Disney Wonder ~ Alaska ~ July 16, 2012

Carla and CruisingFamily4,
Welcome! So glad to finally have some action on this thread. Are you both familiar with the Fish Extender "game"? If so, are you interested in participating? Its a small group now, but it would still be fun!

Let me know

Do we have any interest in FEs? I see that there is not much chatter, but it might be fun with just a few of us.

We just booked today. My wife Julie and I are going to be on this cruise. This is our third cruise to Alaska but our first on Disney cruise.

Big Disney fans. We just finished 1 year with Premiere passes and did four trips to Disneyland and one to WDW during the year. We have two sons but since Julie is a teacher we are looking forward to a kid-free vacation.

We're booked the whale watching and glacier excursion in Juneau (which isn't a great town to browse/shop in). We were looking forward to brunch at Palo but it appears this is already booked. We're hoping there will be some slots available upon boarding (perhaps this is wishful thinking).

We have booked our Skagway trip on the Bus/Train tour. We are not doing it through Disney.

Anyone, have any great advice for the other ports??
Also, we will be in Seattle for 5 days prior to the cruise, anyone have suggestions on what we should do - besides needle - we have that on the schedule.

We've taken the White Pass railway tour into the Yukon twice on past tours from Skagway. It's kind of programmed (the lunch is at a place that does nothing but cater to cruise tourists), but I really enjoy it. Great scenery and after all how often can you say you went to the Yukon! Usually on the way back there are several stops for photos (you can see some from our trip in 2009 here: http://www.kevdo.com/holiday2009/2009/Photos.html).

Juneau isn't a very colorful city, so it's a great place to take excursions from. We very much like the charm of Ketchikan - this place is so charming. Lots of cute shops and things to see. The lumberjack show here right off the cruise terminal is lots of fun too.

As for Seattle, if you're into it the Science Fiction Museum near the Space Needle can be fun. So too the Experience Music Project. We also liked the Science museum there too. We also did the Underground Tour and that was really interesting and very unique. The aquarium near the harbour isn't very big but can be fun if that's your thing. We also did the Ducks tour and that's also a really great thing to do with all the water features of Seattle. In fact, the Ducks tour might be a good thing to do early in your trip so that you have a sense of the city.

As for Pike's Place Market, yes this is very touristy but still lots of fun.

I would love to do FE! Even if it is a small group I think it would be great. I am traveling with two other families who are interested.

Hi all,
I am getting so excited for this Alaskan Cruise!! We have done DCL many times, but I've never been to Alaska.

I do think it's kinda weird that there is not a lot of action on this thread. I have looked at the other DCL Alaska threads and there seems to be a lot of discussion.

Anyway, I have only noticed a few of you are interested in doing the Fish Extenders. I agree with Tinkerbell0611, I think it would be fun even with a small group, or even to just exchange with adults is fun too.

I have made a list of everyone on this site and what they have said as to doing the FE. If your name is on this list, but there is no response, please either post if you are interested or not, or feel free to PM me.

Hi everyone,

Sorry I haven't been at all active here, life has been throwing me some curves - a whole lot of them! - and all I'll say is I soooooo need this cruise!

This is our first cruise, Disney or otherwise, so we're new to the idea of the Fish Extenders. We've checked it out online and my kids think it would be fun to participate in. So let me know how I need to sign up or whatever, and we're in!

I think you'll love doing the FE. below is a website with some information about the FE. I'll add you to the list. You'll notice on the website that the thing you hang outside the door is very fancy, but no worries, you can use anything. We just used a shoe bag purchased at Dollar Tree and put our names on it.

Let me know if you have any other questions!!
SEe ya!

I have sent private messages to everyone on this thread. Once I hear back from them I will post a list of all people participating in the Fish Extenders. I will need your cabin numbers if you are participating. I hope to hear from everyone soon. I think we should set a deadline of June 30. That should give everyone time to get gifts together. I'll keep you all posted.

I know it will be fun!!

We are getting to Seattle a few days early. A friend of mine sent me this with ideas of things to do in Seattle. I'd thought I'd share if anyone else is going early or staying after the cruise.

Here is a list of some fun things to do in Seattle.

1. http://www.pikeplacemarket.org/ - You have to go to the market of course. This is easy to find but gets pretty busy the later in the afternoon you go.

2. http://www.ridetheducksofseattle.com/ - The tour will take you around the downtown Seattle area and show you some local sights and then it will take you into the water in Lake Union. Kids love it and its pretty educational!

3. http://www.seattlecenter.com - includes many things to do: http://www.pacificsciencecenter.org/ - lots of stuff to explore and they have the King Tut exhibit right now; http://www.spaceneedle.com/; http://thechildrensmuseum.org/ but this may be too young for you guys, http://www.chihulygardenandglass.com/ - this is supposed to be amazing; http://www.empmuseum.org/index.asp - may be a little boring for the kids. You basically walk through a museum with headphones which provide information on the exhibits. Cool but you have to be really into the history of music and its pretty time consuming.

4. http://www.seattlemonorail.com/ - as far as transportation, particularly to the Seattle center the monorail is pretty easy and kind of fun.

5. http://www.seattleaquarium.org/ - the kids may enjoy this and only takes about 1-2 hours.

6. www.undergroundtour.com - this looks interesting but I have not had a chance to do it. Its a tour of the "original" Seattle.

7. http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/ - A great activity is to take a ferry ride to Banbridge Island. You can walk on and once you reach your destination you can walk around and there are many places to eat and also parks near the ferry dock. You can also take a foot ferry to West Seattle and there is a wonderful beach there and lots of places to eat.

8. Pier 57 - good place to walk around and grab a bite to eat and/or ice cream. Iva's Acres of Clams is great. They also have lots of souvenir shops around here.

9. http://www.osf.com/ - The Old Spaghetti Factory is a great/easy restaurant for kids.

10. http://seattle.mariners.mlb.com/schedule/index.jsp?c_id=sea; http://www.soundersfc.com/matchday/schedule.aspx - depending on when you are here you can catch a Mariner game or maybe a Sounder (soccer) game.

Just a little FYI I got from Disney:

Tuesday, July 17 is Formal night
Saturday, July 21 is Semi-formal night

I have been told twice now that there is not a pirate nightpirate:

WHAT?!!? My wife bought eye patches and a fake mustache already! I may have to bring them anyway, since I will be following Capt Jack's lead and looking for good rum to drink.

We've done the Ducks and Underground tours and definitely recommend them. The Ducks is pretty unique since there is lots of water in Seattle to traverse.

Note that the Ferris Wheel will open on Pier 57 on July 4.

The monorail is a nice ride from Seattle Center and then a short walk (all downhill) to Pike's Market.

Okay, I just called again this morning and was told this time there would be a pirate night - Friday night in Juneau. There will not be fireworks though.

I guess better to be prepared than not.!
