Disneyland 70th speculations and news

As terrible as that parade is, I’m going to miss that infectious music. I don’t expect it to return. August 3rd is early. Disney’s fiscal year begins around October 1st. Usually the cost cutting doesn’t start until then…
They stopped this same time last year. They need to move the Frightfully Fun floats backstage for those performers to start doing overnights, so they have to get rid of Better Together.

It supposedly might be back next summer.

I think it was early last year. The Pixar summer thing already wasn't going that great. My nephew went last August during the lull, and I remember having the "is it worth going at this time" conversation with him and looking over the lack of entertainment on the schedule and the ride closures. Because of work and school obligations he had to go in August, but he was able to push his trip at least so his last day was the first day of Halloween. He said the parks were pretty much dead for his first two days so he got to ride a lot, and then he got to experience the Halloween stuff for his last day so that ended up making it feel worth it to him in the end. But I remember that even if he had gone earlier in August, the entertainment schedule was pretty sparse. I do feel this is a newish thing though. I agree with you that there used to be more summer stuff going on through August. I think with a lot of schools starting up again in August these days and with Disney's focus on Halloween, the company has just decided they can treat the first half of August like off-season and save some money. I too remember the days when August still had a lot going for it, but I generally wouldn't schedule a trip for that month anymore myself since I don't live nearby.

It’s just surprising to me that it ended so early. Even Knott’s entertainment program runs through this week, as most local kids don’t start school until next week or later.

Mid August through Labor Day usually sees smaller crowds but not that small. I agree it’s about Halloween - I’m seeing ‘Halloween Time’ ads all over social media since last week. Crazy to see Halloween season start three months before the day! But I guess it’s more profitable than summer now…

I agree. In my world (that only I care about) Halloween should not start before October 1st. Thanksgiving can be November 1 - Thanksgiving and Christmas does no being until after Thanksgiving.

Lowe's already has some Halloween decorations out (and has for 2 weeks). At Home has a very large collection of Halloween merch already! Funny thing is they will put it all away in early October to put the Christmas stuff out!!

This is what drives me crazy.. I agree I'm not ready for Halloween until October but the last few years if you wait its all sold out. We keep saying this is the year we go big but then we can't find anything to add to our yard display, so we just don't.

🤷 More money for Disney! Same thing happens for us, by the time we're ready to think about it there is only the dregs left.

The so-called “Summer-wean” creep drives me crazy — I don’t want to see Halloween items in the stores in August or September! And the only part of the Disneyland Halloween Time that I care for is Dia de los Muertos / Plaza de Familia and even then I’m not interested in it until mid-October. My kids are grown and we get at most a handful of trick-or-treaters on my street (the big trick-or-treating streets are a few blocks away). Last year we happily left off the porch light and retreated to the family room to watch Coco (our annual tradition, but we used to wait to see if we would get trick-or-treaters). I don’t buy Halloween merch at DL (or anywhere).

I really hope Wondrous Journeys comes back during spring 2026, we weren’t able to schedule any late nights at DL until late August this year, so we missed it. Oh well, we’ll watch Fire of the Rising Moons in SW:GE instead of Halloween Screams, and DH will be happy because it’s his favorite.

I don’t find the Halloween stuff right not to be too over the top. It’s mostly smaller sections of the stores.

We saw Fantasmic last night from the Cafe Orleans reserved area and it was great. Right up front with a full view of the island. The one thing I found odd and maybe it’s been a while since we saw the show before Jack Sparrow was added and then taken away. Was Peter Pan always just kind of stationary and taunting Hook? I thought he moves around and they do some sword play that’s very jokey looking? I wish Disney could project the dragon on the wall of water like they used to do when it was the B-mode before the dragon burned down. And when did Hades get dropped from the lineup? Chernabog is such a great portion of that show.

We always make it a point to see Fantasmic when go every few years and we’re never disappointed.

Tonight, we watch World of Color from the virtual queue section. Looking forward to that.

They’re heavily promoting Halloweentime on social media, but not yet in the parks.

There’s definitely a battle between. Peter Pan and Hook definitely have a fight. Usually the characters are stationary only when it’s windy. Not sure what happened… I heard they cancelled the shows on Saturday so maybe some backend issues?

Hades is in the DHS version, never was in DL.

Yep and they were setting up for OBB yesterday. Just like the food booths, the decorations probably impact the parade route. The first OBB is less than two weeks away.

This was just outside of Golden Zephyr

Did you venture in the stores today? Today was the big HalloweenTime merchandise drop. There are only small sections of 70th merch now.
There was still lots of 70th merch in Los Feliz and the Off Hollywood shops at CA.

One Halloween item I liked but they only had a sweatshirt for was this one. I wonder if they’ll do a tshirt of it. They had a Minnie version.

Last month OCR reported that a Disney spokesperson confirmed PTN and Wondrous Journeys will return in January. Time will tell if that’s accurate… as discussed earlier, there are reports that both may paused until April, with Mickey’s Mix Magic returning on an interim basis.

OCR and several DL social media personalities have claimed that Disneyland is working on a drone based nighttime spectacular that will largely phase out fireworks… we will see.

Interestingly, DL closes at 11pm during the work week next week…. But then reverts back to midnight for the remainder of the month. Odd. Last year, it operated to 12am mid month, the. 11pm…

I have to say as an out of towner, the Halloween stuff is just so darn marketable. I get why it comes out this early. Halloween might be the best thing Disneyland does.

Wife and me just got back from Trader Sam’s. Such a great place to have adult time. Kids took our LLs and jumped around while we rode the train and Main Street vehicles. It’s nice to just have a slow park day.

It’s a really good Halloween merchandise drop this year. Glad you guys had a fun day!!! Sounds perfect.
