Disney Wonder September 3, 2012. Seattle to Vancouver 7 night Alaska Cruise!

This will be our first cruise and we are all so excited! It'll by myself, my husband, and our 5 year old. I think we have a lot to learn about cruising before then!

You'll have such a wonderful time! We had a fantastic cruise last year--our first cruise was the Disney Wonder to Alaska last August.

Here are a few pieces of advice that served us well last year:

1. Read the sticky insurance thread RIGHT NOW! There are some serious traps with Walt Disney Cruise Line insurance for people with pre-existing conditions. It could have bitten us badly on our last cruise had I not had good advice on the boards and purchased some other insurance--my mother's ankle acted up on the cruise.

2. I wrote up a comparison of Disney and non-Disney excursions for Alaska here--they're a bit out of date, since they're from last year, but they still might be good reading:

My best friend and I will be joining the Seattle/Vancouver cruise aboard the Wonder on Sept. 3rd. We will be celebrating my 50th birthday. Looking forward to surfing the thread and getting to know everyone.

This will be our second Disney cruise. Our first was aboard the Wonder in Dec. 2010. It was phenomenal and we are looking forward to our return to the Wonder and our new adventure :D.

We are interested in doing the FE ... totally enjoyed participating in our first one. As soon as I get the room info and what not I will email Hollywood and let you know :D Now that we have a 1st experience under our belt this one will be sure to have more surprises :D

We are also doing this cruise B2B with the Pacific repo. Just checking in to say hello! :yay::yay::yay:

Hi Everybody. We are booked on this cruise (since last summer's Med cruise:rotfl:) and it looks like we will almost certainly be on it. We hope to be on the repo as well (we are booked on it too) but that depends on getting approval for our son to miss the first full week of school (in just this one he will miss 1-2 days depending on flights), so we just can't know about that.

If we get to do both we will be Platinum, castaway members for the second which would be fun--different perks so close together to compare:rotfl:

We are Americans who live in Germany. We would fly to LA and visit family, then fly up to Seattle and take the cruise(s).

We will be:
Me, Hadley
DH, David
DD, Marika (15)
DS, Rio (13)

This will be our first trip to Alaska and we are very excited.

Very pleased to meet you! Marika may want to PM mellerskidlet--she is also 15 right now (she will be 16 on the cruise).

Thanks for the welcome:goodvibes

I'll let Marika know. She rarely posts on the DIS, but when she does it is usually a meet thread. She is VulcanGirl if your DD wants to send a PM as well:goodvibes

Hi Everybody,

My name is Marika (NHdisneylover's daughter). I am very excited for the cruise. I was wondering if there would be interest in a kids/teens thread so that we all can get to know each other (Kids without their own Dis accounts can post through their parent's accounts). I know that my brother (Rockin Rio) and I would both enjoy it. I look forward to getting to know everybody.

Hi, is anyone finding any deals for flights out of Vancouver????? I just got a super cheap flight on southwest to Seattle or a cheap flight to me anyway but that flight back is a killer and is a 11:30 am flight doable??
Thanks
Lisa

An 11:30 a.m. flight out of Seattle is really pushing your luck, IMHO. I wouldn't leave earlier than 1:30--and that would make me nervous. A 3:00 flight would be much more in keeping with my comfort zone, at least.

You might want to check Alaska Airlines out of Vancouver--one advantage is that two of their one-way flights tend to be the same price as their round-trip flights.

:goodvibes thanks everyone I thought 11:30 might be pushing it I will go with the 1:48 pm flight we have decided to fly home because we have to work the next day and the bus/ train or ferry would put us getting into nashville to late. I have never booked a international flight and was a bit surprized at the prices oh well that goes with it LOL I just cant seem to decide should I book now or wait to see if the prices go down where is that crystal ball when you need it!

You might want to wait until July--I noticed that Alaska Airlines usually starts having a "Fall Fare Sale" around that time for off-season flights--September qualifies.

Another thing you might want to look into--what flight prices are to/from the Bellingham, WA airport--it is much closer than Sea/Tac to Vancouver, and is also very close to Seattle. The QuickShuttle serves that airport as well from the port, or car rentals are available. The QuickShuttle will also take you to Pier 91 from the Bellingham airport if you arrive early enough in the morning.

Oh yeas, international flights get pricey very quickly (we fully expect to spend more on airfare than the cruise  but we will come in early and spend a week with family in LA to help with that a little--we only fly to the states every other year because it is so dang pricey).

This will be our first cruise and we are very excited! It will be my husband and I and we will be celebrating our 5th anniversary.
