street again whenever that may be. Until then, I'm staying home within my region. Stay safe, everyone

I definitely got a little verklempt when I walked into DCA last month. Just setting foot in one of the parks, even if not at its full function, meant the world to me.
