Disney Y.E.S. Program

Just booked classes last night for daughters!! So excited about the classes..American Story and Marine Life at Living Seas (couldn't find one for both of them in same age group) but that means Mom and Dad get to share different experiences when we hook back up in the MK!! And the bonus of the park passes $$$ is so incredible:cool1:!!! Can't wait til June!! Thanks for all the info.

Do we have to go with the kids? I sure hope not. I'm sending my almost 14 y/o and her 14 y/o BFF. They certainly don't need me there.

Can you use Disney gift cards to pay for the tickets? Our grocery store is offering $0.20 Fuelperks right now on Disney gift cards!

You can't use them to pay for the tickets but you can use them at restaurants, even counter service. What grocery store is offering that? I'm collecting gift cards to use for food since we're not doing the dining plan this year.

Thanks for the info. That is really disappointing.

The grocery store is Giant Eagle. They are in the PA/OH/WV/MD region.

So if my daughters are 12 and 13 a parent will have to attend with them, is this correct?

Yes. We are taking grand-daughters and 9yr will be taking
2 classes and 6yr will be taking
1. We will be saving $700!:cool1:

I believe it's only if they are under 13. You should be safe.

Just to clarify...
If they are 13+ you still have to go with them, check them in for the program, and remain in the same park. But you do not have to attend the whole class with them.

This is all great information. I have a question about picking up tickets. The only day that programs are offered that my DD's are interested in is the day we arrive. And at 7:30 am. So, I'm concerned with picking up tickets. Is there any way to have them mailed or do you HAVE to pick them up at a Disney park??? Thanks in advance. I want to sign them up ASAP, buy am worried about this logistic.

Perfect! Our plan was to stay in AKV just not with them. :thumbsup2

The lead person is required to pick them with photo ID. I believe they did away with mailings last year.

A quick review of 2 YES classes taken by my DS6.

1) How Things Move at MK. DS loved it. Good activities to get kids thinking about how things move. Our leader was Megan and she was great. We rode on Pooh, the Carousel, IASW, and the people mover (no front of the line access so be prepared to wait in line).

2) Synergy in Science at EP. DS liked this, but I wasn't all that impressed. I think my lack of enthusiasm has more to do with the leader than the class. I won't say her name, but she was very...ditsy. She had a hard time making decisions, she didn't have a loud voice, and she was not very authoritative. She frequently forgot the words she was trying to use to get a point across to the students and then the whole conversation was lost on the kids. We rode on Spaceship Earth, Captain EO, and Figment. I heard other leaders being very enthusiastic, encouraging, and making sure all the kids got to participate (we had a couple of very dominant children in our group who blurted out all the answers and got most of the time with the hands-on demonstrations because our instructor didn't promote "sharing"), so I think this program could be very good with the right instructor.

Overall, we had a positive experience and would definitely sign DS up for other YES classes in the future. It helped us justify pulling him out of school, we got discounted tickets, and DS had a lot of fun.

We are still looking for a couple more kids to join our group the first week of May if anyone is interesed. It's for the "wild by nature" class at AK for grades 2nd-9th. Please let me know as soon as possible if you're interested.

Is will call open that early? I thought I read they said to get them atleast the day before the class

does anyone know.......

we have APs (so don't need YES tickets)

we do homeschool

is there any way DD can take some of the YES classes? I don't mind paying a reasonable fee but obviously don't want to pay for the park tickets when we already have them.

thanks
