Disney Wonder September 3, 2012. Seattle to Vancouver 7 night Alaska Cruise!

:confused3So I have a question, and I'm not entirely sure where to ask it, so I thought I'd try our cozy little cruise group first. I'm looking for somewhere, either in a port during our cruise, or in Vancouver, where I can see a live moose.
So...anyone know where I can see a moose?:confused3

I know that there are moose all over Alaska. It was 20 years ago when I went, but I saw 4-5 moose doing the river raft tour from the Mendenhall. Most were up in the trees so it was hard to really see, but one(female) was down in the water as we rafted past. I was taking pictures of all the eagles so I didn't get any of the moose. There are TONS of eagles though.

I think the zoo in Vancover would probably be the most reliable to see them upclose.

Has anyone actually taken the cruise before? I didn't know if there would be local food on the ship? When I went on Royal Car a long time ago, they had Alaskan lobster for one meal, and Alaskan king crab for another. I didn't know if Disney had anything like this. Hearing about different people's opinions about the food quality, I might try to get as much local food as I can.

My family and I took the cruise last year, and there was a "taste of Alaska" meal. I don't remember about the crab, but they had venison and salmon, at least.

Hey there guys.....I was so excited to see yet another vegetarian. Did i see that Kristen is also a vegetarian? I screetched and told my husband that there was another one of us on board....He couldnt believe it either. He's wondering what disney is doing to draw vegetarians? There are at least 6 on this site and many in our fe. YEAH......sometimes i feel so alone out there. But not on this cruise!

It's so great that there are quite a few Veggie's on board!

I also found a cool natural foods store in Juneau and although it's not exclusively Vegetarian it looks like a great place to get a healthy meal – http://www.rainbow-foods.org/retail....asp?storeID=1B442E1B882B4D758BE66A2594DE9E62

Lil Bugger: Yes, Kristen is a vegetarian. I tend to eat that way but still eat meat periodically. It is neat that there are that many vegetarian Dis members on our cruise. I'm sure we'll eat well!

UKVeggie: You and my daughter should get together! She'll be turning 28 in August. While not travelling solo, she'll probably need some time away from Mom! I know she'd appreciate talking with another single person her age plus would love to hear about your time working at EPCOT and being from the UK. Kristen loves to travel and spent 9 weeks backpacking around Europe including the UK.

See you all in a few weeks.

I would love to meet up - I can’t wait to meet all you guys!

Before coming to work this morning, I checked Facebook and found out the horror that happened just miles away a few hours earlier. 12 people were killed during the new Batman movie at a theater my husband and I had just visited last Friday. This theater is the one closest to where I work. I'm still praying no one from here was there. (There is an "accountability exercise" going on right now) This is so horrible. What is wrong with people? :furious: I'm sure there were families there - people who thought they would give their child a perfect memory... seeing the new Batman at the midnight showing. How cool is that? And then to have this happen. You can't go anywhere anymore...

Let's hope for happier news as the day goes on. Praying for all those involved.

Jen, I am so sorry. Best wishes for all those affected by the tragedy.

Ok, I finally got my plane, got my trips figured out, found out they didn't put in my birthday correctly, so now I can get into the website to actually book everything and see that I do have a room number... everything is set.

Trips we are taking.
Mendenhall Float Trip
Best of Skagway
Alaska Rainforest & Crab Feast

:dance3:

Now just need to build a nice FE.

:wave2::wave2::boat: SO GLAD TO HAVE YOU SAILING WITH US. I SEE WE HAVE ALOT OF MOTHER DAUGHTERS TRAVELING TOGETHER. HOW OLD IS YOUR DAUGHTER? PLEASE POST YOUR FAVORITE DISNEY CHARACTERS FOR EVERYONE. WE ARE ALL READY AND COUNTING DOWN FOR A WONDERFUL ADVENTURE.

Hi everyone! My adult daughter and I just booked this cruise, yesterday. We have both cruised before. I have been on three of the four Disney ships and she has been on two. Hope it is not too late to join in on the FE exchange!:cool1:

Thanks Jen, and yes, we were on the same cruise in May. My DD and I had a great time, we just ended up spending a lot of quality mother/daughter time together! My DH and I may have to try to get to the meet for this cruise. We have had good luck in the past. Maybe we'll finally get to meet you, crazy that we are probably just a few miles from each other.

Hey DVCTigger - you all ok? You're more on our side of town, so I'm hoping no one you knew was in the theater. So sad...

Welcome aboard! How many are in your party? Kids? Interested in the FE? Can't wait to see Alaska! :cool1:

It is just my wife and myself. We have 2 kids but hey are both in college ( ha ha). We live in the Seattle area so if anybody has any question let me know. We always plan our trips a year in advance. So booking a cruise 6 weeks before it leaves is a little out of our comfort zone. We have always enjoyed doing the FE but I think we will pass on this one. With only 6 weeks until the cruise it would be tough to get something together.

Hi everybody!!

My siblings and I just booked today!! Yay!!! So excited!!

Can't wait to meet you folks

:wave2: We are all so glad to have you join us. How many of you are there? My sister "Zookeeeper" and our families are taking our first cruise together. We too are happy beyond words, about this alaskan cruise. Have you guys ever cruised before? This is their first, and my first disney. I have cruised 3 different cruise lines, and hoping for something alittle better. I have high expectations.......

From everything I've read so far, you should have really low expectations. The staff seem to be ok, but the room and food are just ok. I'm really hoping it's anywhere close to Royal, but it doesn't seem to. I'm looking forward to the port stuff though. That I don't think any one can screw up. :beach:

Wireless is also a waste of money for those thinking of getting it in the ship. It takes 10-20 min just to get to the log on screen. There are just to many mountains to get to the satellites. And the ship's standard line about it, according to the blogs, it that it is an outside company and they don't have any control over it and can't help.

Also just found out that Disney is charging people $52/transfer to/from port/airport. This is fine if you are getting into SEA and leaving YVR, even though you can get an outside company to do it for $21 each way. If you are coming and going from SEA then it's $30 from SEA. Just noticing. I'm going to take the Super Shuttle that is $21 each. Yes, if the bus breaks down they won't hold the boat, but I will take my chances with 2 hours to make a 30 min trip.

You're definitely better off taking a private shuttle rather than paying $52 for a Disney transfer--I reserved a private transfer from Richmond to Canada Place last year--we paid a lot less than for Disney and had no problem getting to the port. We also booked all of our shore excursions on our own, but this year we are buying the lumberjack show, since they don't have a non-Disney showing while we're in port.

3 in our room and 1 sibling and Mom in another. It'll be my 6th cruise :cheer2: Only ever cruised with Disney. They have phenomenal service especially in the dining room and staterooms. Ask and you shall receive. (If you don't see any desserts on the menu at dinner that you like, you can order a Mickey bar even though they don't list it on the menu). The shows in the theatre are Broadway caliber. If you're expecting skating rinks, bowling alleys, or other things as such, you'll be disappointed. While they do have activities that go on throughout the day, they are scheduled at certain times. But you can learn how to draw certain Disney characters and they do have some entertainment for the adults and 3 separate pools. The family pool has "Ariel Vision" (big tv screen) that plays Disney movies all day.

If you are a Disney person, you'll like it!

Even though it is cheaper to book the transfer outside of Disney, I'm not taking the risk. Besides, $52 to ensure that I make it to the boat is well worthwhile. And it is cheaper than the $75 transfer in the Bahamas. No complaints here!

Brand new to the boards, and going on our first Disney cruise, I figured I should quit lurking on this thread and say hi.

On this cruise will be my wife, two daughters, my mother-in-law, and of course myself. :)
