Disney Withdrawal Survival Guide: An Oct 2013 PTR - Soundtrack Included- NEW 08/27

Ok, just gotta tell ya...... Avocado in the drink still sounds a bit..... well..... icky! But maybe I'll take a chance and try it anyway. Definitely have to try the Pina Colava, I'm a huge Pina Colada fan, so that sounds great!

I don't really have a favorite drink at Disney, weird, because I have a favorite everything else!

I had the same reaction to the avocado margarita. It took another diser Sam33 to convince me. I don't like avocado in any other situation but it really makes for a smooth margarita.

All those drinks look so good! Our last trip I couldn't drink, but I am really looking forward to having my Island Sunset at Kona in January. :goodvibes My DH loves the Tennessee Honey, it is his go to drink at WDW and is really easy to make at home.

The Island sunset sounds delicious. Ive already decided to have that at Ohana in October.

Did someone say cocktails?? You got my attention! :upsidedow

That avocado margarita has been on my list for some time and I'm so ready to order one of those next trip. Do these have any melon liquer in them? They sound really good.

I've had the Tokyo Sunset (too much melon in it for my taste) at Teppan Edo, Pina Colada's at Yak & Yeti, Champagne in France, and several Bloody Mary's at Rose & Crown! Oh, and wine with dinner!

Ok... I am trying to catch up on some PTR today. I read through all of yours so far! I love thinking of ways to change around our resort bookings.... We stay DVC so generally, I don't, but I come up with different point scenarios and see what I can manage and what's available. :) and I laughed pretty good at your scientific names to the restaurants.... Beourguestosaurus! I literally LOL'd! I am always tweaking ADR times, it's actually how I managed to get BOG the other day for our early September trip.

So Newark has an Earl of Sandwich now?? Go figure, I move away and they actually start putting stuff into that airport! I actually used to not live so far from there and would visit the neighboring IKEA often! The last time I flew out of there we were stuck for hours waiting and yep- nothing tasty to eat or munch on. Speaking of food.... I have the same cookbook! We picked it up on our honeymoon.... I am actually very fond of the recipe thread here on the boards, and allears.... I love making Disney food and it helps with both anticipation and withdrawal!! And the cocktails.... (sigh) one of these days I can enjoy a few when my kids are older - right now they are co conspiring ninjas and I need to always be 110% For me, I tend to steal away with a bottle of wine after they fall asleep.... Hehe....

I didn't participate earlier so here I go!

Name: Sarah
Number of visits to WDW: I lost count! :scared: 15, 20? Maybe more? My parents bought into DVC in 1993, we also lived there for a bit.... Soooooo you get it.
If you could only visit one attraction: WDW RR, love it :) followed by every other MK attraction tied for 2nd!
If you could only meet one character: Mickey :)
If you could stay at any resort: I really have a yearning to stay at BLT.... Or CR.... Just to be so close to MK!!
If you could only eat one snack: The eclair from the pastry shop in France....
If you could only have one drink: This, I don't know.... Wine from Tutto Gusto Wine Cellar? I'm thinking that would be the experience I am looking for!
I know I am a Disney addict because: I prefer the term enthusiast...... ;)

Ooo also wanted to add, I am a Nikon girl too, I have an old D70 but I am hoping to see a D7100 soon :) the photography board on here offers a lot of insight into photography in WDW. I am also a fan of my iPhone camera as well, with out it, I wouldn't have the cute impromptu videos of my kids at bedtime, funny stuff they have done, or just the cute cuddly moments that don't last forever. It's handy, and has basically replaced P&S :)

I discovered photo books after our last trip - really awesome. I actually want to take the past almost 4 years of pictures and create one, and then do them yearly as a way to document our lives. I will of course have ones specifically dedicated to our Disney vacations! :)

So I don't drink alcohol at all (hate the taste!) so here are MY top 5 drinks at WDW. I may have to repeat some since I don't know if I've tried 5...

1. Vanilla milkshake
2. Rootbeer float
3. The watermelon Coke in Club Cool
4. Virgin stawberry daquri
5. Coke

:rotfl:

So boring. I'll have to make it my mission to try new and exciting non-alcoholic drinks this trip!

Trying the Grey Goose is one of my top things to try on my trip in November! I hear people RAVE about it & I can't wait to give it a go!!!

I think that the avocado margarita needs to be added to my list of must-haves for this trip. Along with the Pina Colvada.

My fave drinks at WDW are the grand marnier slushy, whatever the yummy red wine is at the South Africa food & wine booth, champagne w/ strawberries at the Grand Floridian tea room, beer flight at Rose & Crown ....

great. now I'm thirsty too!

I think they do have the melon liquor. You really need to try one out! I'm not a wine drinker but I'm thinking of trying to get into it before we go to food and wine.

Nice to meet you Disney Enthusiast (cough addict) Sarah! Apparently it has an EOS but I will only know for sure once we get there. I really hope the website is right.

I'm sure you enjoy that stolen moment with the wine though :P Tutto Gusto looks like a very nice relaxing place for a glass of wine (If only I drank wine).

I've been creeping on the photography board for a while but haven't really posted. I agree about the Iphone camera, it is perfect for those little everyday moments that make great memories.

Photo books look great. I'm hoping to eventually complete one and order it. I'm sure it'll make for a great souvenir.

Could we maybe count a Dole Whip on a list of non alcoholic drinks?

I'm planning on making a future post specially for non-alcoholic drinks. I don't usually drink much (except for Pina Colavas). I'll have a taste (or two) of whatever Jess is drinking but if there is a virgin version available I will usualy order that. A vanilla Milkshake ranks pretty high on my list of favourite things.

Trying the Grey Goose is one of my top things to try on my trip in November! I hear people RAVE about it & I can't wait to give it a go!!!
Yup it is a must have! Do not I repeat DO NOT miss it!

I may or may not (but really I am) be drinking a homemade Pina Colava right now. That is some good stuff! I gotta try the beer flight at Rose & Crown. We particularly like british beers so it should be good.

Mmmmm a Pina Colava sound really good for the next week end (again)!!! It just make me want to be in Disney when I drink it. We should really try and by try I mean must do a Avocado margarata real soon because, that's the drink I miss the most right now, and I also miss that queso cheese (no clue how to write that).. We could try doing that too.. Having a lot of disney craving right now!!!pixiedust:

Soundtrack: Escape with some country music

We haven't had many days of sunshine lately so we felt like having our own escape at home. Nothing says escape like a good Disney style drink (especially when the drink includes some a-l-c-o-h-o-l ) So last week we put on our thinking caps and drinking goggles and created our own...

:banana:PINA COLAVA

I've mentioned this drink once or twice before. It's the one drink I really associate with relaxing at WDW (probably because I brought it back to my room and sipped as a I fell asleep for a mid day nap)

Here it is in all it's Petal's Poolside bar glory.

We found a recipe online but where missing half the ingredients so we improvised.

So here's what you need for the OrangeJuice Special Pina Colava.

For the Pina Colada
1 Can of Bacardi Pina Colada Mix
1 Bottle of Rum (preferably Raspberry Rum but it's not available here in NB)
Lots of Ice
Blender

We simply followed the instructions on the can

Pour the can

Add the Rum (Make Captain Jack Sparrow proud)

Some Ice

Get your wife to do the hard work

Until it is nice and smooth

Ok so that part wasn't special BUT we decided to add home made raspberry purée to our recipe.

For the Raspberry Coulis I turned to my good friend Martha Stewart.
http://www.marthastewart.com/338850/raspberry-coulis

18 Oz of Raspberries
1/2 Cup of water
3/4 Cup of sugar

Mix it all together in a medium size saucepan.

Bring to a boil then reduce heat

Let it simmer 8-10 minutes then it's into the blender (let it cool completely first)

While it cooled we had a nice lobster supper. This is why I love living in the maritimes.

After it's blended make sure you pass it through a colander to get the seeds out.

Once it's all ready we layered the pina colada with the raspberry coulis.

Then we mixed it all together

Et voila!

Review: Well I'm no bartender but it wasn't bad. It just wasn't quite the same as it's Disney counterpart. I think it missed out on the raspberry flavored rum and I think the WDW version is smoother. Regardless it went down very well.

Anyone else tried to make their own Disney drinks at home? If so please share your recipes! Miam!

As a side note: Jess and I will be going to Disney's Beauty and the Beast on tour tomorrow. I'll be back with a review soon enough.

Thanks for reading :)

Definitely subbing for this one...what a great PTR! I just started my first PTR and love seeing what others are doing with theirs. I love the salute to Disney drinks and your creativity for trying to recreate Disney at home...we need to be doing more of that!

I know it's not exactly convenient if you're not staying there, but a trip to Old Key West is a must for any Disneyphile/cocktail lover. There is a tiny bar on their boardwalk there called The Gurgling Suitcase, which is open air and overlooks the canal. There is also a rum drink called a Turtle Krawl which is magnificent..give it a try sometime!

We are going the week after you, so I just did my ADR dance last week and scored everything...which I know isn't much of a triumph considering the lower crowds during our week, but it felt good nonetheless.

You are going to love Food & Wine and seeing the parks decorated for fall. Any plans to hit up MNSSHP? DH and I did it last year and it was tons of fun if you're the Halloween costume types!

Hey Thanks for subbing :) Glad you're enjoying it so far. I'm having a blast writing it and watching my countdown go down. I would love to check out OKW at some point just for the Turtle Krawl. I had heard about it a bit in the past and it sounds Delish.

Low crowds or not, getting up early to deal with the WDW website is a win in my book :P

I'm really looking forward to Food & Wine, it's been a dream of ours to visit during that time of year. I don't think that we'll hit the MNSSHP, we are only there 5 nights and really want to focus on Epcot. We're going to save it for a future trip. We are hoping to catch Hallowishes from the Poly Beach after our Ohana diner.

You'll love Food & Wine, there are so many great choices and the weather will be more temperate than August.

I believe menu for F&W should be released in August, which just provides more unnecessary things to plan, discuss and change... so you'll love it!

That looks yummy!
The only thing I've ever made at home is a vanilla milkshake... Vanilla ice cream + milk. Blend. Et voila! Lol
Ooh I can't wait to hear about Beauty and the Beast!

Yum! That sounds like a really tasty drink - will have to try to put that together this summer at some point.

We saw Beauty & the Beast last weekend - that was my big Christmas present this year :) I haven't had a chance to post about it yet, but we (I)loved it!

Just wanted to drop in and say hi! :wave2:

I was stuck in a strange mix of stages 4 and 5 of DWS for a very long time. It would seem as though the longer you spend in WDW, the longer you suffer from DWS...strange, really.

Anyway, just wanted to say that I'm finally starting to move away from stage 4 and more into stages 5 and, *gasp* 6, which means I'll likely be returning to the DIS more often

EDIT:

Just got all caught up, and wow! It seems like you guys are going to have a blast, staying at the Beach Club and everything! Loving the tips and lessons "themes", especially the ones about the re-created disney food...makes me want to look for those recipes. Though, we did make our version of Chai Cream's you used to be able to get at Sanaa. They turned out really good...the second time round

Anyway, for fun I thought I'd include the intro thing you guys did in your second post:

Name: silverhaze269
Number of visits to WDW: 6
If you could only visit one attraction: Haunted Mansion
If you could only visit one restaurant: O'hana, though Be our Guest comes in as a very close second
If you could only meet one character: Stitch
If you could stay at any resort: Though I would love to stay at the POLY, the buses would drive me NUTS, so, either the Wilderness Lodge or Animal Kingdom Lodge gets my vote.
If you could only eat one snack: Cinnamon and Sugar glazed almonds found at the Animal Kingdom
If you could have one drink: Is it terrible that I've never had an alcoholic beverage at Disney? I need to change this.
I know I'm a Disney addict because: Whenever someone mentions "Disney" my ears perk up and I get goosebumps. You know you've got it bad when you almost tear up just describing it to people, or when you offer to help plan a total stranger's trip. Yeah...I'm a Disney Addict.
