Well, at DL, they've left the Peoplemover track to rot, so it wouldn't be the first time to leave a transportation structure to deteriorate.

As an offsite guest, I can say I love it when there is fog so the boats cant run or the monorail is down because they bring the buses in and its twice as fast to get from TTC to MK in the AM. I wish they could swap the lake and parking lot but I know WD's was this.

Apparently Disney has adopted the same strategy with maintenance as the Boston public transit system: “Meh”

This is another example of Disney being penny-wise pound foolish. Refusing to invest the the parks has created a crisis situation where hard decisions have to be made that wouldnmt be necessary if they had been handling it right in the first place:

Thankfully not the most credible story, but the monorail definitely needs some TLC... as a kid in the 90’s i have fond memories of the MK loop, but on a trip last year i took the epcot loop for the first time while park hopping. My first reaction of seeing future world from the monorail perspective was “what an eyesore” those trains have served wdw well but i feel like they have been neglected along with the front half of epcot for too long... maybe some of that epcot refurb should include the monorail station and a better sightline from the train.

If i had to choose between losing the epcot spur and getting new trains or keeping everything as is, i would take the new trains

Our family considers the monorail our first "ride" before we get to the parks, ferries are to only be used when the monorails are down. That's our motto.
Glad this rumor was shot down, I'm excited to see what the Skyline will be like! Fingers crossed my kids will still want to travel with me by the time it's built!

Another very important thing to realize is that the monorail goes right through the Contemporary so there would be a lot of construction and disruption going on and I can’t see them possibly disturbing guests, dealing with issues, etc. so I feel as if at least the MK will stay

Disney averages 150,000 people per day on the monorails. Does anyone know what the skyliners can do in a day?

The Skyliners would likely be different types of gondolas than what would be used in the Magic Kingdom area. So, rather than look at Skyliner capacity, you'd want to look at max capacity of larger gondolas.

According to industy leader Doppelmayr, the max capacity of their largest gondola is 5,000 passengers per hour per direction.

I hope not. At least the monorail (probably) won't fall out of the sky because Disney was too cheap to maintain it properly. A small box held up high in the sky by a wire...that's a hard pass for me.

I'm not trying to convince you to hop on a gondola. But, I'll point out that oldest aerial tram in North America has been running since 1976 (with a few periods of extended repair). It's the Roosevelt Island Tramway in New York City. In all that time, there have only been a few emergency evacuations and nothing has ever fallen from the "wire". I don't believe there have been any deaths or major injuries, either.

I don't think Disney could Replace the Epcot Monorail line with a Skyway it's to far for one thing, just think how long of a trip in a Non Aircondation Cab be like. More than Likely the 3 Monorail Resorts would get their own Epcot Bus route

Just build the approach on both sides of the EWP waterway up to an elevation that would allow the bridge to be high enough to allow the EWP floats to pass underneath. Moving some earth seems more practical than the maintenance and headaches of a drawbridge....

That was the original plan. As it turns out, it's not practical for the height that would be required.

There is also a reason why a drawbridge isn't feasible, but I've forgotten what it is.
