Disney with a 6 week old

My DDs first trip was when she turned 8 weeks (and she was my first). I also had a scheduled c-section. Taking her then was a piece of cake. I was also traveling with my mom, so that may have helped a little. But I was nursing and feeding her was a breeze. I did ask my ped. and he said there was no problem with her going. We went right after Thanksgiving, so during the same timeframe. We used hand sanitizer before we touched her. I changed her in the stroller so she didn't get germy from the baby changing tables. She was the least germiest of all of us!!

I say go for it!

Thanks so much for all the replies. I see many different views here. This is her first and there will be 15 of us to help her.

I guess I will tell her to ask her Dr and leave it up to her.

It's great to know others have done it and still had great trips.

I personally think that taking a baby that little is just stupid... (sorry to offend anyone) but babies that young do not have the ability to regulate body temp and if you talk to any doctor they will tell you that if a baby is under 6mos they should not be in the heat for more then an hour at a time without a cooling time. Babies that young and little are also not suppose to wear sunscreen because there body cannot regulate heat and you are putting chemicals on 3/4 of their body so going in the summer is not only dangerous because of the heat but the sun can cause issues since they have fair and delicate skin.
What about babies born in warm climates without air conditioning??? How is walking around WDW any different?
Too funny.

As far as germs go- I don't plan on letting strangers touch my child and I plan on keeping her in a carrier right against my chest to avoid just that. My child's pediatrician said that a trip at 8 weeks is more than fine. Especially for BFeeding babies who get antibodies from Mom.

I am not nervous about hitting the world this October with an 8 week old. I can't wait to share the magic with her! We'll just take it slow and easy and do what feels right.

I would never take a 6 week old baby to DW. This last weekend, we were at the beach and there was a family that had a probably 4 week old baby out at the beach! That is crazy! I read all the comments of people saying...oh, as long as you have a lot of help...stay in the AC...blah, blah, blah. That's not my concern! At 6 weeks of age, a baby has not even had their first round of immunizations! People from ALL over the world come to Disney. Would you really want to expose a 6 week old infant to that? I personally wouldn't want to take the risk. I'm not saying you should live in a bubble...but a 6 week old at Disney IS NOT A VACATION for anyone in the group! I can't believe a pediatrician would even tell a mother its okay to travel at 2 weeks of age! NONE of the peds I know would tell a mom that! Eight weeks...maybe.. because they've had their first set of shots...but not 6 weeks and surely not at 2 weeks!

I am not a big fan of taking kids that young out where they will be exposed to who knows what while they are trying to develop their fragile immune systems. Perhaps your niece's pediatrician could shed some light on whether or not this is a good idea for the baby.

I agree to talk with doctor but I would not do it.

I wouldn't do it either. While it is do-able with a good stroller and a comfortable sling, I just think mom and baby would be more comfortable at home. I agree too about the germ thing. All the talk about swine flu kicking back up and stuff like that, I wouldn't chance it, not for a vacation. Disney isn't going anywhere, she has a lot of time to go to WDW. stay home and rest and enjoy that baby. :)
