ok guys bear with me but I am just obsessed with getting the best deal:flower3: I have been on the Disney sight all morning researching prices and room combos etc. To keep everything easy in my example I used 2 category 10's with 3people in one room and 2 in the other and this is the price discrepencies for dates in 6/07 and 8/07
6/03.......5128.15
6/10.......5388.15
6/17.......5228.16
6/24.......5708.15
8/05........4598.15
8/12........4338.15
8/19........4188.15
8/26........3498.15

These are all over the place:sad2:
My kids don't go back to school until after labor day so I may have to reevaluate. The price difference between the last week in June till the last week in Aug is $2200:scared1: We could add on a trip to DW for that much:sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

The saddest part is that some are considered "good" schools. They have high test scores, great teachers, and are very desirable. Some have a handful of openings after siblings are all factored in. Then there are the low schoools.... lots of transient kids (short term residents, migrant farm workers, etc...) with low test scores, low parental involvement, not always in great areas. I don't know if this plan helps or hurts those kind of schools. :confused3

Who would voluntarily sign up for those schools:confused3

Many times, these schools are in areas where the parents opt for them because they are close. Other times, the people who don't enroll their kids on time get placed in these schools.:sad2:

This is going to be long...sorry! ;)

We actually have to pick schools when our kids start elementary, middle & high school. Once you're in a school, you can stay there. If you're not happy, you can try for a different school within your zone again the same year, or the following year. We have 40 elementary schools, 16 middle schools and 11 high schools. Along with specialty schools (K-8, high tech centers, charter schools, etc... we have 101 schools in our district.) Our county is divided into zones, and then sub zones. Depending on the schools closest to where you live, you have to number all the schools, from the one you want the most, to the one you want the least. The information is entered into the computer and it decides where you child will go. There are two batches of student assignment. If you don't apply during the first period, it's pretty likely that you won't get one of your top choices.

The reason for all of this? The desegration law in our area has expired. Kids used to be bussed out of their neighborhood to other schools for racial balance. Now they give you the choice of where you want you child to attend school. You have a better chance if you have a sibling already in the school that you want, or you live within close proximity. Unfortunately, we have several elementary schools near us but the middle schools and high schools aren't as close. Logan did not get his first choice for high school when we applied, but he later auditioned and got into a good school with an Arts program.

So... today was the first day of student assigment. Parents have until early March to submit their preferences. We'll find out in early April if Conor got his first choice. (I have heard horror stories where families have three kids in three different elementary schools! )

Wish us luck!

Sorry for rambling! I'd never heard of anything so wacky in my life until they started doing it here! :scared:

That's totally icky! I couldn't imagine being separated from my sisters. Not that we saw each other that much in school...but the bus ride to and from school and everything! I'm glad Montgomery County is so simple.:teeth: I feel real sorry for you though, Lisa! I'll send some Pixie Dust your way!:goodvibes :wizard: pixiedust:

Wow I'm not sure that's the fairest way to district the schools:confused3 I don't know I guess you have to deal with things the way your district does them but WOW......scary if you get on someones bad side who does the "picking"

Keep us posted on your plans. You're lucky that you can actually sail that late in August. My kids will go back in mid August next year, so my options are limited.

It's all computerized. You really have to stay on top of it though.

Some people have already gotten price quotes for summer 08. I submitted a request but haven't gotten any figures yet.

I wanted to mention it because I know you and many others can sail earlier in June and that may be more cost effective for you. I will miss you all so much I can't tell you. This is the first place I like to come to everyday:goodvibes I enjoy chatteing with all of you and want to cruise together but know we all have to do whats best for our families:grouphug:
