Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Not that I am surprised at all (who are we kidding, I was expecting it), my VGC reservation for 1/28 was cancelled. Looks like I could book 1/29 and later, but at this point, I assume those will be cancelled too. These points are banked Feb 2019 UY AKV points, so looks like those will be lost come 2/1. I tried hard to use them, but looks like those will be gone.

Also posted on the official thread.

We cancelled our Feb reservation and moved to April. I have little expectation that DL will be open, but I would consider going if VGC is open anyway, we'll see.

I like the chances of it being open in April. Once this spike subsides and a few million Californians have the vaccine there is a strong case to open.

Hopefully the vaccine rollout speeds up. Things are going just painfully slow. But maybe because I’m (like everyone else) losing my marbles haha. Here in CO the regular population won’t be getting it until summer.

I think it’s just impossible to even speculate at this point until things start improving out in CA. Which I pray will be soon!

We have a DVC reservation at the Grand Cal for late June. There is still a small block of rooms available in Florida if we want to use our points there, but probably won’t last much longer, and we have to stick to those dates because of work. Does anybody think Disney will be legally going after California once the case rate comes down and numbers get closer to that red/orange tier? I’m confident under the current metrics disneyland will not be to yellow by June, and I don’t see newsom changing his stance. And even if they do re-open in the summer, important dates like 4th of July and Disneyland’s birthday, that they would probably shoot for, would be too late. Is it worth rolling the dice on Disney’s legal team, or would you just book the room in Florida while there’s still a chance? Thanks!

I just moved my June trip from DL to WDW, so I guess that sums up my lack of optimism. I think if Disney was going to make a case against the state, they would have already done it.

I would not rest my hopes on 1) Disney bringing up a lawsuit and 2) Disney actually prevailing in a lawsuit, especially seeing what is going on in California right now. My suggestion would be to go to Florida if that is something you are considering. The only hope of DL opening is if the numbers get dramatically better.

No. As it is now Orange County has to be in YELLOW to reopen the parks. I don’t see this happening until at least the fall. If you want a safe bet go with WDW.

it’s worth noting that those tiers were made in a pre vaccine world. It would be madness for California to stick to those parameters when we would in theory have a few million of our most vulnerable vaccinated by May.

With that said, madness and California go together like a horse and carriage.

California is essentially wrapping up assisted care and medical personnel vaccinations this week. Moving on to +75 and essential workers next - but this is a big group. No mention of tiers or color charts at all today. That's where we are...

A LOT of things have changed since the tiers were introduced, but even back then, the Gov himself repeatedly stated that the tiers would be in place "until we have a vaccine available." So, I don't expect to see the tiers remain in place too much longer. Perhaps once we get beyond this holiday crush of cases, and things improve, they will announce how we move forward.

And not to get political, but there is a LOT of pressure on Newsom now to get a handle on several issues before March, so I expect to see some changes going forward.

And by the end of this week vaccines distribution is going to start exponentially increasing. Specifically in LA county the largest covid test site at dodger stadium is closing after today and will be a vaccine distribution center starting on Friday.

Yeah, I could see tiers get scrapped if they can get the vaccine moving. If you see improving COVID numbers along with rapid vaccine administration, I would think they would be "a little" more flexible (but I don't think he will be ever be Florida).

Why if the case numbers and positivity rate is still within those ranges? In the end that is what matters. Yes the most vulnerable of the population may be vaccinated by May but what about the rest of the population. My opinion, which I know a lot here don't agree with and that is fine. Disneyland needs to stay closed until such a time when case rates aren't out of control, like they are now and were back in July.

My best guess is that Disneyland will open October 1st.
