Disneyland Half Marathon 2024

Mine are first graders!!! I thought about trying but if things go haywire… either with Disney or my class (which both seem likely) it’d be a disaster!

Oh jeez! Yeah definitely not the same situation that I have and not easy to leave them to do their own thing while you try to get a bib. Good luck!

Yeah! Every May I go through this for dance recital tickets. But that I know is fairly quick, but I have to do it right on time. I can usually pep talk them into giving me 10 minutes and something to work on. But not this! Too many unknowns!

If I had to guess who could cause the most chaos, I would vote for Disney's IT.

Normally, I would say “of course the themes will be released before registration” but this is just so early that I have no idea what’s going to happen

They sort of have to right? Eventually they’ll update the page with race info, prices, etc, same with every race weekend.

I have low expectations for the theme though. Just the basics, maybe they do something for the 100th like I’ve seen speculated for WDW MW.

Info and prices, yes, but I doubt there’s any motivation for themes in the next couple weeks because it will sell out regardless. I may be one of only a few that would use that to decide.

They certainly don't have to. People seem to forget, or are too new to remember, that releasing themes prior to registration is a relatively new thing for RunDisney. I've been doing races since 2016 and it was routine to go into registration with absolutely no idea what the themes would be. I think they started releasing themes before registration around the time races began to return post-COVID.

I'd expect the themes to be released prior to registration based on the last couple of years, but they could easily return to previous practice and keep us hanging.

If there's a virtual component, they have announced themes before registration. But I haven't seen any mention of a virtual option for the DL races (yet). My guess, since this is their "classic" weekend and companion to WDW's MW, it will be the same or similar classic characters. Though I'm holding out hope for Oswald!

I'll be a little surprised if they don't bring back the Dumbo Double Dare to capitalize on the nostalgia.

I think this is what I was getting at- I know no one actually knows what’s going to happen, but I don’t have the historical perspective of what’s typical. Sounds like nothing is at this point

They gave a date for virtual registration in the original announcement

I totally missed that! But you're absolutely right. And I see on the site it says virtual registration opens February 17.

Registration opens February 7, 2023 for Club runDisney Gold & Platinum Members, February 14, 2023 for the general public and February 17, 2023 for all virtual events.

Since introducing the virtual races that are companion to IRL races, they've revealed those themes and artwork prior to registration. I wouldn't be shocked if we saw themes pop up on a virtual page before the 14th.

Finally chiming in on this board.... I'm so torn.... I desperately need to visit DL soon (I grew up there but haven't been since 2015!) and I run all 4 WDW race weekends, so I want to add this in too... but the week in between WDW MW and this DL weekend I have a huge work conference in Orlando, and it's exhausting (8 hours of CE sessions, dinners/events every night). Not ideal before any kind of race, but esp. with the cross country flight added in. Still.... I will try to register and see what happens. Maybe for the 10k first and then the half? (who am I kidding, these are all selling out in less than 1 minute).

Also, not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but do we think the new DVC tower at DL Hotel will be open by Jan 2024? That would be amazing.

Correct, and they seem to go up at totally random times. It's not like they all release at 7am. Super annoying, BUT DL restaurants are generally much easier to get than WDW, with a few notable exceptions.

Details on the Coast to Coast challenge.

Track one:

2014 DLR 1/2 and either 2014 WDW 1/2 or WDW Full (Dumbo Double Dare, Goofy, and Dopey do count towards this)

Track two:

2014 DLR 1/2 and one of: WDW Princess 1/2 or Fairy Tale, WDW Springtime Surpise 10-miler or any Springtime Challenge, or WDW Wine & Dine 1/2 or Two Course Challenge.

The two tracks will have different medals, but only one challenge medal can be obtained by a runner. No separate registration is needed, and the medal will be given at the completion of the second race automatically.

Virtual races do not count

Posted on the WDW thread but worth noting that they list four qualifying WDW race weekends (including Springtime Surprise’s Ten Miler!) but only one for DL. So we should assume that there’s only one DL race weekend planned for 2024. Maybe they announce others later but we shouldn’t expect it.

Confirmation of the return of the Dumbo Double Dare.

The two track thing is weird.

Marathon Weekend to Disneyland is being treated as its own challenge but you cannot also participate in track 2. Also it seems like Track 1 medal will change yearly but Track 2 won't?
