Not exactly a detailed answer, but stay tuned...Slightly off topic, would Knotts still be able to operate then? I’m worried about my Merry Farm ticket...technically it’s takeout..

Your grandson will be a great age for the SD Zoo and for a first trip to DLR. I agree with the pp about planning the trip for as late as possible in the year -- the later you can plan it, the better your odds will be that both the zoo and DLR will be open and running closer to "normal." And whatever your trip plans, make sure that everything is fully refundable! (And don't listen to those CMs -- they're not getting their information from DLR, that's for sure!)... I am really just wondering if even thinking about putting Disneyland and San Diego Zoo, on the list is even realistic?
...
So my question is should we put Disneyland on the table or take it off ?
Thanks...
When are you thinking about going? I think anything early in the year will be dicey, but second half of the year is realistic IMO. The later you can make the trip, the more likely DL will be open.

Also a DL manager telling CMs to move on is also just an opinion. A manager would never tell that in earnest as a reflection of what the company thinks will happen or can do. Maybe the manager wants to leave himself, maybe the CM who asked wasn't doing a good job and the manager wouldn't want him back. As an outsider, there is no value in any opinion.I know he would like the zoo for sure, and he loves Disney's already, Thanks to his Mimi, getting him started young. Depending on what happens, in the next few month. What other things should we consider adding to the list ?... I think that we would only be renting a car for a day or two.. Just so you know we are not commando travelers, pool time, and down time is very much part of our vacation strategy ...
Two of the CM's that we know were both moved/transferred here from Disneyland... and they have lots of friends still that did work for Disneyland. All of them work behind the scenes, like in accounting, or new projects, or where-ever else. They both were saying that their friends(CM's) that are laid-off asked their boss if they should move on, or try to wait it out..and the answer was move on... that it was starting to look like it may be years before Disney in California re-opens...[mod edit] Again this was just a conversation, and their opinion on what is going on in California... So I look at it that way, just people voicing their opinion.
I do so hope that they are wrong, and Disneyland will be opening soon, so that the CM's there can all get back to work...
We were talking about late May ( once school gets out), November ( Week of Thanksgiving) December (During School break) - We thought about summer even, yet I know that is peak time, Like here at WDW...
We have talked about renting DVC points and staying at the Grand Californian for this trip, so that we should be able to get into the parks... We would want a 2 bedroom, so that's another thing that we have to look at. So that everyone can kinda spread out, and have some privacy, or else we would have to have 2 rooms for sure... When we visited before, we stayed off site, and we were pleased how easy it was to get back and forth. the hotel offered buses on the hour... While staying off site would be okay, and most likely much more cost effective , I'm not sure that something like this would even be available, or open. Or have buses running... so something else to add into the equation.

There is no news yet that staying at the hotels will guarantee you entry above staying off-site (unless I have missed something). It is what is expected, but not sure yet. Who knows by the time DL is ready to reopen and a significant part of the visitors is vaccinated, it will open at 50% instead of 20% (These figures are made up). The higher the capacity % the likelier the chance that off-site hotels and on-site hotels will be treated as equal as there aren't that many hotel rooms at DL. I do not know a lot about DVC, but I wouldn't do anything till you know more.
Yes, plan your milestone birthday trip, only keep in mind that you might not celebrate it when you want it. Maybe it will be May, maybe summer, maybe December. I would keep both San Diego Zoo and Disneyland on the list, together with a back up plan.
Given your main reasons for planning a DLR trip, I think your decision is sound. Keep an eye on this thread and on the Official Reopening Superthread on the main Disneyland (California) board. That will keep you up to date with what you need to know, e.g. official reopening dates (when they are announced), Disney requirements, CA requirements, etc. And you'll get the updates on when/how the parks begin to return to "normal" so that you'll know better when to start planning your trip and what to include. And putting your plans on hold also gives you the advantage of reading trip reports here when they start to be posted. Those will be very helpful for your planning.DH and I talked about it, most of the weekend and tried to come up with the short list... and while we still want to go and do a family trip to Disneyland, we decided it was off the table... for next year... One main reason is that fact that we would be going for Disney... and worrying about whether we could get into the parks, what would be opened while we are there, just to many variables, to even think about California at this point. Another reason we took it off the short list... is the news report, We have pretty much stopped watching the news, for varied reasons... DH and I were waiting on the local weather report, which in Florida changes every 5 minutes...LOL, when we saw where California was under lock down again... Sending hugs and prayers, and pixie dust to all the Diser's effected by this... Hoping that everyone is staying safe...

Keep watching this thread, too: DLR REOPENING SUPERTHREAD (DL & DCA TBA; VGC POSTPONED; DTD OPENED 7/09/20 & BVS 11/19/20): KEEP CHECKING FIRST PAGE FOR OFFICIAL DLR UPDATES!I'm watching this thread, and will be keeping a eye on things... Pixie dust away...

That thread has the official news (no rumors), so it will keep you updated on announcements from Disney and from the state of CA.
The first page is updated whenever any official announcements are made. So you only have to run down the first page looking at the dates in red at the top of each post -- if the date hasn't changed since the last time you looked, then there haven't been any big announcements. If the date has changed, read through to see how many announcements were made since you last checked. And then go over the last few pages just to make sure you haven't missed anything you think you need to know. Easy!I appreciate this, I will be on the look out...
So OC is still going the wrong direction!!! Just checked the state site for weekly numbers and updates.
OC:
LA:
- Positivity Rate = 10.6%
- Cases per 100K = 30.3 (both regular and adjusted case rates
I can't believe 2 months ago we were looking towards orange and now it is worse than it has ever been. And how fast it is skyrocketing.
- Positivity Rate = 8.7%
- Cases per 100K = 41.8 (26.9 adjusted for tier assignment)
