Disneyland Divas working out, getting healthy, and looking fine in '09!!

Good morning!

I put off running until last night and by the time it cooled down some...to 80 degrees at 8pm I was so unmotivated. I did everything to avoid going out, folded laundry, got the trash ready for trash day, watched the news, hung out on the DIS, complained that it was windy...finally I had to go and do something!

I decided that the least I would do was walk up hill for awhile. Well, I walked up the hill for about 15 min. and then decided to run for awhile...once I got started I kept going and I ran for 3.2 miles! I kept telling myself to run for 30 min. then when I looked at my watch I had run 37 min. so I thought run to 40min. my longest time to run in the past so I ran but for 43 min. I then told myself why not run a couple more min. for 45 min. For me it is becoming a mental game because I am finally not gasping for breath the entire time and my legs feel good for the most part. (I am still having issues with the sore muscle in my thigh but once I start running it loosens up). The hardest part for me now is mental and believing that I can run longer and farther.

I must drink more water and that is my goal for today and maybe I'll get a chance to break out an exercise DVD.

I hope everyone has a great day! Drink Water!!

So I got things going this morning......kinda
I didn't get up early enough to do any type of exercise & did start my day with a pepsi.....but I switched to water after that. I've drank one 24oz bottle & starting my 2nd one. Didn't get breakfast in, but have to start somewhere......by this time of day I'm on my 3'rd soda......so to me that is a good transition!!!

The most important thing is that YOU see the good transition! The 24oz bottle of water is promising as well! :cool1:

Now I just need to find a fun 5k to sign up for!

Babysteps...one small change will snowball into many, many more!

Go Vicki!!!:yay:

A 5k is actually 3.1 miles (I didn't know either before staring this running program)...so I ran just a tad longer. Not planned at all I was determined to run all the way home and was lucky I made it! :rotfl: A bigger motivator to run that far was the song 'I Run for Life' a Melissa Etheridge song that always reminds me of my friend Stephanie who died of breast cancer and it came on my Ipod just when I needed it. That song is so motivational and emotional at the same time so I ran for my friend.

Hanging in there still with just the water........I need to find a water bottle I like better than this one....but beggars can't be choosers!

That is a great beginning!!! Good work! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Thank you!!!!!

Congrats on the run today!!!! That's really inspiring what music can do for our souls.......what a great way to honor & remember your friend!!

Great song. I was there when she sang it for the first time. I'm a BC survivor (4 years). They invited some of us to a special concert at the Wilshire Ebell that was televised. It was so uplifting to hear her sing it because she's been there and she was singing it to us.

I am so sorry your lost your friend Stephanie. :grouphug:
I've lost some good ones too but I feel their strength behind me.

Now, I'm hitting the gym!

 and I am so happy for you! That is very cool that you were there! I would have been:sad1:if I had been there! It is a very great song and gets me everytime I hear it. And it's kind of strange but it always seems to come up on my shuffle when I need extra encouragment during running.

Maybe we can find a Susan B Korman walk/race to do together!

I do drink soda. I have 1 diet coke a day on the way home from work as my reward for making it through the day!!!!

Keep it up everyone, this thread seems to be helping keep me on track!!

That's gotta be better than a glass of vodka right? :lmao:

Vicki, that is SO amazing!! I cannot imagine running a 5K!!! Congratulations.

That is a really good start. The decrease in caffiene will get easier!! Just think of all the sugar you are avoiding.

Cristabel, you know I am a whimp--yes, the 1/2 a beer kind of gal. Diet coke is MY crack!!!

A bad day or two happens, but seriously --ugh gag, you ate that for breakfast. I know you are a college student, but YUCK!!! (can you tell I find hot cheetos to be inedible?)

But, put it behind you, and next meal, do better!! Please, for me, never eat hot cheetos for breakfast again. I think I have goose bumps.

Good luck getting to the gym, and I hope you feel better.

Oh Donna---I lost your quote...HUGs!

I went swimming today!! KInd of a broken record. I do plan once I get more in the habit of my workout to start to shake it up a bit. My pool is closed for a week starting this SUN---which totally stinks, it needs repairs, so I am hoping to make myself do the EVIL nordic trak we have glaring at me in the office. I actually got on it last week and went 20 minutes, so it is a possiblity.

Swam again 70 minutes, but went farther 2900 yards. My warm up was 1000 yards without stopping!! Yup, that is 40 lengths, 40 flip turns. I go again tomorrow!!

Thanks for all of the inspiration!!

40 laps is your WARM UP?
Dang, I used to feel good about myself when I swam 40 laps total with some stops and stretches. You are hard core. Remind me not to share a lane with you.

Oh, and...AWESOME JOB!!! :woohoo:

I met with my trainer today. He showed up like 10 minutes late and then didn't have a new program for me. Hmmm... Never pay upfront. Anyway, I have the same weight routine just less weight and twice as many reps to build endurance muscles or something. Don't understand, but I'll do it.

Now I need to sign up for the June 7 half marathon just one block from my house. Definitely easy travel. And parking will be no problem.

Ugh. I have got to get off this computer and finish packing. Have you ever noticed how attractive the DIS is when you are trying to avoid something?

It was only 20 laps, 40 lengths, makes it less impressive. But I am pretty hard core because since I am such a swimmer..it is kind of easy for me. I mean, I huff and I puff and my muscles burn and I am tired afterwards, but the actual act of swimming is kind of like walking for me. Natural and feels like I am in my element. Swimming competitively for 15 years as a kid will do that!!!

Now if I started doing spin class or running, or something out of my comfort zone, then I would be more impressed with myself!!!

But thanks. It is great exercise, I feel my cardio is getting better everyday!!

Amy

Maybe we can find a Susan B Korman walk/race to do together!

Sounds like a great idea - at some point. :goodvibes My trainer just said we have to watch this achillis tendonitis carefully. He doesn't want me to get injured and then I'll have a setback.

That's gotta be better than a glass of vodka right? :lmao:

Actually, you know how many calories are in a glass of vodka? Just 100.

Cristabel, you know I am a whimp--yes, the 1/2 a beer kind of gal. Diet coke is MY crack!!!

Yea for the nordic track and being flexy. Thank you, Amy, for the hug. :goodvibes

Everyone does this their own way. I'm here to support everyone who shows up. I'm a diet coke gal too. But for me, never more than one a day - and often less. I've started Crystal light, thanks to Amy (bigskyenurse), and I like Fuze lean. I'll also drink decaf iced tea and of course, water.

And I don't know what hot cheetos are either, but when I try to imagine, I feel a little sick.:scared1:

Amy of bigskyenurse, thank you also for the recommendation on muscle milk lean. Tastes pretty good for a protein drink. Also got some balance bars at costco (did I say this already?). These are good aids for me when I can't get to healthy real food.

Yeah, I pay as I go. Have a safe trip, Jen. I hope your son feels better.

That is wonderful! :cheer2:

I only had time to do either the elliptical or a class today. Since I hadn't been to a class for a bit, I did that. Today was the day the instructor decided to be really tough on us. So did 45 straight min of aerobics. zzzz

No no, I was equating lap to length. 40 lengths warm up IS impressive. It's good to see those 15 years of competitive swimming pay off. And this is an exercise that you can do quite literally forever.

Now I'm off to bed. I'd like to say I finished packing. I can't. I did watch Millionaire Matchmaker and some Oprah hook ups though. :rolleyes1

Little Nico is sleeping. No fever I can feel and no coughing. Pixie dust working so far...

Good luck everyone with check in tomorrow!

-Jen (with one 'n')

Checking in - I lost ONE measly pound! :sad2: Ugh! :headache: I have been sticking with 1200 cals a day and I even made this low cal margarita concoction on Cinco de Mayo! Oh well, I guess it was one pound and I'm not gaining! I knew WW was slow but this slow this early on?? It could be also the BC pill that my dr put me on to stop my irregular AF's, I had trouble in the past losing weight while on The Pill but really...

Oh well...I'll run tonight and continue to follow the eating plan because as Bridgette says it's about being healthy too, right?!?!

I hope everyone else had great sucess!!

Jen - Glad that hear Little Nico is feeling ok...safe travels today!

Congratulations on the loss! :cool1:
One pound is four sticks of butter! Not bad. :thumbsup2

As for me, good news...bad news.

Bad news is my weight is up. About a pound or two. Ugh. I didn't want to step on the scale but figured I should so I can have some sort of base to measure Disneyland damage this weekend. I'll just blame this gain on that time of the month.

Good news is exercise is going really well. Did the 1 hour 45 minute run on Sunday, two weight sessions, resistabands and other cardio. I just finished a 65 minute, 6 mile run this morning (mind you, those are Jen "round up miles," not Vicki mapmyrun.com count every step miles). Anyway, I have gotten my exercise out of the way and now can enjoy Disneyland.

Nico seems to be doing well. He woke me up at 6:30am with a huge smile on his face saying "is it time to go to Disneyland?" No fever. A few coughs in the morning, but seems fine now.

DH and I just have to put in a few hours of home office work this morning and then we are off! I'm about 80% packed and DH hasn't started.

CHECK IN LADIES!!

Happy weekend! :cool1:
And Happy Mother's Day! :flower3:

Well I'm just saying at least you're not going to beer as a reward, imagine all those calories! :rotfl:

It wasn't really breakfast, it was already 11am and I needed something and I really didn't want to have a muffin because those things are crazy high and the carbs are death! I know cheetos aren't a better alternative but I felt better about it.

Uh...what are hot cheetos? :confused3

They are spicy cheetos. You know what cheetos are right?!

Why do we beat ourselves up when we gain 1lb but when we lose one 1lb it's no big deal. I think we have messed up thinking!

Oh! For some reason I was thinking twice baked cheetos. Three hours to DL. I5 is boring
