Who is this lady? AR is meant to be paced program based on the students ability not on her demands. That is way to much for a 6 year old plus homework. She is going to burn out and not enjoy reading.
Here's another one for you, I volunteer twice a week. She makes every kid read their entire book to a volunteer before they're allowed to test on it. So...when DD has a huge chapter book, she has to read and read and read until she has completed the whole book. THEN, they have us ask questions and THEN they log on to take their test. When I volunteered last week, I had a little boy who had a huge chapter book. Whenever the teacher was looking elsewhere, I'd help him read a page. :rotfl2: ;)

I can't agree with you more. Thing is, they have pushed this with all three of my kids. And for the most part, it has backfired. Instead of loving reading, they avoid it at all cost! On top of that reading, she has three homework sheets and there's also a huge DOLCH reading sheet, two sided, which she is supposed to practice...along with phonograms. Can you say YIKES! When I tell you that there's no time for anything but homework, I mean it. This week, dance starts for us on Tuesdays & Thursdays. We should be dead by Friday. :lmao:
Kristin had one teacher like that and it backfired big time. She would cry through homework and get so frustrated. Every other year has been great. This year they recommend 1 hour a night plus reading. That is a piece of cake. It is important for kids to have other activities other than just school. They already put their time in now let them have a life.

I agree. DD's in an accelerated class and this is the price we pay. If it gets too awful, I may have to request that she be moved down. :confused3

See? That's what I have ALWAYS done! I got an entire lecture on how I should NEVER read the A.R. book to DD. I mentioned that I'll re-read a paragraph after DD if she has struggled with it, and she yelled at me for THAT too. I honestly don't get it. :confused3 She told me to read any other book to her but not her AR book. Well, let me tell you....she has to read and test on FIVE books a week, one of which is a chapter book. When the heck would we ever have time to read a book that's NOT AR???? JEEZ LOUISE! :confused3 :furious:
That's messed up. You should sit down and talk it out with her. Cause seriously...she's in first grade...she's going to NEED help with reading. Especially 5 books and tests a week. Yikes!

That's so awful. I love reading...perfect thing to do on a rainy day or when you have nothing else to do. It's also supposed to improve your vocabulary...so I hear... :rotfl:

It falls on deaf ears. This teacher has been doing this for years and years and years. For some reason, I seem to be the only one who finds it to be a bit much! :confused3

Then parents expect too much from their kids these days. :sad2: I wouldn't have been able to manage that in 1st grade...because I had swimming and there was no time for LOTS of homework. Some yes...but not more than a book and other homework.

If you got pillow cases, what thread count would you say yours is? I'm doing a pillow case signing project and wonder, if higher the thread count...less bleeding from the pens?? :confused3
thanks.

There are literally people fighting to get their kids in the class. It's amazing. :confused3

Sorry Tae Ja, I have no idea. The eBay seller described them as cotton/poly blend. I haven't read too much about bleeding. :confused3

Maybe they don't really know just how rough it's going to be on their child. I mean come on, the kid's gotta have some kinda break from school work. They needa be running around outside and getting their excersize...not sitting inside doing their homework and getting fat.

Public Service Announcement from me

REMINDER:

If you would like to be notified of any adverse weather reports from DCL prior to crusing. please contact Purplern immediately. She will give you further details thanks!

You guys are so together and organized! :goodvibes
Well I must be going, we're having a mandatory meeting about programs (events that the RA's put on for us such as movie night, game night, girls night, etc.). I think we're supposed to be giving our input on what kind of programs we want this year.

The pillowcase she did it on seemed pretty thick. I don't know what the thread count is though. Although it can't be that expensive considering she only charged $7.99 a pillowcase.

Yes well at least you feel 12 and not that you look 12. I think I look like I'm 12. Okay well maybe I've graduated to looking 16...but not almost 20. :sad2:

Could be worse...I've always looked older. When I was in my mid-twenties, I went out for a drink with a friend who was in her early twenties and my husband who was then in his early thirties. The bartender carded my friend and my husband, who commented on the fact that he had been carded. The bartender told him, "Oh, we card anyone who looks like they're under 30." The he proceeded to take my drink order without asking for ID. I could have killed him. I've been carded three times in my entire life, and one of those times was my 21st birthday, AND my husband had to ask them to card me. :confused3

It's so funny, I really don't remember ever hearing that name. Maybe I'm TOO OLD? DH doesn't remember them either, and he grew up in the Chicago area and he's younger. :confused3 Maybe we did have them and I just don't remember them? I won't forget them now. :teeth:

No, I remember there were other options out there, so you probably just didn't get them. I never had pee chees, but I remember my best friend did. I think I had Mead folders, but I'm not sure...it was a long time ago! :rotfl:
