Disneyland Hotel -- How badly does it need refurbishment?

I feel the rooms needed a refresh/maintenance but I haven’t had major issues. I had one where the lightup heardboard didn’t work right (song was so messed up it was painful to listen to, nbd to an adult but if I’d had a kid it would have been a different story), all 3 of the rooms I’ve stayed in had small maintenance stuff like chipped paint in places, scratched dressers towards the bottom where suitcases/vacuums have hit them, but nothing big (beds were fine, no leaky faucets).

Sure. Sorry, wrote quite a novel there, so thanks for reading it, LOL. Basically, at DLH, the bathroom door opens to a room with the sink(s) and shower, and there is another door inside the bathroom to a small room for the toilet (a W.C). At the GCH, the sinks were outside of the bathroom, and the toilet and shower were inside. I prefer the DLH layout for getting ready while my family is sleeping. Also, DLH has shower curtains, and GCH has glass doors.
Haha because we prefer the GCH bathroom layout! We sleep/wake generally at the same time so having the sink separate from the toilet/shower makes getting the crew ready in the morning much quicker.

We stayed at DLH April 24 and didn't experience any problems. Of course, it was our fist time at DL, so we don't really have anything to go by. Here are some pix from the hotel:

...the carpet seemed to be vey clean:

Our room was beautiful. There was no sign of any need of refurbishment in our room and throughout the entire hotel and grounds.

My only complaint was that the walls are paper-thin. We had a crying baby next door to us, and basically everyone in our hallway were kept up at night by it. Eventually being overtired, wearing ear plugs, and sleeping with a pillow over our heads did the trick.

Otherwise, we really loved our stay there.

We stayed at DLH for the first time in August. It was really lovely. We were in the fantasy tower overlooking the hotel entrance. I thought it was a nice view! Plus we could see the fireworks, so that was unexpectedly cool. Like pp's photos show, the place is lovely, and you get warm fuzzies when the headboard lights up. By comparison, the Anaheim Hilton is in desperate need of a refurb. The rooms, while clean, look a wreck!

And it plays music like a music box, it's so pretty! My husband didn't know about it, so it was a neat trick on my part pixiedust: If your family doesn't know, don't tell them until you get there!

Edit: Oh, shoot! I didn't realize those were your photos! I'm so sorry you missed that feature! :sad1:

The DLH was gutted right down to its bare concrete and steel super sctructure a few years ago. I can't imagine that it would need any kind of renovation yet.

We just returned from a 6-night stay at the DLH. We've also stayed at the GCH but not since their renovation.

As far as the DLH goes, sure it could use some extra attention - there's plenty of scuff marks and beat-up baseboards. But it did feel very clean and comfortable. As the mom of a newly potty trained kid, having a separate toilet is always appreciated. The one thing that gets me every time we've stayed since 2009 is that the water that comes out of the sink taps in the Adventure Tower smells horrific. We didn't notice it in the Frontier Tower. We buy bottled water to drink in the room as well as to use to brush our teeth; I can't put any of the water in my mouth without gagging. The tub/shower is fine. We've complained and complained and the CMs tell us that's just how it is.

For my family, Paradise Pier is always out of the question. But given a choice between DLH and GCH, we will only choose GCH if there's a very small difference in price and that hardly happens. While we love the GCH it really (for us) is not worth the $700/night. Heck, we only paid $450/night this trip because it was our 10th anniversary.

Having lived in Anaheim for 5 years, that is true. LA water is just gross. Some places do better in terms of the amount of filters they use or the kind of filters. But when we lived there, we only drank water through a brita filter pitcher or bottled water.
