Disneyland Divas working out, getting healthy, and looking fine in '09!!

It's all about being healthy! Whether you exercise or lose pounds, fat, inches, or gain muscle, health is the key. So I'm proud of you! :woohoo:

I'm glad you posted that. I was feeling like I wasn't doing enough to be on this thread since while I am doing better with my food choices, but I am not denying myself...

But, I am improving my cardiovascular health and likely losing some, and definitely toning.

I swam 70 minutes today, and it stunk. Never hit my endorphin groove, just lots of gasping, bubbling and awkward flip turns. But I kept soldiering on!!

I may get to swim tomorrow too, after work, if my Dh ends up going to Palm Springs to see his brother with the DD. No rush to get home.

So, been exercising for a big 3 weeks, it is a start!!.

Good luck on the weekend everyone!!!!

AmySue

AmySue, you know what? I truly mean it... with all of my heart. It is so hard for me to get in shape and thats why I find it so hard to become motivated to exercise. I have a hard time breathing especially so I rarely ever get into an endorphin groove either. If I peak the 20 min I'm lucky. Its usually about 10. Going forwards, mind you. Forget going backwards  I can manage all of 30 seconds before I feel like my butt is going to literally burst into open flames. :rotfl: I have an elliptical machine and I have it on a level 3 out of 20 which is less strenuous than walking in some ways.

I'm very proud of you. Swimming is harder than people think because its impossible to notice the we sweat like crazy when we swim... but we really do! Just keep breathing and keep on keepin' on being your brave self. You go! :woohoo:

OOOO that can so easily be misinterpreted :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl::laughing: I mean buns and thighs and upper legs... not with digestive problems

Hi, everyone!

I just joined your DL Girls Only Trip for 2010 thread and looks like this thread would be a great fit (no pun intended ;) ) as well.

I gained weight after my son passed unexpectedly several years ago...was on a good road to losing it when we moved to NC and a subdivision. Being a city girl I was used to walking 3 to 6 miles a day through neighborhoods, busy streets, looking in shops.

Here - no sidewalks and I don't drive. Not good a mix. :sad2: After a yr found a job teaching my darling preschoolers, but lost it after 8 mos (NC has not been my friend so far!!). Well, never lost a job before...no jobs to be found...sat around on the computer for a year. Time to get a movin!!

Have decided to begin by taking my baby granddaughter for walk everyday through the subdivision..working up to an hour a day. Trying to cut out all the sweet snacks (that will be tricky), drink more water, make better choices.

I don't need to be thin again, but want to feel energized again. Hope you don't mind a newbie.:)

As I've read through this thread, I've found each of you to be an inspiration.

OMG that was so funny! I had to read it a couple of times thinking I had misred it but I had a great visual! :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Hey, we meet again. No cake talk here though. ;)

First of all, I am very sorry for the loss you went through. I cannot even imagine. :grouphug:

But I am glad you are making changes to be healthy and we absolutely welcome you to join us in our struggles and successes. :)

I just noticed you've lost 50 lbs! Congratulations!!!!! :cheer2:

Christine, nice to see you here as well as on the diva thread. I'm also sorry for your loss. It isn't supposed to be like that.

I love the photo of your granddaughter.

I'm glad you posted that. I was feeling like I wasn't doing enough to be on this thread since while I am doing better with my food choices, but I am not denying myself...

AmySue

I think I'm safe in saying, after reading what you said on another thread today, don't compare yourself to anyone else, girl! Each of us is on our own path and we're doing it our own way. Your swimming is amazing and a huge inspiration but when I start swimming again, no way am I going to do my laps the way you do.

OOOO that can so easily be misinterpreted :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl::laughing: I mean buns and thighs and upper legs... not with digestive problems

:rotfl2::lmao:

I had my nice weight loss earlier in the week. Since then I'm up a pound. I know it's because I worked out so hard on Tuesday (it's my fault - I told my trainer I wanted Michelle Obama arms by summer) that I rested on purpose Wed (no exercise) and then Thursday I had not time to exercise.

Today I did the first half hour of an aerobics class (an easy one) and then did my 45 min on the elliptical - but it was very hard for me today. Skip two days and boy, it gets a lot harder.

Congrats to everyone for getting healthy and just showing up here!:yay:

I, too, am so sorry to hear about your loss and send many healing wishes your way. :wizard::wizard:
Walking with your granddaughter sounds like a great place to start the exercise program!

AmySue--now that's just silly talk to think you have to "do enough" to post on this thread.

Great job on the swimming! I swam pretty much every day for both of my pregnancies and thought I was doing well to get in 20 laps. Here you are swimming 70 minutes!! I can't do flip turns. I was, actually, in the swim team in junior high and was awful. My mom wouldn't let me quit because she said it was good for me to stick with something even if I wasn't great at it (and I think she wanted me to lose weight -- I was quite a chubby pre-teen). Anyway, I think I did swim team for like almost 2 years and never moved from that slowest lane. It's was pretty embarassing, but I did learn to swim. I think I could even do flip turns at one point, but I lost that quickly. And I'm so glad to be able to swim now, but for me it's more of a relaxing exercise, not hard core. That's why I moved onto running - because it's the only exercise I've done when I'm really getting my heart rate up and getting some good cardio exercise. Well that was way more than you wanted to know. ;)

I know it's because I worked out so hard on Tuesday (it's my fault - I told my trainer I wanted Michelle Obama arms by summer) that I rested on purpose Wed (no exercise) and then Thursday I had not time to exercise.

OK, I want Michelle Obama arms too. How do you get them? I hate my arms (and my tummy, but I can hide my tummy). I do some arm weights two times a week, but I'm not seeing a lot of progress. Any tips to pass on?

Good luck everyone! I did my weights today. And I have a 1 hour 45 minute run to do on Saturday or Sunday. Hmmm... Not sure how that is going to happen. There's the rain issue. And that just seems like an awfully long time to run.:confused3

70 minutes swimming? Good lord--I manage about 20 minutes and that's watching the clock intently. Of course almost every day I swim I have been on the treadmill/stepper before for an hour. And oh--um hi, I'm just looking around for good support threads since the biggest loser thread is about to close soon. Think I've posted to this one, one of the threads I was posting to regularly but I quit because I wasn't sure if it were just for people running a marathon or something.

When you get to that 20 minutes, take it SLOW and EASY -- so it feels too easy for you. Just focus on completing the time in a very below maximum effort sort of way. It'll be doable once you get there. Trust me.

Are you offering Beth a room at GCH? If that's the case, I'm sure she'll be there! I bet we can sign her up for the 1/2 marathon!

I'm glad you posted that Jen, because I was going to ask you about speed when following the c25k. For week 1, I was gradually increasing the 5 min warm up till I got to 3.5 mph pace, doing the runs at 5 mph (i know..it's more a jog but I didn't want to KILL myself on week one), staying at those speeds throughout, then gradually slowing during the 5 minute cooldown.

But I have no idea if this is right. Does the speed matter? And if so, what should I be shooting for?

And absolutely Beth and I are shacking up at the GCH!! Neither of us have stayed there, and I can't wait!! I split my dp's into 3 GCH short trips and am soooo excited!! And I'm planning on the 1/2 for 2010 (that's if I survive the 5k this year of course)!

Honestly, it's exhausting. Is it this hard for anyone else?? :confused3

Yes! Absolutely!! I find I'm constantly totally having to convince myself that something I'm craving is SO NOT WORTH IT! And sometimes that little conversation inside my head is a tough sell!! But we can do this!

Ok here's the lowdown

Monday - only able to burn 200 kcal before AF showed up; Not enough water intake.
Tuesday- no gym & horrible eating :sad2: DRANK 5 CUPS OF WATER :thumbsup2
Wednesday - I had the worst munchies but adding everything up I stayed within my calorie count. Burned 400 kcal on elliptical; DRANK 6 CUPS OF WATER :thumbsup2
Thursday - so far I have only had 1200 calories; No gym after night class because I'm seeing the midnight showing of Wolverine
Friday(GOALS) - Eat well :thumbsup2 Stick to 1600-1700 calories. Go the gym (closes @ 10pm) and burn 400+ (aiming for more!) via the treadmill, bike, elliptical & the pool. I definitely plan on sitting in the sauna

Saturday (GOALS) - Eat well :thumbsup2 Stick to 1600-1700 calories. Go the gym (closes @ 8pm) & burn 400+ calories via treadmill, bike, elliptical, pool & MAYBE the StairMaster (MY WORST ENEMY:scared:). The sauna & jacuzzi sound lovely :cloud9:

Sunday
(GOALS) - The hardest day to stay in calorie range but I will definitely try my hardest! Maybe go to the gym (closes at 8pm) & swim laps.

Drink your water!

Awesome job and goals Cristabel! And I adore that smiley!!

On a positive note: I ran today for 2.55 miles in 37 min. I am not breaking any speed records! I still have a sore muscle in my inner thigh and now I am limping - I hope the soreness goes away by Sat. my next run day!! If not I may have to take two days off because I don't want it to turn into a 'real' injury.

Vicki you're my hero. I can't imagine making it that far!

I just had to come post here and boast about something!!! I went to the emergency clinic about 2 1/2 weeks ago for an ear infection and weighed in at 210. Today I went to my "lady" doctor and weighed in at 206!

That's awesome Bridgette!

So, I am eating somewhat better. I have always found once I start exercising, I automatically eat better. I just am not ready to seriously diet when I am just getting started again with my work out.

I swam for 1 hour today, 2700 yards. I am tired now!!

Keep up the good work everyone!!

I think that's true...once I get into an exercise routine it is easier to make healthy food choices. And wow! on the run! That's awesome AmySue!!

Well, I weighed in this morning and am down from 214.6 to 211.8 for a loss of -2.8 pounds.

:worship::cool1::woohoo::yay:WTG Beth!!

I weighed today and I lost 5 lbs. but this was my first week so I know it's 'water weight' but I am still happy with that loss.

That's awesome! And water weight or not, it will get you motivated to stay on track!

It's all about being healthy! Whether you exercise or lose pounds, fat, inches, or gain muscle, health is the key. So I'm proud of you! :woohoo:

Hi there Christine! Good to have you join us. And I'm so sorry about your son. I can't even imagine.

Today I did the first half hour of an aerobics class (an easy one) and then did my 45 min on the elliptical - but it was very hard for me today. Skip two days and boy, it gets a lot harder.

Congrats to everyone for getting healthy and just showing up here!:yay:

Donna, you've been so great about exercise! Proud of you!!

Sorry about the huge multi-quote response above. Between the crazy week in the ER thanks to the "swine flu panic" and having computer problems at the house, I had a week of posts to catch up on.

I weighed in this morning at 194. -3 from last week and 49.5 lbs total. I soooooo want a 50 lb banner!!!!! Like Cristabel I got my visit from AF so I am really hoping to get that banner in the next week.

I also survived week one of c25k. It was hard to make sure I stuck to the schedule with the way my work week was, and I actually just did the 3rd day in the garage after everyone went to bed to make sure I got it in. But I have to say, today I wanted to get it done, because I do have so much more energy on the days I have been hitting the treadmill. We'll see how next week goes....

I just noticed you've lost 50 lbs! Congratulations!!!!! :cheer2:
Thanks. It's taken me forever, but it's nice to have that. :goodvibes

Hi there. I remember you. :) Feel free to join us. It's for anyone who's struggling to lose weight and be fit and healthy.

How do you do it??? No really. How? Every week you lose at least 3 pounds. What's your secret? And don't say eating healthy because we all do that. :rotfl:

What's a typical menu like for you? Do you eat three meals or several small ones? How much water do you drink? What do you think keeps it so consistent?

I'm struggling over here and could really use some tips. :flower3:

You are NOT struggling girl! You do great!!!

I have been averaging probably 2.5 a week. It seems like it has been harder the past few weeks so I think things will be slowing down as I get down in weight more. On a good day, I try to eat every 2-3 hours while I am awake. Something small. And I try to have carbs and protein for my in between meal snacks. For example, a small apple and a low fat string cheese. Or a handful of nuts and some dried fruit. I make sure I eat breakfast every morning. Protein. Usually an egg, one piece or turkey bacon or sausage, and one slice of wheat toast. So a few hours after that I would have a snack (like fruit and nuts). A few hours after I would have lunch. A lean cuisine and a piece of fruit or raw veggies, or if I am really busy, a balance bare protein bar and a piece of fruit or raw veggies.
A few hours later another protein/carb snack (or maybe a protein shake..I drink muscle milk light). A few hours later dinner which might be a small grilled chicken breast and steamed veggies, or grilled fish and veggies, something like that. If I get the munchies before bed a piece of fruit or a skinny cow sandwich. If I have chocolate cravings I might have a 100 cal hersheys wafer bar (maybe once or twice a week). And I drink water (or water with crystal light) all day long. Probably 2 liters a day on average.

I'm used to it now and it isn't that hard anymore to stick to it (unless the fam wants to go to darn outback or ben and jerrys..lol). The harder thing is actually making sure I eat every few hours. I'll get busy and realize I haven't eaten and that is not going to help me lose steadily. So bringing things to work to keep at my desk helps. I always bring a bag of grapes, an apple, protein bar, protein shake, string cheese, and a frozen meal. And water of course. The cafeteria at work has a salad bar and cut up raw veggies. And they always have grilled chicken at the grill and some veggie option. So I have choices. I keep crystal light and a protein bar in my purse always in case I am somewher without good choices.

That's really it. And multivitamins. And trying to stick to exercise. :thumbsup2

Thanks for all that info Amy! You are doing so great. Other than the nuts, and raw veggies, that's about what I eat too. (I can't do crunchy things with my lousy teeth)
I do eat more treats than you do. I like my desserts and have one daily, but I work it into the calorie count so I don't know if that's bad or not.
And you work out way more than I do.

Ah well, keep on keeping on is all we can do! :)

Finished my 1 hour 45 minute run.

Good job Jen!!! I bet you feel like a million bucks now that it's done. :worship:

I was feeling pretty darned good about myself when I finished. Made it just a little over 10 miles. But now, well, I just hurt - my legs, my feet - and I'm tired. It's gonna be an early night to bed tonight.

I think I have a rest from exercise day tomorrow. I'm going to need it to heal.

But this is good. Really. It is. :upsidedow

OK, I want Michelle Obama arms too. How do you get them? I hate my arms (and my tummy, but I can hide my tummy). I do some arm weights two times a week, but I'm not seeing a lot of progress. Any tips to pass on?

I'll probably have more tips as we go since I just told him this last week. But I'll tell you what he had me do last week (after I asked him for M.O. arms). We did pushups on a bench with my body at an angle (this one is hard to explain, you have to see it), pull downs at a machine (maybe it works lats?), and the one where you push the pads together with your arms while you are fake sitting, and tricep pull downs. Then with weights, I did pushing up (bent arms becoming straight), also walking and then spreading arms out holding weights, and bicep curls.

It matters the order - he likes to alternate pushs with pulls, and the amount of weight is important. The one where you spread your arms out with weights works the deltoids and that is the lovely muscle you see so clearly on Samatha Harris, the hostess of Dancing with the Stars.

What he told me recently was that he couldn't do this with me before because i had too much body fat to see the definition. So I think that was why he waited to train me and we worked on nutrition instead (although he always encouraged aerobic exercise). I just trust him at this point - I'm healthier than I've been in years.

And oh--um hi, I'm just looking around for good support threads since the biggest loser thread is about to close soon. Think I've posted to this one, one of the threads I was posting to regularly but I quit because I wasn't sure if it were just for people running a marathon or something.

Amy, you are such a winner. Look at you go. In the garage, I love it! You are sooo close now.

On a good day, I try to eat every 2-3 hours while I am awake. Something small. And I try to have carbs and protein for my in between meal snacks. And I drink water (or water with crystal light) all day long. Probably 2 liters a day on average.

I'm eating pretty much on your schedule too, only I've been doing oatmeal for breakfast and I don't have nuts. I'm going to check out muscle milk light because I need a low cal protein drink. Also balance bare protein bars. I've been using kashi lean ones and I'm sick of them.

Is crystal light something that comes in a packet and you pour it into your water?

Finished my 1 hour 45 minute run.

I had no chance to exercise today and I really miss it. Am going tomorrow.
