Disney World's single biggest tourist market is.....New Jersey?

I really feel sheltered now.

I thought everyone in NJ called subs, subs. I thought subs are on a hard roll and hoagies are on a soft roll. Never had to call anything a hoagie b/c why on earth would you get a sub on a soft roll??? :rotfl:

A Michigander here - don't mean to butt in, but what are "jimmies" and "sprinkles"? Something for ice cream? Anyways, I'm off to go "up north" and visit some Yoopers! Thanks.

Sprinkles are the chocolate or rainbow toppings for ice cream. "Jimmies" are what NJers call sprinkles. My uncle knew a guy in the Navy that went to Mississippi for some training and while they were there they went to an ice cream shop. The man asked for "jimmies" with his ice cream. The guy at the shop looked at him dumbfounded and said "Sir, we don't sell comdoms here!" :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2: I guess we need to watch what we say in other states!

Welcome to Disboards and CONGRATULATIONS on your upcoming trip - from a "former" Jersey Girl (Bergenfield!)

I have a couple of words of advice: First, if you haven't made your ADR's for dining yet - CALL NOW!! You ask what character meals not to miss - you REALLY need to call and get a ressie for those especially. Some good ones are Chef Mickeys, Garden Grill, Ohana breakfast. Call Disney Dining and get a Cast Member to book meals for you NOW!!!!

Utilize Fast Pass and Rider Switch at the parks (Cast Members will be happy to assist you). As to what rides your 7 y/o shouldn't miss - that's a long list!!! If you haven't picked up a book like the Unofficial Guide to WDW - RUN to a bookstore and get it (the 2006 edition is out and its pretty up to date). There's also a book for WDW with Kids that might be helpful for you.

Please don't go to Disney World unprepared. You'll have a much better experience if you have a "plan"! Now get to work!!!

its overwelming!

how do i find the schedule for shows like fantasma?
i want to get a dinner reservation that leads into that
does anyone know what i mean?

suggestions for dinner reservations please?
gonna try to do breakfasts and dinners and skip lunches.

any good breakfasts i shouldnt miss and i thought i didnt need reservations for places with counter service?

onelugnut~

Definitely check out the restraurant board. While it might seem like people are only talking about the pro's and con's of the dining package it really is the best place to get info about dining.

You are looking on information on the Fantasmic Dinner Package. I haven't done it so unfortunately I'm not much help with anything other than the name. Try doing a search. I know that many people have posted about it in the past.

The only advance dining reservations (ADR) that you need to worry about making are those for any table service restaurants. Counter service places do not require or accept them. You can make the ADR by calling 407-WDW-DINE. P.S. I have always enjoyed the character breakfast offered at Ohana in the Polyniesian resort.

I highly suggest that you check out allearsnet.com. It is a great resource for WDW information. They also have menus for just about every eating establishment on property so you can get an idea of what place has what to eat. I also noticed that wdwinfo.com just added a restaurant search with menus. This might help you to narrow down you search if you are not already familiar with the places to eat.

Please feel free to PM or email me with specific questions. I would be happy to pass on any of the information I've learned over the years of planning.

For park hours/parades/fireworks, etc. - best bet is usually www.disneyworld.com Try this site and see if it will get you to the schedule you want: http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wd...arHome?id=MGMCalendarParkHoursMonthlyViewPage

Dinner at Disney MGM-Studios: you might try Hollywood & Vine (that's a buffet that seems to be best for little children :) ); 50's Prime Time is another Disney Studios restaurant. A Cast Member can advise you as to what time you should eat in order to make it to the show.

You're right, you don't need ressies for any counter service, but Character Meals will certainly require an ADR, as will your dinner at MGM. Ohanas at the Polynesian has a great character breakfast that now features Lilo & Stitch. Chef Mickey's is also a favorite for many of us (at the Contemporary). Cape May at Beach Club has a nice (quieter!) character breakfast.

Have a good idea which days you want which meals/approximate times - call Disney Dining and tell the CM this is your first trip..... most of the CM's are wonderful and will be so glad to help you. (if you aren't getting a "good feeling" about the CM early in the phone call, do what most of us do - we end that call and call right back - you'll get another CM and a better experience!)

You also might want to post questions separately - for instance, on this board (Theme parks), start a thread titled something like "Best rides for my 7 y/o son?" - give specific info that might help us (is he afraid of the dark, a thrill seeker, short for his age; info like that!). Don't be shy about asking for help - we've all been there/done that and this is what the boards are for - we're here to help each other!

Don't over worry about it. You'll have tons of fun. Hope you left sometime for a water park we went to typhoon lagoon and the youngest granson(8) said it was the best day of the vacation. Get everywhere early be there at 9am you'll have a couple of hours where it won't be mobbed. We were able to go on lots of things with just about no lines. you can take a break after lunch and let the kids nap. Lots of luck and tons of Fun   :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

ADR stands for Advanced Dining Reservation (formerly Priority Seating!!) which is what we refer to as a "ressie"!

Good luck with the planning. Remember too that if you can't get exactly what you want tomorrow, keep calling back - there are always cancellations. :goodvibes

just did it and i am dissappointed, everything is booked up cant get most of what i wanted but will keep trying back.

Just wanted to say Hi to all you Jersey people. I grew up in Paramus and now live in Florida. :rotfl: I get a resident discount now! :rotfl: :Pinkbounc

No matter the time of year we go, when a CM asks where we are from, we are told "There are a ton of people from Jersey here!"

A Union/Middlesex county girl here. I LIVED on Taylor Ham and cheese on a hard roll for breakfast for years. Call them subs, jimmies or sprinkles-whatever I say first-and we also go "down the shore". I find it hilarious that such a tiny state can have such a difference between north and south!

If you don't make a character meal don't sweat it. They are fun (we did princess breakfast last time) for the kids but expensive, rushed service and take away from park time. If this is your first visit there is soooo much to see and do you will have the time of your life with or with out a character meal.

My children don't really enjoy "going out to dinner" at nicer sit down places and planning your day around reservations can be challenging. Have fun and say "YO" to Mickey for me.

:cool1:

This is a cool thread !!!!!!! I grew up near GSP Exit 100 --Ocean Grove--well actually grew up and lived at the BEACH..
Relocated to Florida in 2001 but still a JERSEY GIRL !!!!!!! It's amazing how many folks down here ask me if I am from New Jersey---hey do I talk :rotfl2: FUNNY??? We visited WDW about 4 times a year when living in Jersey. Now we have those GREAT Florida discounts and visit --well--you know !!!!! And---we are going Jersey week to meet up with our Jersey relatives.
We just returned from a week in soggy, :umbrella: damp New Jersey BUT we dined at all our favorite restaurants --had REAL PIZZA, Pork Roll, Hard Rolls, Tomatoes , Max's Hot Dogs and hung with the relatives!!!! Didn't have a sub or any sprinkles this trip !!!!
Anyway---A NJ discount would be a GOOD thing-----hope Disney is listening or at least reading !!!!

Oh, you gotta love Max's hot dogs (better than Windmill) but if traveling up north you have to go to Rut's Hut.
