Disney Withdrawal Survival Guide: An Oct 2013 PTR - Soundtrack Included- NEW 08/27

That piña colava looks amazing! Speaking of the resort changing bug, we are looking at different resorts and different time frames for our next trip! We've stayed at both Riverside and French quarter and I've stayed with family at Saratoga Springs so now after reading about your experience renting points I might look into it as well! :) It's neat that you attend Dal! I went to St. Mary's :)

Oh my gosh! This is such a great PTR! I wasn't paying attention to your ticker earlier ... sorry I missed out!!

Ok, your "Anger" and "Bargaining" stages of withdrawals totally are relatable!

I'm late but I'm playing!

Name: Emmysmommy - Brenda
Number of visits to WDW: 6
If you could only visit one attraction: Tower of Terror
If you could only visit one restaurant: California Grill (not sure if/when they open this fall if that will still be true!)
If you could only meet one character: Tigger
If you could stay at any resort: That's a hard one... going with our standby - BLT
If you could only eat one snack: Carrot Cake cookie at DHS
If you could have one drink: Bloody Mary at Rose & Crown Pub
I know I'm a Disney addict because: Moi an addict?? Never!

I'm subbing for all the fun!!! :)

Can't wait to read more. You will be leaving just before we arrive. And AOA looks amazing maybe someday I will have to stay there

Oh man, that soup looks SOOOOOO GOOD!!!!

And yhea on getting in at AoA. Fun stuff!

It tastes as good (if not even better) than it looks. So far my experience has been good with DVC rental but until I check in I'm sure I'll be anxious.
Nice to meet a Halifax alumni :)

Thanks for joining and playing along! I'm surprised you haven't switched to YC after you're upgrade on your last trip. BLT does look amazing though, the view is gorgeous (from what I've seen on photos). I wouldn't of pegged you as an addict either :rolleyes2.

Thanks for reading. Where are you staying? It does look great, we walked through it last year and it's breathtaking.

Oh man, that soup looks SOOOOOO GOOD!!!!

And yhea on getting in at AoA. Fun stuff!

It was SOOOO GOOOD! and even better warmed up the next day.

Lessong Number Five: Predicting what you'll want to eat 180 days from today.

This is a favourite activity of the common Disney Addict/ Disney Withdrawal sufferer. At a certain point prior to visiting WDW, the DWS/DA will spend countless hours in a state of delirium during which they think that they are actually 180 days in the future. They are obsessed about what they will want to eat at that time. This usually manifest itself as:

* Comparing multiple crowd calendars and applying advance mathematics to decide which park will be visited on what day.

* Constructing large paper diagrams, cue cards, algorythms, and NASA-level complexity excel spreadsheets to allow oneself to observe all possible arrangements of restaurants.

* Engaging in intense study of something known as "food porn" and feeling somewhat ashamed of this.

* Usually accompanied by another syndrome called "Eyes bigger than your stomach" during which the DWS may think that it is rational and possible to fit in 3 table service, one counter service and 5 snacks into one day. This syndrome is particularly worse when the DWS is participating in "The Dining Plan".

If is important to note that exactly 180 days prior to visiting WDW, the Disney Addict/DWS will almost always demonstrate the very bizarre behaviour of getting up at an ungodly hour with planning binder in hand to sit at a computer and reserve seating at the optimal restaurants (as established during the preperation phased described above). Participating in this usually results in a mix of jubilation and/or crushing depression depending on the results.

Although this behaviour may appear bizarre out of context, it is actualy in the advantage of the Disney Addict because they are now secure in their dining reservations (until they hit lesson #2 Change your mind and Lesson #4 Change your mind again), while those who did not participate in this ritual are destined to eat hamburgers and hot dogs for the duration of their trip.

So that being said my ADR day is tomorrow and the day after (split stay :crazy2: ) Here's what I have in mind for ADR.

Day 1: Arrival Day, Supper at 'Ohana 7:30pm
Day 2: No ADR at this time, Supper will be eating around the world
Day 3: MK day with hopefully Kona Café 7:30, Liberty Tree Tavern 11:30 Be Our Guest (Anytime)
Day 4: Late ADR at Shula's (Nov 2013 is the 5 year anniversary of when we started dating so it'll be our early anniversary supper :))
Day 5: Last full day: No ADR so we can enjoy F&W
Day 6: Departure day: 8:00AM at Cinderella's Royal Table

That's what I hope to accomplish tomorrow and Wednesday. I'll be back Wednesday to let you guys know if it was a success or a failure.

Before I finish I though I would indulge in a little bit of food porn (Am I the only one who gets uncomfortable with that word?)

Cheddar Cheese Soup - Le Cellier

Zeppole Di Catarina - Via Napoli

Buffet plate - Chef Mickey

Flatbread - California Grill

Banana dessert - California Grill

Macademia Nut Pineapple Pancake - Kona Café

Any recommendations for dining? What are your can't miss reservations? Do you suffer from ADRitis or do you prefer to wait and see? How do you decide what you will want to eat 180 days from now?

Thanks for reading :) pixiedust:

ice to meet you Alysa, I'm at Dalhousie Medical School. What is Pimm's Cup at Rose and Crown? I'm always up for a new beverage. Love your Disney movie night idea. I watch Disney movies often but lately I've been stuck on Dr. Who. We've been watching one (or multiple) episode every few days
Dalhousie :thumbsup2 Pimm’s Cup is still the traditional drink of Wimbledon. It's gin, liqueur, fruit juice and spice. Then you add lemon, cucumber and maybe gingerale. Sounds crazy but it is lovely and fresh. I am actually a huge whovian. We actually made a Disney movie night over into a Doctor Who one and I was able to tie it into Disney in my pre-trip! What episode are you on?

Our supper today consisted of Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup! Miam :cloud9:
…That's our little piece of Disney for the day. Have you guys tried any Disney recipes at home?
Hey! We did this for our Great Mouse Detective night! Good, eh? We've also done the Crystal Palace Stuffed French Toast and a few others, also in out pre-trip.

Before I finish I though I would indulge in a little bit of food porn (Am I the only one who gets uncomfortable with that word?)
WHAT ARE YOU DOING??!?! I was happy with my four! Now I am full of doubt! Should I add Tepan Edo? But I love the GF Cafe! And I really wanted to try the new Chef Paul. **! No more of those photos!

First of all, your updates always make me literally laugh out loud. :thumbsup2 My DH just wandered into the room wondering what I was giggling about.

Also, I'm one behind. Here we go.

But then...Jess read Teekathepony's Trip report...
"You didn't tell me the rooms where amazing" "Why didn't you mention that the showers are like being under the sea" "Her pictures of the Lion King section are amazing, even though I've walked through that section I never realized how pretty it was"

So as you can see (Thanks Wendy :P) I had to pick up the phone and call the most magical call center in the world. (Seriously, where else do you have to fill out a survey for Mickey and get told to have a Magical day.) After a few quick questions (and a request for a King size bed)

Voila!

I refreshed my browser window and the icon changed from POP to AoA

As much as I complain about their website at times, yesterday was very smooth.

So we are back to plan 1. Spend the first night at AoA before hopping over to Beach Club Villa for the rest of the trip. Anyone else been caught by the resort changing bug?

MUAHAHAHA! It's all because of ME! hahaha, too funny, but I'm glad you get to spend a night at AoA. :thumbsup2

Yes I have ADRitis. I'm currently experiencing the anxiety that comes with pre-180 day weeks.
Your ADR choices look great! Hope it's working out for you.
We don't have any really definite can't miss meals. We have lots we love, but we're still trying to try something new each trip.

Hehe food porn.

The reference to "food porn" does not bother me in the least..... When you get that wonderful bite of food (or sip of drink) that causes you lose the ability to form actual words and forces you to make noises such as "mmmmmmm" or "oooooooo" ..... In my family, we call that a culinary orgasm :dance3: :littleangel:

If you could only visit one attraction: Tower of Terror
If you could only visit one restaurant: Be Our Guest - I have my ADR for October and plan on going for Lunch as well
If you could only meet one character: Belle
If you could stay at any resort: Port Orleans French Quarter
If you could only eat one snack: beignets
If you could have one drink: Grand Marnier Slushie
I know I'm a Disney addict because: I can relate just about anything in life to WDW or a Disney movie. #disneynerd

we're going in October too, but the front half of the month!

Joining in! I will have to catch up later... Somehow I've fallen behind on my DISing!!

Nice to meet another whovian :) We are on series 2 - The Impossible Planet. Loving it so far.

We did the Crystal Palace Pooh Puffs. They where good too!

Can't promise no more photos :P I'm actually predicting lots more food pics in the near future.

It really was your fault that we switched to AoA! Not that I mind, I'm pretty excited to try it out. Im pretty sure they have the same poolside drinks so I'm happy. ADRs worked out great, I'll update soon with the results.

Glad I can make people laugh. I enjoy being silly on here.

You made me laugh out loud. I agree with you that I enjoy my food. Some people eat to live...well, I live to eat.

Nice to meet you Abby, Any fan of TOT is a friend of mine :) I've never been to POFQ but it's on my must try in the near future list. It looks like a very relaxing resort. Glad to meet someone else who'll be there around the same time. I can't wait for F&W schedule to come out! Are you planning on going to the Halloween party?

Joining in! I will have to catch up later... Somehow I've fallen behind on my DISing!!

Thanks for joining in :) Don't you have it when life interferes with your Disney-ing ? :hyper:

Your report so far is so much fun...I have a lot in common with your/thekeeper!

Name: Benji2012/Ellen
Number of visits to WDW: Nearing 20!
If you could only visit one attraction: Tower of Terror
If youcould only visit one restaurant: Jiko or Raglan Road
If you could only meet one character: Mickey
If you could stay at any resort: The Polynesian
If you could only eat one snack: Sweet creme cheese pretzel (Thought truth be told I really don't eat many snacks so this is one of the few I remember!)
If you could have one drink: Grey Goose Slushie (with avocado marguarita close second:
I know I'm a Disney addict because: Wishes soundtrack makes me cry too! But also because I have spent all of my free time in the last two days researching resorts for a trip that is 16th months away!

Thanks for joining in, I'm glad your having fun! :-) We do have lots in common. Jiko is on our must try list. There will never be enough days in Disney to get through all the restaurants we want to try. Thats why we keep going back. 16 months away eh? Not bad, did you figure out where you want to stay?

But you see, that's my goal...to eat at every TS on property!

We are DVC, so we have a few trips at our usual spots in between, but the trip in 16th months, the part that's on my own...I'm leaning towards a split stay at a moderate and a deluxe. Right now I'm loving the idea of CSR/Poly, but tomorrow it might be POR/CR! :rotfl2:

Loving your ADR list. Shula's is towards the top of my must do's, as are 'Ohana and CRT. Can't believe I've never been to CRT yet! (I've done 'Ohana breakfast but not yet made it to dinner!)

That is an awesome goal! I L-O-V-E Disney dining.

What are your usual spots? No rush deciding for 16 mo I guess haha. Its so much fun to look at resorts. We've changed our minds twice already.

You have to try ohana supper. Its our favorite so far. Not sure about CRT it sounds a bit overated but we really want to dine inside the castle.

POFQ is, IMHO, perfect! It's the smallest of the mods, so any of the buildings are just a couple minutes from the main building & bus stops, the buildings and landscaping are gorgeous, you can hop a boat over to DTD ... I will have a hard time staying anywhere else!

We are doing MNSSHP - and dressing up :) MNSSHP is a must-do for me, such a fun night!

It's a lofty goal! I've actually slowed down on it a bit!

That is an awesome goal! I L-O-V-E Disney dining.

What are your usual spots? Jiko, Flying Fish, Raglan Road, California Grill, The Wave, San Angel Inn and Sci Fi are probably the places we have eaten the most; though they are not necessarily all favorites! (I'm specifically looking at Sci Fi...:sad2:.) It depends on the group who is going, I've traveled with a variety of people. No rush deciding for 16 mo I guess haha. But I have to book in 10 months! :rotfl2::lmao: Its so much fun to look at resorts. We've changed our minds twice already. I'm sure I'll change my mind a 100 times.

You have to try ohana supper. I just made reservations fof our September weekend! :woohoo: Its our favorite so far. Not sure about CRT it sounds a bit overated but we really want to dine inside the castle. Yep, that's my reasoning too!
