Hi there!
My sister and I just signed up for this cruise--we're so excited!
We booked onboard during a cruise on the Dream last November but weren't sure about the final cruise date--we had a few things fall into place last week and got on this cruise for the day after Thanksgiving--can hardly wait!

Here! Reporting for roll call after I finally figured out my avatar and signature. (what does that even mean, lol?)

I'm Princess Brit's sister, but you can call me Princess too. But seriously, we're looking forward to the cruise and vacation and no bosses and 7 days on the Wonder.
Can't wait to meet all of you! pixiedust:

Welcome Princess J J
:welcome::welcome::welcome:

How exciting to have 2 Princesses in our group. I am pleased to meet you, and glad I don't have to wait in line to meet you on board.
:P
Those lines get crazy long! I do my best to avoid them. Now if there was a line to meet another Tinker Fairy, :tink: especially one who shares my name, I would change my 'No character meets on board' rule, and wait to see her.
I will add yourname to the roll call, and I look forward to getting to know you as well.

Thought of another question: Do your kids have to be signed up for the kids clubs for you to attend the open houses or are they for anyone onboard? My kids want to hang with mommy and daddy since this is their first time but I know they would love to visit and see what goes on there.

The open house is for everyone on board. Our first day on the boat many areas will be open for everyone to take a look (areas like the Spa, Vibe {the teen area}, the adult only area, etc. ). When you visit, they will most likely ask if you want to register your kiddo's. Registering them does not mean that you have to send them to the kids area. It will get them set up in the system, and they will receive a band similar to the Magic Bands at Disney World. These bands have an RFID chip in them. This not only allows for seamless checking in and out of the kids area (for those parents that have kids that want to go to the kids area), but also enables instant locating of the kids, in case they get separated from you. So, I would highly recommend registering your kids, whether or not you expect them to go to the kids areas.
A side note, the kids area is a big part of the Disney Cruise experience for the little ones. If they do not want to go with out you, you can go in with them. However, Disney does such a good job at this area of the cruise, that the kids are drawn to it. I have heard from countless numbers of first time Disney cruisers, that this is the kids first cruise, and they are going to want to stick with us. Then, when I bump into them on the cruise, almost all of them say they can not get the kids out out the kids area because they love it so much.
I was one of those parents. When we first sailed on Disney, the boys had already sailed on Royal Caribbean, and Carnival. They hated the kids areas on those ships, and wanted to hang with us for the entire cruise. And since we are such a tight nit family, I just figured the Disney cruise would be the same. How wrong I was. Now, we have to set the rule that everyone will eat breakfast and dinner together each day. That is the only way that we can guarantee that we will see them during our Family vacation.

This weekend was our planning party for July ! party:

This months theme was FE, and I am happy to say, that I am 90% through with the FE's. All the crafting is done, now I just have to mark which cabin each item will be going to. Yeah!!!!!
It feels good to see progress on my check list.

Aw shucks :tigger:, you just caught me on a good day and a sked about one of my favorite subjects (DISNEY) :earboy2:

Oops! I forgot the Monday Forget me Not's again! :headache:

Better late than never.

This week's forget me not is pirate costumes.pirate: ARGH!
Dressing up on pirate night is not just for the kids. Everyone gets into it. So if you are pondering over whether or not to get a costume for yourself because you are worried that you will be the only adult dressed up, then you can stop worrying. Not only do adults dress up, but some of them go more over the top than the kiddos.
My costumes have ranged from Tinkerbell, to a pirate fairy, to a regular pirate. And this year I will be a pirate princess.
My family does not leave the pirate garb to just pirate NIGHT, we are in the pirating spirit all day. We all have our pirate themed shirts to wear during the day to help with our pirate mood.

Hi ya'll!

Just sharing with our cruise group that we are adding our other sister to our room on the cruise - so now there are three gals in our stateroom - we're gonna have a blast! Plus, our younger sister has never cruised Disney before, so she's super excited! (And you can add her to the Stateroom crawl as well.)

We booked our parking the other day at EZ Cruise Parking in Galveston, so that's done - now just waiting for our date to arrive so we can start booking things.
pixiedust:

We're thinking Palo one day for brunch... but I wondered if anyone had a recommendation on if they thought Palo was a good dinner option/value for three single gals? We certainly like fine dining, but have been very satisfied with the main dining experiences on all our other Disney cruises, plus we didn't really have time to book Palo on the 3 and 4 night cruises that we have done before... So let me know what you think. :D

Hope everyone is having a great week!

We are hoping to book Palo for brunch on Wednesday (not our last day at sea, but the day before ). The brunch is awesome, and well worth the cost. Dinner on the other hand.... I was not that impressed. I have never been one to get all excited about fancy meals that are smaller than a kids portion though. If that is something you like, then you may enjoy it. but either way, I don't think it is a good value.

Calling all members of the FE groups!!!:yay:

I am sending out a plea for information. Group I has 2 cabins that we still need information for, and Group II has 5 cabins that still need information. The list below has the names of the cabins I still need to hear back from. Please check the list if you are participating in the FE. If your name is on that list, please reach out to me either here on the thread, or via messaging :chat:. I have been contacted by a few FEers, and they are wanting to start getting their FEs made, and need the information to personalize the gifts.

I need some advice on Nassau. We would like to go to Atlantis. I don't want to book a beach day there and end up with weather that's too cool since it will be winter. If it ends up being a cool day we would most likely do just the tour of Atlantis. Can I wait until I'm on the ship to see the weather and book one of those excursions or will they fill up before then?

I've also heard that the lines for the buses to Atlantis through disney are long and waste a lot of time. Would we be better off to go on our own? My only concern there and the reason I would rather travel disney is that my daughter really needs a car seat for a taxi. I would feel safer with her on a disney bus but I'm concerned about the wasted time in lines. Thoughts? Thanks!!

DustyPIxie, one other concern to consider is the briefness of our stop at Nassau. My typical answer to this type of question when ever I am talking with friends and fellow cruisers is to do the research and build your own excursions. That is because you typically will get a better price, and get to meet the locals (which gives you a whole different perspective on the area you are visiting ). However, with such a limited amount of time, I would recommend doing a Disney excursion. That way you are guaranteed not to miss the boat. As for waiting to book on board, yes, you can wait until you are on board, but again, back to the short stop. I am not sure if you noticed, but after our stop was shortened, the choices of excursions decreased as well. Typically with the smaller boats, there is a wide enough variety of options to disperse the 2000 or so passengers. However, I am concerned with this stops excursions filling up fast. An alternative to waiting to book when on board, is to book as soon as your window opens up, watch the weather, and then if the weather is looking iffy, cancel when we board. This option guarantees you a spot, and gives Disney an idea of how many guests to plan on having for the excursions.
Now, if you do want to go it on your own, my recommendation would be to take a short walk down the pier and catch a ferry over to Atlantis. It is a shorter trip. The taxi takes about 45 minutes 1 way, and you have to pay the toll for the bridge.
I hope this helps.

Good advice! I'll book a beach day through disney and cancel if there is yucky weather. I assume there is no penalty for canceling? Thanks!

I would suggest adding the weather chanel app to your phone or tablet (that is if you don't already have it). Then, add Nassau and Castaway (yes, Castaway actually shows up on the app). As we get closer, vigilantly watch the weather (more so, the closer we get ). When we are counting down the days, we watch the forcasts (as far out as the 30 day forcasts ) the storm watches, and the water temperature. The best clue for what Nassau's weather will be is to check the water temps and storm activity coming off the coast of Africa the week leading up to our departure.

The following is a question I got in my PM. I figured there may be others with the same question, so I have shared my answer below.

Since I am new to the FE fun... Is there major do's and dont's? What is a popular favorite? Any unsaid rules?

I saw the list of allergies and favorite.

Also, just to be sure I have enough stuff... I should plan on daily gifts for everyone in my group? Or is it one or two families a day? What is the norm?

Thanks for everything, G

My reply:

All great questions! If you don't mind, I am going to answer you here, and post your questions on the thread and answer them there as well, for those that may have the same questions, but have not asked yet.

As for do's and don'ts, the only limitations would fall on the limits you put on yourself, or the ones the boat puts on all passengers. For example, one family may put a spending cap on the cost of the FE's per cabin at $5 (which is well with in a home crafted gift), while another family who may not be as crafty, puts a spending cap of $10 per cabin because they plan to buy pre-made gifts. As for limits set by the boat, a quick read of the faq section of the Disney cruises web site will give you a good idea of things you are not allowed to bring on board (such as, you can not bring a bottle of wine for each of the cabins, unless you have 5 to 9 adults in your cabin, and you can't bring seeds on board, because we are not allowed to take seeds through customs when we disembark, etc).

As for unsaid rules, The main one that I can think of is the same rule we give our teens as they board the boat or enter any of the parks, or start down the the path to a middle school type conversation - 'Keep it Disney'. By this I do not mean that every gift should be Disney in theme or nature, just that it should be G rated and have the 'for families seal of approval'.

Now, the question of what is popular / favorite, that is simple, if you and your family would love to get that as a gift, than chances are, so will the other cabins. For example on our last cruise, we received gifts pretty much every day, sometimes multiple gifts a day, and each and every gift was unique. We loved them all, and still use many of them. I will include a list of some of the gifts we got on the last cruise on the bottom of this response as a jump off point for FE brainstorming ideas.

The list of Allergies, favorites, and pin trader (yes or no) is included to help personalize the gifts if you so choose. If I happen to decide to give out pins to the cabins who are pin traders, I definitely would try to match their pins to their favorite character. The same would go for giving door magnets as gifts.

Your last question has a similar answer to your first question. I don't think there is actually a norm. I have been in groups with people who do one gift per cabin, and will either deliver them all on the first sea day, or spread out the delivering to a few a day. When they spread it out, they try to plan ahead for when they anticipate being in that area of the boat to deliver the gifts at that time....Side note (or a Tink moment as my family would say) For those who are considering the plan of handing out gifts for when you are in that area, a good distribution time/ day would be during a cabin crawl. If we get enough participating cabins, we should be able to make our way from one end of the boat to another.... Okay, back to the question...In the same group, there are families who will distribute several different gifts to the cabins in their group through out the cruise. As for our family, we like to try to have a gift for each cabin each day. This year we are only planning on 5 different gifts though. One other point that I have heard asked before, is do I give a gift for each person in the cabin, or is the gift for the whole cabin? On the chance of sounding redundant, think about what would be enjoyed by your family / cabin, and set that as your guide. Just as I had mentioned at the beginning of the post, the only limitations for FE giving fall upon how you limit your self, and how Disney limits it's cruisers.

I hope this helped and did not leave to more confusion. If it did lead to more confusion, I am sorry. If you want to chat about possible ideas, or need a sounding board, just let me know. I would be happy to help. Here is a list of some of the items we received on our last cruise:
beach toys
clothes pins
paracord bracelets
tins w/ candy
pins
coasters
personalized post cards to send back to friends
door magnets
pirate goodies
book marks
various different items with the group name, and logo / picture ( we named our last group, and I drew up a picture for the group)
special items for cabin celebrations (we were celebrating a graduation, so we received something for that)
That is all I can think of off the top of my head!

Have fun creating!
