Disney Wonder September 3, 2012. Seattle to Vancouver 7 night Alaska Cruise!

devastating call I have made to DCL on the back of Disboard chat. Don't know when DCL were going to advise us after fully paid up flights & cruises along with a hotel in Seattle, hotel & flights non refundable, we need to choose a cruise to cancel because of that daft Govt Law.

What do we do? It was such a fab cruise to do, great price but now all blown to pieces, Fine if you live in the States but because we have so far to travel it is a nightmare for us to sort. What do you suggest?
:furious:

I would cancel the 2nd cruise and stay in Seattle for 2 or 3 days and then go to LA and stay there until you fly out. This way you are not changing your flights. I would talk to DCL about comping you for your hotel stay for at least part of those 6 days and for the cost of traveling from Seattle to LA. If they argue then I would tell them to pay for the hotel stay or pay the fine for your family to travel on the cruise.

Please do because they have b2b cruises for next year with the same situation. I would like to know why they are still booking those if they are going to have problems with this one and the may one they were able to work out.

Thanks

Next years cruises don't have the same problem. The issue is that the PVSA says "no foreign flagged vessel can transport a passenger from one US city to a different US city with out a stop at at distant foreign port". A distant foreign port is any port not in North America or the Caribbean.

Next years Alaska cruises depart from Vancouver, so the repo/1st Alaska cruise B2B would (in essence) be from LA to Vancouver. That's OK.

This years cruise is from LA to Seattle. You can't do that.

I'm not sure if this was rhetorical or not, but if you decide to keep the Alaska portion (I would), you might want to look into staying in Seattle and then flying to LA to keep your original flights home. I'm assuming your return flight is out of LA? I lived in Seattle for 2.5 years and there is definitely stuff to do there to pass the time. Also Vancouver is beautiful if you want to split your time.

Is DCL offering up anything? You would think they could cover your hotel in Seattle or change fees for your flights. Something...

I wonder how many people this affects? :confused3

I don't think May really worked out. They made everyone pack up, disembark, go through immigration, and recheck in (into a different room). The PVSA still viewed it as one cruise, regardless of all this.

I think DCL lost their court case, and had to pay the fine. Because of their bungling, I think they decided to eat the fine. Most cruiselines, when in the same situation, will pass such fines onto the passenger(s) in violation. I don't think DCL really wanted to go there :scared:

So, they decided to do what all the other cruiselines do, when in the same situation, tell those who are booked on this B2B that one of the legs must be cancelled.

That's part of the lyrics from the Carousel of Progress:

There's a great big beautiful tomorrow
Shining at the end of everyday
There's a great big beautiful tomorrow
And tomorrow's just a dream away

Man has a dream and that's the start
He follows his dream with mind and heart
And when it becomes a reality
It's a dream come true for you and me

So there's a great big beautiful tomorrow
Shining at the end of everyday
There's a great big beautiful tomorrow
Just a dream away

Hi Everyone!

I just thought I would pop by and say hello as I will be joining you all on the Cruise. I’m Izzy, 28, and ex Epcot Cast Member, originally from England but currently living in Vancouver and will be travelling solo.

I’m so excited to be sailing to Alaska. I only booked the Cruise a few days ago so now I’m trying to figure out which excursions to take – there are too many options to choose from!

FYI Disney wont let you do the B2B cruise.

Not sure what David and I will do. We booked the Sept. 3 cruise as our honeymoon. We get married Sept. 2nd. It's not as easy as rebook since we then need to figure out what to do. It sure feels like the world is crashing around us. 7 weeks to figure out a new honeymoon that may or may not include a mouse...

Doesn't Disney understand why this is so horrible???

Welcome to the cruise. I am from Anaheim (near Disneyland). I will be traveling with my husband. We want to stay in Vancouver for a few days but have no idea what area to stay and what to do. Any suggestion?

So sorry to hear about this - especially in light of the honeymoon. I sure hope you join us on the Alaska portion. I imagine it will be very romantic. There are plenty of options to consider if you have to cancel the B2B. Wishing happy thoughts and streamlined plans for you. pixiedust:

Finally got my GTY assignment!! I did a 7a navigators verandah GTY, and ended up with a 5a deluxe verandah on deck 7!! Yay!! :) HollywoodGlitter, I will email you with my assignment for the FE!

On a side note... Should I expect to keep this room now that I've gotten it? Or would they keep moving me?

Jen, I wonder if I got the room you switched from? Hahaha

Eta: nope, we are in 7044. But it looks like several of us are on deck 7!

GTY came through for us also, not quite as exciting from 11C up to 10 still on deck 2, but we won't complain. :)

Strangely the day before our GTY came through wayyyy in advance for our med cruise to Greece in June, and that one went from 11C to... 11C. :) Looking like quite a full ship for that one.
