Thanks to all your reviews before travelling, I feel I should post a trip report as well and am happy to answer any questions!

The cast:
Me: 37, sort-of Disney fan, looking for a family vacation that everyone can enjoy
DH: 39, not a Disney fan, but wanted a fun family trip
DD: 4.5, loves Princesses and all things Disney
DS: 2.5, thanks to an older sister, also loves all things princess and Disney, including Cars and SPIDER-MAN
Friends: married couple, in their 30s with no kids

After a four hour flight, we arrived at IAH to meet up with our driver from ALA Limo. He was right there waiting, helped us with our bags and was ready to go. Unfortunately, we didn't get the car seats requested for the kiddos due to a last minute driver switch. ALA took the cost of them off the trip ($15) but I actually expected that they were $15 each given that was the going rate when I had looked at other companies. When I checked our confirmation from ALA they didn't break down the price unfortunately so I have no way of figuring out if that was reasonable or not. At any rate, we were picked up in a nice, clean, Suburban complete with DVD screens for the kids, who ended up falling asleep on the drive to Galveston.

We checked into the Holiday Inn on the beach. It was a cold, rainy night and we were all tired out. The hotel was really average, which was fine for our purposes. We ended up just having dinner at the hotel restaurant and it was really sub-par, they were short-staffed and we waited a long time for service and food. The server was really apologetic and I felt for him but it was a tough wait for the kids, and therefore, for us. One of the reasons I chose the hotel was because of its free shuttle service to the port. However, when we got there, we found out the shuttle only ran once an hour and was completely booked for the two hours before and after our boarding time. I'm not sure if this was normal or not, but we didn't expect it, so just something to pre-book as well if you're looking at shuttle service in Galveston. Other than that, the hotel was clean, and a reasonable breakfast was included.

We arrived for our 11:30 boarding time with our friends who had a later boarding time, but it was no problem to get us all through together. Customs wasn't too bad, DS was melting down with the lines at this point however, he just needed some good sleep to reset him and we knew it would be a bit, so we all did our best to keep him going. Then I did the kids' club line with DD, which was really painful, we had filled everything out online so when we finally got to the front it was quick but with only two cast members manning this part it was a slow process to wait for everyone. We were able to get right on board and skipped any more lines for pictures or characters although Minnie Mouse was there.

Our friends had a later boarding number so we figured we would just use the app online (we're Canadian so we didn't have data on all our phones in the US), however once we were on board we discovered that you can't search for people by name on the app, so until we could start phoning rooms we were unable to meet back with our friends.

We hit a very busy Cabana's for lunch and I think the chaos was just too much for the kiddos, we were happy to get into our rooms by 1:45 (we waited a bit to avoid the mad dash at 1:30). We relaxed and unpacked for a bit and got ready for the Muster Drill, which went pretty smoothly except waiting for some people, all in all, about 20 minutes. DD decided she had to hit the restroom about 5 minutes in and DS was losing it, everyone was really accommodating in letting us run to the restroom and leave first from the drill, thank you!

We had room 7018, verandah room and it was a great set up, clean, Greyson was our host and he was exceptional. We had an air conditioner leak one night and a toilet overflow - seems the plumbing has had some issues since dry dock and both were fixed within minutes. He also ended up bringing us a pack n' play for DS' naps as it was easier for us than having the bed set up and checked in a few times to make sure that was still working okay for us.

Our first dinner was at Tiana's, which turned out to be my least favourite restaurant on the ship. We were seated at a table (11) that meant the one side had their chairs half on the main walkway from the entrance and it made for a constant moving of chairs as we tried to accommodate everyone walking in and out all night. It was also pretty loud and just too much for our tastes. The kids were super excited to see Tiana and Louis though - even though my son went to hug Louis and he kept walking right into him, knocking him down, I guess it's hard to see in that costume but it made him pretty sad! Tiana was lovely, and told DD she would only sign autographs in her green dress, when we saw her later she said she was a woman of her word and signed right away. We had Marvin and Sylvana as our servers, Marvin did a magic trick every night at the end of dinner that both my kids looked forward to and Sylvana searched out Froot Loops for us the last two mornings for breakfast as they were running low, she made a special point to find us each morning at Cabanas and even chatted with the kids so DH and I could get our own food and settle.

Day 1, in the books! The bunk beds were set up for us and I think we all slept really well the entire trip!

Day 2! We had a Frozen M&G at 12:15 and DH and I had made plans for Palo.

We woke up pretty leisurely, DH had gone to get us coffees and the kids hot chocolate so we relaxed for a bit and then hit Cabana's for breakfast. We also wanted some time to explore the ship a bit and get our bearings as we were first time Disney cruisers. We found things much more leisurely Day 2 and I was conscious not too push things too much with both kids. We made our way to Animator's for the Frozen meet and greet and had a 15 minute wait or so. They had the tablecloths all set up to look like snow and blue lighting everywhere (which made photographs hard!). Anna and Elsa were just awesome with both kids, and DS was a little disappointed that there was no Olaf, but was quickly charmed by Anna. I don't know what I was expecting, but I found the characters all incredible, they all stayed in character and had the exact personalities I would have expected, it really added to the magic for us adults too.

Then we decided to check out the kids' clubs. We signed DS in for the nursery and had no problem getting an hour time slot that morning, we went and dropped DD off at the Oceaneer's Lab for a bit and she happily skipped right in to check stuff out. (We had gone to the open house on boarding day so she knew where everything was). We went back to drop off DS for his hour and ended up waiting for another 15 minutes to get him actually in as people were crowded all around the registration desk in various stages of drop offs and pick ups, so that was disappointing as our hour of alone time was now less than 45 minutes. Just then we got a message on the Wave Phone saying that DD wanted to be picked up! Sidenote: it would be great if the clubs could use the app instead of those bulky phones. The club wasn't DD's favourite thing and remained that way for the rest of the cruise unfortunately, she was just on the younger side of the kids there, she's very social and does great at pre-school but I think it was an older kid dominated area with our particular cruise. DS loved the nursery though, he came back fed, changed and happy.

It was too cold for the pools and sitting outside still, so we all had an afternoon nap and got ready for our Palo night! It was also formal night on the cruise although everyone was in various attire, I got dressed up because I never get the chance to! We had Alex as our server and he was fantastic. We started with the entire array of antipasto (except olives), and then DH did a full seafood meal while I stuck to pasta and tenderloin with gorgonzola. DH said the calamari and scallops were among the best he had ever had. I had the caprese salad and the butternut ravioli to begin. The ravioli was flavourful but a bit too oily for my liking, the salad was fresh and the tenderloin was cooked to perfection. For dessert, the chocolate souffle - also amazing.

The kids had gone to see Moana with our friends that night and we all met back up to hear about it, they all loved it.

Day 3 was the Bippity Boppity Boutique and a princess gathering along with a half day at Key West.

We got up early to get DD ready for her princess day and she was super excited, the boutique didn't disappoint and her fairy godmother was excellent, chatting away all sorts of Disney knowledge and trivia about various parks with DH and DS and I. DD was really quiet during the process but when she was turned around she couldn't believe the transformation and since we've been home it's all she's told everyone about! We came back to our room later to find a surprise from the boutique that she hasn't taken off since. The princess gathering was super smooth, we waited maybe 5 minutes and were ushered right in the front of the line - a faster process than the Frozen M&G. There was Belle, Arial, Tiana and Cinderella they all took their time with both kids and really made it special. DD said that Belle was telling her that The Beast really likes snow and so we had to watch the movie again DD was so excited, "she was right!".

We went to guest services and checked out a stroller for the remainder of our trip and were able to use it around Key West where we wandered and browsed for a couple of hours, then back to the room for nap time.

Dinner tonight was at Animator's, and the kids did the best in this restaurant both times. There was lots for them to see, we had a great table location and it was a bit quieter. Also, I had the purseittes thanks to everyone's recommendation and they were delicious! Tonight, Sylvana cut up my food for me as DS was on my lap the whole time which was extra nice of her.

Day 4 was Castaway and Pirate day!

First, pulling into Castaway felt amazing, we were so excited to see the island and check out everything and the view didn't disappoint. What a pretty place to park a boat! We ate breakfast and got to Castaway as soon as we could to maximize our beach time. We walked a fair way to the family beach closest to the cabanas, and probably should have taken the tram since DD and DS both wanted to be carried for various parts of the walk. We managed to get a good spot and set up camp for a bit. The kids were super excited to go in the water, but it was a bit chilly when we first stepped in, we quickly adjusted and waded a far ways out as a family, DS was a little scared of the ocean having never seen it before. We brought the chairs down to the beach and I went and purchased some buckets and shovels for the kids. We didn't think we'd want to bring them from home, but we ended up getting a lot of use out of them at the beach so it was a fairly worthwhile purchase. After digging around and building sandcastles we went in search of lunch and were right by Cookies Too, the kids really enjoyed the food, but mostly the ice cream! We met up with our friends and then DH and I headed to Serenity Bay where we ate lunch. Maybe I'll get flamed for this on this forum, but we really only found the food to be okay-ish. I loved the fresh fruit and ate as much mango as possible but the BBQ itself was really average, I satisfied myself with a chocolate chip cookie though! I was also a little disappointed in the adult beach area, it was alright but there was one area totally closed off and then the rest was really shallow and any further out someone was going out on a jetski and sending people back into the beach. I'm not sure if there was something going on, but DH and I did walk to the sandbar area and saw a huge stingray but really didn't get any ocean swimming in.

After naps (now a daily habit for all of us!) we got dressed in our pirate attire and went for dinner at Tiana's and were looking forward to the pirate night party. It was really fun to see how everyone got into the theme and there was an air of excitement around it seemed. I'm allergic to shellfish so I was a bit limited on the menu selections but I did enjoy my meal as did the rest of our travelling crew. We hit up Deck 10 for the party and fireworks. The lead-up party seemed really long to us, the kids were super restless and it just wasn't our thing but when the fireworks came we all admitted it was worth the wait!

Day 5 Rainforest Room and Nassau

We got off the boat at Nassau and did some wandering. I had been there before and it was as I expected, DH hadn't but it wasn't his favourite port either, still it was a gorgeous day out and a nice walk. We got back in time to use our rainforest day passes. The room itself was quite relaxing but no one really explained the system of showers or anything to us, it wasn't until we saw someone else doing a tour the next day that we got that you were supposed to steam, shower and then sit in the tile chairs. Either way, we certainly left relaxed, I brought a book and DH had a quick snooze. The spa showers were lovely and we took our time getting ready. Dinner was at Triton's, which we had missed the first time due to our Palo reservation. It was decent, I had the parmesan chicken pasta, which was fairly plain and even Marvin noticed I didn't eat it all for the first time.

Day 6 At Sea day, Character Breakfast with Disney Jr., Spider-Man and Frozen!

We went to the character breakfast in Animator's on this day, where we met up with Doc McStuffins, Jake, Sophia the First and Mickey. DD was sad Minnie didn't make an appearance but was really excited when Mickey noticed she had brought her stuffed Minnie with her. Both kids really enjoyed the characters but the breakfast was probably the worst meal we'd had for food quality. After that we had to meet Spider-Man for DS. We went to the open house Web Warriors program and DS was just enthralled, it was really well done, only took about 20 minutes and we got autographs and a picture with Spidey.

We had long naps on this day as I really wanted to see Frozen and hoped the kids would be able to stay up later. I had nothing to worry about, we all thought it was incredibly well done, just a great performance, great sets, great actors and voices. I got chills and tears, it was fabulous.

Day 7 At Sea and more Palo

We had planned for no planning on our last day given the travel back was going to take nearly our entire Friday. It was a bittersweet day, so bittersweet that we booked another cruise for next year! I'm trying to convince DH to go on the Panama cruise but I think we may need a bit more time to save up for that one.

Day 8 Sadly leaving

We were really pleasantly surprised at how swiftly we were able to debark, our friends weren't quite as lucky and got stuck in a longer line but we all did the express check out and were off the ship and on the road by 9AM.

Final thoughts/changes for next time:
- we would have booked a couples' massage instead of just getting the rainforest passes next time, we found for the price, it was okay but for the price of all the passes we used we could have had a massage and use of the facilities anyway. Also, I had thought the rainforest room looked out onto the ocean for some reason but it was just an interior room.
- the food was...okay, but plentiful, we both found lunches at Cabana's to be hit or miss however, the food stations by the pool were all excellent. We both thought Palo was amazing and certain elements of the main dining we'd order again (beef wellington comes to mind!)
- we were really glad that we didn't push ourselves or the kids too hard, we were all able to enjoy ourselves, so we missed out on a few character meets and the Santa Claus line was just not worth our patience or blood pressure levels. It's too bad that they don't have ticketed Santa meets as well, but we ended up walking out on this one!
- we would book a different hotel in Galveston, it was just okay but I was disappointed in the lack of shuttle service and nearby dinner places
- we did have some water issues with our stateroom as well, I remember reading about that on a different thread, while they were swiftly corrected and resolved, it does seem like there's some problems since the dry dock as we had someone come by and ask if our cold water was working twice.
- DH absolutely loved the verandah, I think I would have been okay with just a porthole room personally but we both learned what we could and couldn't live without and that's his priority, I enjoyed the split bathroom.
- Castaway was gorgeous but we would have been happy with a beach day nearly anywhere, next year we booked a cruise that doesn't even have a Castaway stop for that reason, I realize we're in the minority.
- I was a bit unsure about the Merrytime theme. I like Christmas and all but I really didn't want seven whole days of non-stop Christmas only to come back and have another week of it, and it wasn't at all. You could participate in as much or as little as you wanted and the decorations were really tasteful but not everywhere.
- I now get it, the Disney service was unbelievable. We didn't get a single no to a single request, we had very few people that were anything less than friendly (actually only the retail store staff, nice but not really friendly). We felt more than a few times people went out of the way for us and most importantly for our kids.

double post, sorry! now i understand what people mean when they say that, LOL

Thanks for taking the time to write this up! We're sailing on the Wonder one week from tomorrow and are SO excited!! Well, the adults are excited... as the kids won't find out until they get a call from Goofy on Christmas morning. :) I appreciate the perspective of non-Disney/sort-of Disney fans, b/c my parents are coming with us and would pretty much fit into those categories. They really like cruising, though, and are happy to try a new line.

Was getting into Frozen hectic for you? I know my son isn't going to be happy to wait a long time for it; he's way, way over Frozen. I've only heard great things about the show, though, so I'm going to push him to see it. Just want to know what to expect, time-wise.

As non-Disney-obsessed folks, what were your impressions of the other shows, if you saw them?

Have a great trip! I'm jealous, and can't wait to go again.

Frozen had three seatings, 2:30, 5:30 and 8:30. We went to the 8 one after dinner and were told that the 2 o'clock one is the busiest. We lined up at 7:30 for the 8:30 showing and were the fourth or fifth in line on our side. We were let in by 8:00 and the line-up behind us pretty much filled the theatre. By the time the show started it was definitely packed. Several CM told us to anticipate an hour wait for the evening shows and a bit longer for the afternoon one.

Our friends and kiddos went to see Dreams and were all raving about that one as well, they said it was really emotional and my DS was excited because the Beast and so many other Disney characters were in it too.

Despite all my research, I had not read that there are 3 showings of Frozen! I had no idea! We have late dining, purposefully. My kids are 8 and 11, and we're on the west coast, so main dining is just too early for us. But it sounds like we'll be avoiding the 2pm anyway... I am hoping the 5:30 will be the least crowded just b/c late dining isn't as popular, but man - one hour to wait. So everyone literally waits in a line for 30min before they even let you in? Were entire families doing that, or just one or two people per family group? I know seat saving is a huge no-no, but I'm not sure that applies to the lining up part prior to entering the theater... I'm having a hard time picturing entire families standing in one place for 30min followed by 30 more minutes waiting in their seats. Just the potty breaks alone, ha!

I think the 5:30 is the least crowded.

Yup, there was a 30 minute wait outside and then 30 minutes inside the theatre. There was really very few people saving seats, but the lines to get in were all just a family member or two which no one had any issue with. A few minutes before we could get in people were texting the rest of their parties, so there was really very little seat saving, if any, that I saw in the theatre.

Perfect, thank you! I think we will do exactly that - have a couple adults do the standing in line part (well, everyone except one adult and the 8yo!) and make sure everyone else joins us a few minutes before the doors open. Just didn't want to anger anyone by doing so, so I'm glad that's the norm!
