Has anyone ever taken a 6 week old baby to Disney.

We have a big family trip planned for next May nut my niece just announced she is due on April 3rd.

We went in 2006 when my youngest was 6 wks old.

I wore her in a front carrier the whole time and still went on a lot of the attractions.

We didn't have any problems at all.

We had 3 other dk's aged 2, 3.5 and 4.5 at that time and we took it slow, but we still had a wonderful trip.

My middle child was almost 5 weeks when he went on his 1st trip and I had an emergency c-section! We had a great time. We have pics of several characters holding him, and from what I understand they don't do that often.

I also took a chest carrier (for lines and rides), but I also took my stroller that laid flat so that he could sleep comfortably in the heat - it was to hot for me to carry him on my chest the entire day. I also was breastfeeding at the time. I am not one to feed in public, but I had great luck with taking him into a restroom or secluded bench behind somewhere to feed him.

We had a great time, I would encourage the new mom to go, she and the baby will get lots of attention.

Oh, just make sure she and the baby stay hydrated!! VERY IMPORTANT!

Haven't done it yet! :lmao:

I am due 10/01 and we are going 12/01...so the baby will either be about 6 or 8 weeks old. I have 2 different types of slings as well as a stroller. Figure he will just eat and sleep! *hopefully*

The cooler the weather the better. December will be nice, but for going in May I would pray for cool weather. Also, I always went way after the due date. So, if the baby comes on time and the delivery is easy and the weather is cool I would do it. If not, I would most likely spend a lot of time in the room!

You all must be tougher stuff than I ever was. When I had a 6 week old baby, I was still getting NO SLEEP and was doing good to get a shower and get the bed made before 3 p.m.! I can't even imagine taking on WDW with a newborn! Wow!:rotfl2:

I brought our then 7 week old on a trip to Cedar Point (not exactly Disney...) my only rec would be to try not to overschedule your neice. As PP said, one night she might get a great (ok maybe great is too strong- some sleep) the next night both her and her Dh might be up all night.

We left the park a few times so I could go back to nap with baby. Other times baby napped in the stroller. And make sure she brings her own stroller that is padded and fully reclines to make napping on the go easier.

6 weeks before we were to leave for WDW for our first DISboard planned (organized) to the hilt vacation we found out we were selected for a newborn for adoption! Needless to say, my well thought out plans did not include a newborn--who was born at 4#15oz no less--to go. Lucky for us, my parents decided to go too and they helped tremendously. They were totally fine with taking it slow and easy. We went July 2000...hot, hot, hot but we put a fan in the stroller, always adjusted the cover part to avoid the sun and laid her on white blankets only and she was never worse for wear (like us!). I used a Snugli part of the time which was really hot but worth the bonding time for sure. It was a GREAT trip!

Have a great time

We did it with our three children in September of 2007, our baby was just 7 weeks, we had a GREAT trip! Took full advantage of the a/c, baby centers, carried him in the baby bjorn, he napped in his covered stroller and he was portable in his infant carrier. It was a great trip with our older boys and the baby was along for the ride. It's pretty easy, actually!! Good luck!!:goodvibes

I am not a big fan of taking kids that young out where they will be exposed to who knows what while they are trying to develop their fragile immune systems. Perhaps your niece's pediatrician could shed some light on whether or not this is a good idea for the baby.

Tell her to keep in mind that they may not get much sleep. Being all in one room in a hotel is tough when you have an infant, especially if you have other kids. You didn't say if she does have other kids, but if she does the baby will probably wake them up at night.

My other thought would be around transportation - how is she getting there? I wouldn't take a baby that young on an airplane, due to viruses. I would also recommend talking to her pediatrician.

Good luck!

I personally think that taking a baby that little is just stupid... (sorry to offend anyone) but babies that young do not have the ability to regulate body temp and if you talk to any doctor they will tell you that if a baby is under 6mos they should not be in the heat for more then an hour at a time without a cooling time. Babies that young and little are also not suppose to wear sunscreen because there body cannot regulate heat and you are putting chemicals on 3/4 of their body so going in the summer is not only dangerous because of the heat but the sun can cause issues since they have fair and delicate skin.

While I know you niece planned to go and everyone else might be going. You should tell her there will be other trips and that she will have opportunities when her child is older to go to Disney and enjoy it.

I have been lurking on the board for a while and have read many threads about taking small children... toddlers on are thing but a newborn is different.

Again sorry if I offend anyone but that is just my opinion. Almost everyone on this board will tell you Go for it... So I will be Debbie Down and say Stay Home or move the trip date back

We took our 4 week old (yes you read right) last February and we just tried to make sure that we took breaks inside if it was getting warm and we were patient and took breaks to feed him. It gave the older kids a chance to have one on one time with Mom or Dad and it worked fine. Wasn't easy but it also was definitely doable. We had our concerns as well, but you have to go on living life, just be sensible about it.

Same here, lol. My biggest worries at 6 weeks were getting four straight hours of sleep, and a terrible case of Mastitis. :scared1:

I took my youngest DD when she was 6 weeks old the last week of August. My oldest was only 4, so we took our time and spent a lot of time in the ac. I carried her in a sling most of the time. My parents were with us on that trip and we all took turns sitting in the ac with her in the stroller. She is now 21, healthy and in the WDW college program.

I traveled quite a bit when my DDs were infants. Made sure they were healthy and up to date with shots. Made sure their hands were clean at all times except for the time my oldest DD was 4 months old and swiped her hand under a NY subway bench and stuck in her mouth :scared1: She's now 25, healthy, and will be in WDW the last week in August 7 months pregnant.

If your niece realizes that she will have to take it slow and easy with her baby, hopefully the rest of the family will pitch in and help out whenever they can.

Have fun planning.

I can't imagine taking a 6 week old to WDW, but many others seem to have done it and enjoyed themselves. I sure wouldn't want to have a room next to a baby that will be waking up crying multiple times during the night!!

Is this her 1st baby? If so I'd say no ~ your 1st baby changes your life and while it's all for the best it's also hard those first couple months. I could've done Disney when my 2nd was 6 weeks old (much easier *I was a more relaxed mom the 2nd time around) but that doesn't mean I would have.

That's a very good point! Of my three, the 1st was by far the hardest adjustment.

I have a 6-week-old right now, and I can hardly make it to the mall or the grocery store! I have actually thought about how hard it would be to be at WDW right now. Your niece might be okay if there will be a lot of people to help out, but I still think it would be hard. I had an easy pregnancy and an easy, normal, natural birth, and I am still just getting my stamina back. I can't imagine trying to walk around WDW. Plus the baby has to eat very often which means lots of stopping for feedings and diaper changes. These things are easy at home or on short outings, but I don't feel up to any theme parks just yet.

Oh, and I have a pretty easy-going baby, too; she is just normal for a 6-week-old. If your niece's baby is colicky, it would be even harder.

Now maybe your niece would feel differently from me, but this is just the opinion of someone in the sleep-deprived thick of it!

We took our dd at 6 weeks. I consulted my pediatrician during my pregnancy before I booked the trip. He said anytime after 2 weeks was acceptable. I delivered her via scheduled c-sect. We toured the parks from open to close for 9 days.

She was the best behaved child at WDW. Her sister was very happy on her birthday trip.

The only negative memory I have of the trip were the nosy busybodies that could not help but make nasty comments about our fitness as parents because we dared take a child that young to WDW. We have however run into people like that on almost every family vacation we have ever taken. Some people believe children should not be seen or heard in public until they are old enough to pay taxes.
