O.k. don't flame me please. I just got back from a quick 3 day jaunt. We haven't been to DL since July 05. Wow is it just me or has the food gone down the tubes? We always loved Rancho Del Zocalo, and this time is was terrible. I had kids meal soft taco... it was terrible, and DH had Chicken he only had 3 bites if that and said it was cold and aweful. Then we had dinner at Riverbelle Terrace and I had a turkey sandwhich and Dh had Ribs. Neither of us ate it all, but turkey Sand. Was not too bad. However both places the portions were small and prices outragous. We paid about $26 - $30 at both of the above places. We did breakfast at the Bakery on main street it was good, 2 muffins, 2 tea's for $12.00 a little high. And then we did lunch at Taste piolots grill in DCA. DH got a burger, I got chicken sand. 2 soda's was about $26.00. ANd if the food was great and portions were at least comparible with DIsneyworlds portions I wouldn't be complaining. And then we were so burnt out on how bad the food was and high it was we ate at Granvilles steakhouse at Disney Hotel. This was hands down the best meal of our trip. For 5 of us, DH, DS 7, my mom and dad and myself. We ordered between the 5 of us, one grilled cheese (DS7), 2 bowls of soup (me, mom) 2 steak dinners (DH, and dad) And soda's. Came up to $124 and it was well worth the walk and price. Best meal in all of DL hands down. We did breakfast at Carnation Cafe, really good but again for two egg breakfasts, and 1 croisantwhich, and kids mickey waffles (mom didn't go to breakfast) bill was $42. I can swallow that, at least food was good. ANd then the Kicker... we did lunch at Blue Bayou. Now as of the other day I would fight anyone into the ground that this place has the best food in all of disneyland. Well, I now have to say it was so so. Never thought I'd ever say that. DH and my dad had prime rib, neither finished it nor cared for it, me and my mom had Monte Cristo, it was o.k. (i've been eating these for like 17 years, they used to be great) and me and my DS7 split mine. ANyone know what happened to the pasta salad that was served with the monte cristo before? We were served a side of nasty!!! or better called some gross potatoes and veggies that were aweful. We were served soup or (gumbo) that was so spicy we never ate it. And by the way, what's the deal with the bread? They used to bring a basket of it to your table, now we were each given one piece and never offered more. The bread there must cost disney like $100 a loaf. ANyway for a bill that ran about $130, I wouldn't do it again. It was no good. And just a side note for Blue Bayou... we had a ressie for 1:00p.m. got there at 12:50p.m. and checked in, we were not seated until 1:40p.m. and that's after I yelled at the stupid hostess who somehow said (oh I forgot about you). NICE, all this for $130. I love DL, as a matter of fact we renewed our passes this trip as well, I guess I'm so judgemental casue we just got back from 2 weeks in WDW and we were treated like gold, always seated before our acctual ressie, always given tooooooo much food, all food including fast food was really good, and we were overall treated better. Just wanted you all to know about the food and service.

hah, i went there today... and paid 14.00 for a gumbo, a drink, and a cheesecake... and this is with my 20% off discount... i feel so robbed :P

That's the sad part of being a 'captive' audience. :guilty:

hen we had dinner at Riverbelle Terrace and I had a turkey sandwhich and Dh had Ribs.

I had the exact same meal for lunch a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was delicious. I had heard a lot about the poor quality of food at DL compared to WDW. I totally disagree. I was impressed with their counter service/cafeteria style food. Very good. And Disneyland has excellent pizza. The counter service pizza at WDW is awful.

We love DL and are frequent visitors but we were amazed at how much better the food was in WDW when we visited for the first time last year. Better service in the restaurants, bigger portions (too big for my taste!) etc. Maybe we were just lucky but we ate every meal in "the world" for the week we were there and didn't have a single bad experience! Now...we were on the meal plan so we didn't need to worry about the cost. My brother and his family went recently and all they can talk about is how much the food cost!

We were there last week and ate at Zocalo twice since we thought it was so good. We had the Chicken Caesar, Tortilla Soup, Beef Burrito, Enchiladas, Tostada Salad and the kids shared a bean and cheese burrito. Besides the kids meal, the rest of the entrees were huge.....definitely enough to split. The price didn't seem too bad to me....about $45(it's high, but hey, it's Disneyland-we expected that) for 3 adult entrees and the kids meal and a couple sodas. Sorry you had such a bad food experience. We also ate at Pizza Port one night....the pizza and pastas were good and large portions as well.

The only food that I know of that has gone downhill is Blue Bayou, they raised prices, changed the menu, and started making things smaller.

Other than that I haven't had any complaints. I leave tomorrow, so I'll let you know how our meals are. I also plan on taking pictures of everything for the food pics thread.

exactly...Ive never had any type of experience where the portions are really small...me personally, I dont like the food in BB and never have...there is some kind of spice they use in almost everything that doesnt sit well with my stomach...and you can smell it in the air when you get inside the seating area...the only thing I went there for was the MC and now I can get it in CO so all is good :goodvibes I know going to the park that the food is gonna cost and I dont fret over prices..in fact I try not to look at them...and I DONT calculate the prices before hand...to me if its going to upset me that much in regards to the prices then its going to take half the fun out of my trip and there is no way Im going to not have fun at my favorite place in the world...

I was just there, and one thing that I really loved was my bleu cheese burger at Taste Pilot at DCA. It was perfect! And burgers aren't my favorite, but this was just really good. We had thought about eating Mexican back at the place near the Mission tortilla thing, but I was so glad we went to Taste Pilot! :thumbsup2

I agree about the prices. I always go to the parks knowing it is going to cost a mint. Sure I don't like it but hey it is the nature of the game so that part I just know going in.

HOWEVER I have to agree about the food. For what you pay it should be better than THAT. After going to WDW DL's food frankly sucks. I wish we didn't have to eat it but most of the time once we are there we don't want to have to take the time to leave to get other food so we just deal with it but I would give ANYTHING if they could upgrade their food to WDW quality because we actually look forward to dinning in DW cuz it is sooo good.

I guess we all just enjoy different things. We've been 3 times in the last year (5 days, 3 days, and 3 days). Out of those 11 days we ate almost all meals (at least 2 a day) in the park. The only thing I didnt enjoy was the turkey sandwich at Riverbell. :teeth: It wasnt bad, it just wasnt great. The meat was too much like processed lunch meat. Not like good deli meat, but round peices of pressed smoked turkey. We bought the sandwich and a rib / chicken combo for 3 of us to share. We had food left over, so the servings were far from small.

I admit... we bring our own sandwiches and just pick up a drink and freins.. We used to love the chicken fingers and motzarella sticks. But ugh.. They are nasty now..

With the kids we usually just got to Mc D's at DCA. ANd us adults get a happy meal also..

Taste pilots is ok though I will agree. But then again we live near by so go for the atmosphere and not really the food. We will be doing a birthday there at the b-day celebration.. So I will let you know how that goes..

Sorry our family likes the DL food too! the fried chicken is better then Knott's famous chicken and we always get pleanty to eat! we love the burgers at taste pilots and hungry bear . This next trip we were finally going to do BB and know I am wondering if that will be a mistake.

You know, I was disappointed in the food on our most recent trip (last week) to DL too. I love the salad at the Taste pilot and they changed it. It had chicken strips instead of small cuts (so I had to peel it into pieces with my hands to eat with the salad) and no olives.

We ate burgers at the place by Space Mountain. I've never eaten there before, but they were horrible :sad2: Microwaved burgers at home would have been tastier.

To each his own.

I just wanted to put in a word about the Hungry Bear Rest-er-ahnt (spellling? :confused3 ). This is my favorite place to eat at Disneyland. I love watching the canoes go by (for how much longer I don't know with the changes coming to TS Island). It is cool, and there are always ducks for the kiddies to feed. I love the chicken sandwich. It is pretty big with a nice helping of fries. Add a drink and I am glad the bathroom is right there. The food is nothing special, but I love it. :teeth:

My family is not a big fan of the food at DL. We were VERY VERY disappointed at the Blue Bayou when we ate there. The burgers and fries, regardless of where you get them, are just kinda lame. Edible...yes. Good...not really.

The food is just.....eh-eh. For the price we pay, it should be better. We don't hate it or anything, but we sure don't look forward to it either. We love the junk food though. Popcorn, cotton candy, frozen bananas, Tigger tails, etc....YUMMY!

We have a themepark close to where we live called Silverwood, and I have to say, the food there is WAY, WAY better than DL (for standard theme park fare like burgers and fries). I mean, I have to say, it was actually GOOD...and I was surprised because after all we WERE at a themepark. I was expecting something eh-eh, but it was GOOD, so definately a surprise for us.

However, we LOVE the breadbowls you can get at the wharf over at DCA. They are very good! And the BEER! :thumbsup2

The turkey sandwich at Carnation Cafe is awesome. It is on pretzel bread with this really great mayo-mustard sauce on the side. Their potato cheese soup in great too. Also Storyteller's Cafe has the best turkey sandwich I have ever tasted. It's only available at lunch, not dinner, but it is made with real turkey breast, not lunch meat.

I think you should try some other places that have been suggested here next time. I love the Pasta at the Pizza Port, and the Sourdough breadbowls with Broccoli Cheese Soup in CA adventure are really really good.

Hope you have better luck next time!

I was really looking forward to BB, :confused3 would you all suggest that I just do Rainforest cafe? Are there any other PS places that I should consider? :moped: I am close to my 60 day booking window. :hourglass

Thanks :grouphug:

I would recommend Cafe Orleans rather then the Blue Bayou - similar menu, but cheaper. (And you can make a PS there, too.) You don't get the "ambience" of eating outside on a dark bayou night, at Cafe Orleans, though...but been there, done that, and it's really not THAT special in my opinion.

I'd avoid Rainforest Cafe - too noisy and crowded, and besides, you can find them other places than Disneyland. Storyteller's Cafe at the GC is good. If you like New Orleans type food you might want to check out Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen in Downtown Disney.

My mum and I were at DL last week for 6 days. We tried a few places in disneyland/DCA... Cafe Orleans, Blue Bayou, Bengal BBQ, Award Winning Weiners, Ariels Grotto and we even got corn dogs from the vendors.

We definately werent impressed by any of the food. So we always went off site to like Ihop, the Rainforest Cafe or Tony Romas, and it was nice, cause you either pay the same price as you would in the parks for a quick hot dog if not less, and you get a HOT sit down meal, which is beautiful on the feet when you've been walking all day, or to recharge you in the morning so you dont feel hungry for most of the day which saved ALOT of money.
