Disney World's single biggest tourist market is.....New Jersey?

I grew up in Weehawken, so North Jersey that we were practically in Manhatten :teeth: . And my family called 'em Blimpies, because back then, it wasn't a chain, it was a sandwich shop in Hoboken!

I love that the one in Hoboken is now Blimpie Base #1. My DH doesn't believe me when I tell him that Blimpie was *not* a chain when I was a kid, especially now that they have them in the City.

(I'm also perpetually amused that NYC is "the City"...as if there weren't any other cities out there in the world). ;)

a very large group rate, we all seem to be going the same week anyway and we could meet every year.
hello from the very water logged jersey shore (monmouth county)

Disney in 18 days, wa hooo

by the way, trying to pick out a princess/ cinderallla meal for a 4 yr old girl

The 1900 Park Fair was wonderful. Took my goddaughter for dinner. Fairy Godmother met us in the lobby. Got a beautiful picture with me, MY Goddaughter and OUR Fairy Godmother. Cinerella, Prince Charming and mice came to tables. Food was excellent! princess:

Sounds like CRT is the most popular one! Your idea for a group rate is the best idea yet for us nj folks. From north jersey and its been raining for a week. The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow..so they say. Have a great time
at disney! Hope your daughter get picked to be cinderella for the day!

Just had to respond. This thread is too funny!! There are definitely differences between North and South Jersey - it is almost 2 different states.

We are from South, South Jersey - Salem County (not sure what exit, maybe 1). I think the "hoagie and jimmies" is a Philly influence. My parents are both from there and growing up that is what we called them. As I've gotten older I have moved to "subs and sprinkles". However, we still go "Down the shore" and not "To the beach" :rotfl2:

We have been to WDW twice as a family during Jersey week and it is the best time of the year to go. Perfect weather and the crowd levels are fine. I agree that there should be a NJ Resident Discount. Does any other state have a week named after them that creates fear in people from other states?? I think it is hysterical when the threads pop up about people worrying about NJ Week. :rotfl: I just hope they keep believing that it is horrible and they should stay away!

If you don't mind my asking, when is jersey week? I've lived in FL for 12 years now. Still have family in Paramus, River Edge, Hillsdale and Pequannock. Will be going back "home" for Thanksgiving this year.

Sorry there isn't a NJ resident discount! :rotfl:
Move to Fl! (Nevermind, we're getting crouded enough as it is! :rotfl2: )

Awwww - now I'm homesick! Say "hey!" to Hillsdale for me!!

I *think* Jersey week is the 1st week in November (?)

This question isn't Disney related but I do agree that I see a lot of Jersey plates when I visit the parks, but let me ask the question I was curious about.I'm from florida and went to NYC last year but stayed in Jersey , What is the reason you can't pump your own gas in New Jersey gas stations? This just seemed weird and strange to me and was very curious to know why?

I think it's the law here in NJ, but I don't know the reason behind it. I am sure someone does. I also think Jersey is one of two or three states that doesn't have self-service gas. I love it full-service. It's been raining here for days and not having to get out of the car to get gas is amazing. :cool1:

Another Jersey Girl here...I'm from northern NJ. It's subs, sprinkles, taylor ham, down the shore, the city and Let's Go GIANTS!!!

yeah its the law here, no pumpin yur own gas.
i think it is just another thing NJ does right.
we have some head up there buts politicians that are fighting for
our right to pump our own.
telling us it would save us money.
hah! it would cost the same in no time
and you would just have some slack jaw looking at you from the booth
like the rest of the states
i was a mechanic, and gas pumper once. and i think
it is the most civil thing in the world that i dont smell like gas
on the way to a wedding or dinner or what ever after i stop for gas.
well thats just my 2 cents.

When my husbands job asked him if he would like to relocate to Florida. We did not have to think about it twice. So now we live 45 minutes to the mouse and we visit as often as we can....

:earsboy: :earsgirl: princess: princess:

As I understand it, the reason that you can't pump your own gas here in New Jersey is that it would eliminate too many minimum wage jobs. DH says that it's because the politicians don't think we're smart enough to know where to put the gas.

It finally stopped raining here (at least yesterday and today). I've lived in NJ all except three very misguided years of my life, and I can't remember flooding like I've seen this week!

While all of you are having fun at WDW during Jersey week, I will be here keeping an eye on the state for you. In all my years of traveling to WDW, I've NEVER been there during Jersey week! My son went to a Catholic school which didn't close for the teachers' conventions, and the school always encouraged us to take him out whenever we wanted to travel. They felt that he could learn more in a week (or two or even three) of traveling and seeing different things than he would in a classroom for that same amount of time. Of course, since he's 30 years old, we're long past having to worry about that now anyway!

I hope that they never pass the law about pumping your own gas. MY DH is from Pennsylvania where you have to pump your own gas and it bothers him that he can’t do it here. My argument is always that it’s dirty and why would you want to do that when you are dressed for work or wedding or anything thing else when your not wearing grubby clothes? Not to mention in rain, snow, extreme wind and cold… DH always complains about the wait but then insists on going to the biggest gas station which is understaffed with incompetent people. Argh!

In college (in PA) it would sometimes come up in conversation and there would be one person in the group that didn’t know about the Jersey gas pumping situation.
Pennsultucky person: You can’t pump your own gas?
Me: Of course not, we have people to do that for us. :smooth:

I don't even know how to pump my own gas! We lived in PA for three years, but DH always put the gas in the car. Now, if only we had someone to put air in the tires...

it is a great job for young people, or otherwise
and it doesnt seem to make our gas anymore expensive.

the only thing that will surely make our gas more expensive is that
dam gas tax they say "we deserve"
I am voting against anyone who backs raising taxes on gasoline.

raise taxes on campaign donations!!!!!!!!
or needless commercial air travel.

sorry, now i went and got political,
even though i lost my disney magic for a minute.

wait....14 days to go 14 days to go.
o.k. .. got it back.

how did the anniversary surprise go?!!! Have you and your wife told the kids yet? The excitment builds!!!! :goodvibes

this is an anniversary gift that was truly a pleasure to give.

I found the disney scrapbook i was looking for, and wrapped it up with a card that said something about making more good memories and to please help me fill this
(it was a poem, and no i am not repeating it here, too sappy)
but lets just say, i got the effect i wanted.
she never saw it coming.
she wants to hold off on telling the kids till the week before (halloween)
but lets say they could figure it out, the way we have been singing disney tunes all the time. and the constant references to magic this and that.

14 days to go, cant wait to see the kids go nuts.
(still working on a cinderella meet for the 4 yr old girl, and/or a chef mickey meal, cant seem to fill that)

hey here is another question is there any tasteful disney jewlery that i could buy for her to mark the occasion? Nothing too expensive, i am tapped out.

by the way, since you are so helpful, could you explain the DD and DS abbreviations to this new comer.

Sure! DD = Disney Daughter; DS = Disney Son; DW = Disney Wife!

You should check the Disney Store online - they do have some very pretty jewelry (most of it runs around $12-$15). When you're at WDW, the World of Disney store in Downtown Disney has EVERYTHING you could ever want - jewelry and otherwise!! ;)

Keep calling for cancellations. Did you try 1900 Park Fare for a Cinderella meal? Princess Storybook (PSB) at Epcot and Cinderella's Royal Table (CRT). You might want to even ask if there's availability for "2" - try all the #'s. If you could only get for 2, you could do a Daddy/Daughter meal or a Mommy/Daughter. Keep working all the angles!!

Any other questions, don't be shy!
