Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Does anyone know if any CMs were still called back beginning the 28th? I haven’t seen any updates on if that is on hold along with the reopening.
I’ve only heard about the ones working in downtown Disney. But I didn’t hear it on DIS I heard it on Facebook.

I would fly there and rent a car just for this. I'm not kidding - I had a dream about dole whips last night. I'm getting desperate!

Do you have a Menchie's nearby? DD went for the first time recently and texted me they have Dole Whips! I haven't been yet, but it's on my list.

this actually isn't a bad idea plus I ou can get points for the DL pass in the meantime. Looks like I'll be switching to my credit card.
Excellent call! Especially in light of the next stage in this sorry saga of WDW APs...

7/4 Holiday Update:
Some people got refunds.
Others were charged. Again.

WUT?! Yes, we have one down the street! I'll have to see if they're open, and if they have dole whips!

I can't imagine them recalling CM's when the opening of the park is so up in the air right now. Seems like an odd thing to do.

even in the happiest place on earth utopia is a difficult concept to embrace.
I’m not looking for utopian perfection, but some basic common sense and applied pandemic street-smarts would be nice... Unfortunately, there will always be some people who consider outwitting anything that asks them to be considerate of others a sport or a challenge, without realizing that ultimately the only one, who will win all of those games, is the virus. 🦠

The utopia that Disney is attempting to achieve leaves out important components of the virus’ spread:

From LA Times today: “They said that the coronavirus is less contagious through the air than measles but that the risk of transmission goes up the longer air remains stagnant and the longer people continue to breathe it.”

I was always aware of aerosols during my career as a speech pathologist and reading the above quote makes me think of the indoor queues of MFSR, ROTR, Pirates, HM, Splash, and others.

I miss y’all and talking about Disneyland 😭😭😭😭😭

San Diego is going to be on Newsome’s hit list Monday..... anxious about what will close. I’ve only done outdoor dining once.... yesterday at our country club and I swear my throat hurts. (Psychosomatic. Hopefully) It’s seriously so anxiety producing for me.... we will be sticking to takeout 💯 even if the dining is 💯 outside. I’m not worried about surfaces, it’s everyone sitting around talking and laughing without masks. Even socially distanced it scares me!

I have decided that when Disneyland is open and safe, we are BUYING ALL THE THINGS. Those crazy expensive balloons on Main Street my kids don’t even ask for anymore bc they know I’ll say no, all the merchandise they want, dole whips, Mickey pretzels, EVERYTHING, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and whatever princess costume they want, bubble wands, candy, EVERYTHING. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Since having to cancel 3+ trips and knowing our deluxe APs expire beginning of October and there isn't any way we can go with the virus, I am planning for the best trip ever for 2021. My daughters and I are loving being able to focus on a trip that will have, but not limited to: Tea at the DLH, WOC dessert, shopping, shopping, shopping, club level, the list goes on! Wishing you the best of planning and hope all your future trips are magical!

I read on article on CNN the other day that talked about how the virus has recently mutated and become more contagious than it’s previous form and thus one of the reasons why we are seeing such an uptick in cases (along with the re-opening of course). The good news was that it doesn’t appear to have mutated in the way that it became stronger.

I think anywhere you have an indoor environment and people standing for any length of time will become a bit of a hot bed for potential infection. I’d be weary of standing in any queues at this time...

Luckily we had ROTR experience to work with -- I believe we're going to have a lot more of those for the rides instead of standby while fastpass flips over to the standby lanes using social distancing spacing.

It'll be interesting if disney installs fans blowing downward to create and downdraft indoors -- much like those stores when walking past the door blowig downward to prevent flies entering the store, same concept of air movement downwards.

Honestly, I don’t think it’ll even be open before September. When we first started talking about when will Disneyland be open I said not before 2021. I’m beginning to think that may still be the case. Our cases are expected to surge throughout the summer. Then if a “second wave” hits, I just don’t don’t know how Disneyland can safely open.

On the other hand, if cases are going to surge regardless, why not open? I mean, it's pretty clear that even without theme parks open, the virus is spreading. Kind of seems like anything short of a full lockdown, stay at home order is pointless right now, without an enforceable mask mandate in place. Since Disneyland is going to be strict about masks, its opening shouldn't pose a problem.

I see your point but don’t agree with it. I just think how much worse it’ll be with 100’s of thousands of people spending the day at theme parks.

I honestly think it is time to go back to full stage 2. My opinion we opened too much too fast. We weren’t supposed to be opening Stage 3 until about now. A slow thoughtful opening may have prevented the huge surge we are currently having.

So this is Disney OT, but I’m not really active on other threads, so I’m begging forgiveness 😝

My family watched Hamilton last night and LOVED it. We are huge musical theater nerds; it’s probably our favorite thing to do together as a family, maybe even more than theme parks. We had tickets this year for Ragtime, Lion King, and Hamilton—all cancelled, of course. And to my knowledge, no musical has ever been filmed and released straight-from-Broadway, rather than adapted as a (usually inferior) film. Although I’m sure a live performance would be even better, it was a huge treat to sit in our living room last night and watch Lin-Manual Miranda and his equally talented coperformers. (Daveed Diggs? OMG!!) Even my five-year-old was enthralled, though he couldn’t follow the plot and liked King George III the best 😂

Anyway, I know there’s been a lot of criticism of Disney’s theme park related handling of the pandemic, including from me. But the things they’ve been doing on Disney+ are really quite special. I understand that Hamilton was meant for a theatrical release next year, and, as *the most* in demand theatrical production in the world (and deservedly so), I have to think that Disney lost a lot of potential revenue by releasing it a year early by streaming service instead. Maybe I’m giving them too much credit and there is a secret profit here somewhere, but it really is just so neat and unprecedented, and I still can’t quite put my finger on why Big Corporate did it, that I wanted to give at least a little credit where credit is due. And to anyone who hasn’t watched it yet — you’ve got homework 😉
Looking forward to watching it! I promised my daughter we'd wait until she got back home to see it. She's in college and had some things to take care of with school so she's away for a bit. This is a crazy time, not knowing if she's going to be here or there and how long that will last. But anyway, she's a musical theatre major and all of her productions were canceled and she's been furloughed from work so she's been back home and we've been watching a lot of Disney+. It was my first time seeing the Star Wars movies, believe it or not! We've watched the original trilogy so far and all of the currently available Avengers movies. We watched the family sing-alongs. I'm grateful to Disney for doing this!

Where we went wrong was the opening of bars, specifically, IMO. Bars, wineries, breweries....all should have been Phase 4, at the same time we collectively agreed that large scale events could return.

However, they have said repeatedly that house parties/gatherings are mostly to blame with the newest surge. People are just doing what they want, hanging out with others and not doing any sort of distancing or masks. This is how that ONE family ended up with 28 infected members. There is nothing we can do about these people. And they are acting irresponsible and then exposing others when they go about their normal routines.

I honestly feel like Disneyland would be a far safer place with all its rules and required masks than many open businesses right now. I went to Costco the other day, and although masks were being worn, the store was absolutely PACKED. There was no way to maintain distance in there. How is that any better than a theme park where you spend most of your time outdoors in the fresh air?

I agree bars should not have been opened. Restaurants should have been outdoor only.

I think having bars and other entertainment venues allowed open led to people feeling that they could have house parties.

As far as spending most of the day outdoors at Disneyland I feel most of my day is indoors. Rides are mostly indoors, many queues are indoors, many restaurants and most shops are indoors. And I just don’t see distancing happening.

I'm with you here 100%. Disney is known for going overboard when it comes to safety. Do you really think they would open their parks if they didn't believe it was safe for everyone? IMO in a controlled environment like a Disney park you are less likely to get it than other places where rules aren't being enforced. Also people going to these theme parks know what they're supposed to be doing. Of course you'll get a few bad apples not following the rules but I think you'll get less than at most other places people congregate. Universal in Orlando has been open for a month and I haven't heard of a bunch of people who have gone testing positive for Covid.

That's so funny how different our days at DL are! I can't even think of 5 indoor attractions we do regularly. My kids won't do Space Mtn, HM, PotC, or IJ Our day is typically some combination of the following:

Big Thunder
Splash Mountain (50/50 inside/outside)
DL Railroad
Autopia
Casey Jr
Dumbo
Teacups
Tomorrowland Rockets
GRR
RsR
Maters JJ
Pixar Pal Around
Goofys Sky School
Silly Symphony Swings

The only indoor rides we do are TSMM, Soarin, and Small World. Sometimes Little Mermaid. One kid likes Star Tours and we do MFSR and Mr. Toad every once in awhile, but skip them most days.

We eat primarily at Plaza Inn, Pizza Planet, Rontos Roasters, Flos V8, Bengal BBQ, Hungry Bear, Rancho del Zocalo, and Smokejumpers Grill. We usually sit outside in the shade.

Like you, I find we are mostly outdoors too. Most of the places we like to eat have outdoor seating which we usually choose. While we do indoor rides, most of the lines are outdoors (HM, PotC, GotC, etc) and we usually maxpass it so the lines are short. I'm sure there is a way Disneyland can set up lines so they are mostly outdoors at most locations. A lot of our time is walking around outdoors and enjoying the sights and sounds of Disneyland. Our indoor time is usually quick, like getting on a ride and popping into a store.

I also agree with previous posters, that Disneyland is going to be a way more controlled environment, which may make it a little more safer than some other places. This is why I am okay with going when it opens. I know myself and my family. We will have plenty of masks and hand sanitizer on hand and will be using them along with frequent hand washes. But there is still risk in that and I recognize that.
